The saddest thing ever - WOW Radio!!
Time

This whole thread is very interesting.

TB likely makes a pretty good living on YouTube these days, so I certainly can't say anything too bad about the guy: he's obviously found his niche and is monetizing it, which I would call rather brilliant; I wish I could form that kinda following and make a bunch of money for nothing, just sitting around playing games and making videos about them sounds alright to me.

I actually had known about TB for quite awhile before I started posting here, and well after he'd become something of a celebrity in the gaming world and always found him fairly entertaining (in small doses because he is, indeed, a very opinionated and, ah, outspoken fellow with a grating voice and he seems to be a person that people love or hate) his "WTF Is..." series is an interesting and honest first look at a games (and his conclusions are usually pretty close to the mark), and he makes generally amusing comments.

I'll catch him as a guest on the Yogscast every once in awhile, I watched him commentate on MLG's SC2 stream last season (I'd never really "gotten" E-Sports and decided to check it out), and just today people were abuzz about his SimCity review. I'm glad I finally took the time to read the entire thread.

I think a big reason that the Nolan Batman films (which, in my opinion, are largely terrible BATMAN films--pretentious, dark, violent, and embarrassed by the source material) have been so successful is because of the public's name-brand recognition of Batman, and because self-loathing fans were all too eager to forget the campy Schumacher films, and wanted to see Batman be "dark" and "cool" so that they would look "cool" for liking it. "See? See? We're cool! We don't like those stupid, campy comics! We like this dark and violent Batman! See how cool we are?"

Same with TREK. "See? See how cool we are? We don't like that goofy, cheesy old TV show! TREK is finally cool now, because it's dark and fast and sexy and funny and big-budget!"

I genuinely hate this argument whenever anyone uses it. I can never roll my eyes hard enough.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

So for those of you who were interested in Aliens: Colonial Marines, but didn't want to shell out the cash for an admittedly crappy game, I offer this link to a Let's Play created by a couple friends and myself.

Clicky!

Basically we play so you don't have to, and we attempt to be somewhat humourous at the same time. Check it out if you're so inclined.

I'm also looking forward to the new Space Hulk, because it's done by an indie studio who cares about the original games and seems to know what they're doing, plus Space Hulk.

Also grabbed the Predators and AvP games on Android, and, though I've only played through part of Predators so far, it's awesome. It's the perfect little mindless game that scratches the itch of wanting to play a game where you're the Predator and you just run around killing everything; it's brutal and visceral and just perfect in its simplicity. I love that kind of thing.

Moved into a new apartment with a really cool roommate. Get along really well, have a ton in common, seems like a cool situation. Last night we were watching some TV and he stretched the image out of ratio to fit the screen... Ugh... That is going to be annoying.

Literally worse than Hitler. I can't believe people would actually do such a thing. Like why would that ever occur to someone?
