Since when did ROTJ become less highly regarded than even Episodes II or III?

There is a glimmer of hope for the SW-only guys here, I hear a new comic is coming out that disregards everything after SW, including ESB.

Can't remember when or what it's called.

Sounds like a throwback to the good old days. ;)

Hopefully, without the list of "no-no's" Marvel labored under.

It really is a throwback.

This was originally part of my second reply to the George Lucas thread, but I decided it was too long-winded and off-topic and would fit better here:

I can't speak for anyone else (though I have a suspicion that many will agree with me) but I care because his stance on film preservation applies to all films but his; that he was actively suppressing and attempting to destroy the originals (covering up or removing hard work done on the originals by other people, et cetera), through neglect really peeved me and many others. The fact that Star Wars is such a huge piece of cultural and cinematic history made it all the more egregious.

And I know many other people care so much because the original versions of the films were a huge part of their childhood, and now they don't have access to that part of their childhood anymore.

I can't claim that, because I grew up watching the Special Editions, but when I finally found the Original Unaltered Trilogy through fan preservations, I realized how much better the films were before the changes. I went into my first fan preservation without the "taint" of anti-Lucas, anti-Special Edition, anti-Prequelism, thinking "Well how much different can it be? I like the CGI stuff from the Special Editions!" and I came out a changed man. They're just better in their original format.

This is basically what I wanted to say, and when I came to the part where you said that you grew up with the Special Editions it was actually close to tears in my eyes, because this proves it's not about a sentimental bunch of old nerds who grew up with the originals. You see it as clear as we do. Thank you!

Wow, I don't think I've ever done that before.

I still have this nagging suspicion that the Prune Faces actually came form an attempt to depict the Emperor with a one piece mask.

If you look at some of the depictions of him in storyboards for ROTJ he looks less skeletal and old and more simian and alien.

Interesting, there's definitely a likeness between them. Where does this Prune Face show up in ROTJ? I only recall the action figures...

Interesting theory. And it seems pretty valid and reasonable. Never thought of that before!

The "Prune Faces" are visible in the background of a few shots of the Death Star briefing in Jedi, and one (with a cloak and hood on, so you don't actually see the face) enters the the Tyderium with Han after he talks to Lando about the Falcon.

US Government may have to consider building death star if petition gets enough signatures

Hah.

I've signed quite a few petitions on that site; and it's really a cool site, but, in the end, once you get the signatures the usual response is "Thanks, but here's why we won't be doing this." or "Thanks, but here's what we're already doing that we're saying is similar to what you want but really isn't" or "Thanks, but here's what's already on the books that's kinda like that."

Irregardless, I signed.

I love the old man myself.

I just wish he'd have done right by everyone. That's my only gripe with him.

No, I agree.  Many disappointments.  But why do we care so much?

The flip side of anger is love;)

As I have said before, I think we all love George: there's great respect for him, and we are nearly all grateful to him for the work he's done and the impact his films have had on our lives, even on a board like this.

But we're all also very frustrated over his double-standards, his attempts to alter and destroy pieces of history, and his denial to us of a hugely influential piece of our childhoods.

But I think that, in the end, we would all very gladly personally hand him our money and thanks for the OOT.

This who-is-more-insightful competition lead to the present state, when it is cool thing to bash ROTJ and blur it together with the prequels. Once again, the loss of credibility for me here is that ROTJ haven't been heavily critisized by the fans for a very-very long time.

I disagree. I think a lot of people never liked it.

What I don't like is the "oh you think you're so hip and trendy bashing on the prequels and Jedi" mentality (some might even call it a trend) some people seem to have. As a kid, I loved Jedi and the prequels, but as I grew up and watched them again and again, flaws became more apparent and eventually I realized they were not as good films when compared to the first two and I just didn't like them nearly as much. I certainly hadn't come to that conclusion because of other people, considering I never had much exposure to Star Wars analysis growing up.

That doesn't mean people can't think that the prequels and Jedi are the best films in the series (even though that's totally wrong). Everyone likes different things.

There are two great PT Audio Plays available. "Labyrinth of Evil" and "Dark Lord". They contain all the original voices from the movies, as well as music and soundeffects. The only problem for 90% of the guys (and girls) here: it's in German. ;-)

The guy who did these is currently working on the "Thrawn-Trilogy". Three of four parts from "Heir To The Empire" are already available.

So wait, did they get Hayden et al. to do the voices in German?

Actually, I found some more info. Okay, that makes sense. Ignore the previous.

What I meant was; did anyone in the fan community do a radio drama based on a rewrite of the prequels? Kind of specific, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is in the works somewhere.

My idea was to have a very young Anakin Skywalker be frozen in a hibernation pod on a pre-hyperspace ship for many decades, and to be revived by the Lars family and raised by them after the ship crashes on a distant world. His advanced form of hibernation sickness renders him blind, and he struggles to survive in the harsh Outer Rim Territories. Our story picks up when their planet is attacked by another planet in the same solar system, and a teenage Anakin must defy all odds to become a pilot despite his blindness, which lasts through the prequels.

How did he get frozen and why? Now we need prequels for our prequels and we're back where we started!

Yo dawg, I heard you liked prequels. So I put a prequel in your prequel so you can backstory while you backstory.
