Barnes and Nobel are selling these beauties. I picked one up the other day and I love it; looks great, feels sturdy, has great RMQ concept art on the inside of the front and back cover, the page edges are silver, it smells like leather, has a built-in ribbon bookmark, and for only 25 bucks, it's basically a steal... the introduction is a little prequel-y but other than that it's unadulterated OT goodness.

The best part is that they're giving a lot of books this treatment, so basically whatever big time literature (classics, sci-fi, historical documents, religious texts) you're into, they have a fancy version like this of it. Just check out their gorgeous Jurassic Park/Lost World cover with a bit of a classic feel to it:

Not when it comes to the Sith, you can't.

I was always under the impression that Vader was labeled a Sith Lord in the script/officially-licensed products, and the fact that the Emperor could use Force powers implied that he was as well. I never saw any problem with the Sith being expanded upon for that reason, to be honest.

Bubba Feets: Terrible at Everything

Interested to hear Tyr's reaction to this. =P

I've actually given this a lot of thought (obviously).

It's totally true that if you look at Boba's accomplishments onscreen in Empire, it's not an impressive record; he's only onscreen for a short time, doesn't have any huge explosive battles where he does cool stuff, his name is never mentioned, he only has a couple lines, he doesn't really do all that much, and if you watch that prototype video of his armour, you see he doesn't even get to use half the functions they built into it. Honestly, if he didn't look so damn cool, people would probably not like him so much, and that coolness is his complete appeal.

The thing about Boba that makes him so cool is his subtlety, and for that we have to give Jeremy Bulloch his due. He took a character that otherwise did really nothing exciting (onscreen) and turned him into a badass (beyond already looking like one), just by playing it cool and confident. And he did do cool stuff in the film; just subtle stuff: somehow knowing the Falcon was disabled and would hide in the garbage to escape, tracking it to Bespin undetected, talking back to Vader/staring him down like it was nothing, almost blasting Chewie, knowing Luke was there and almost blowing his head off, and capturing one of the most-popular main characters of the series.

I'm not going to claim Jeremy Bulloch as the greatest actor ever just because I'm a Fett fan, but I really do think his acting was the complete difference between a forgettable secondary, background character, and a fan-favourite, cult-following-level primary character with a ton of EU about him. Bulloch managed to make the character stand out by just taking a cool-looking character and complimenting that with cool-looking acting; just making very slow, very concise, very deliberate, very confident movements turned Boba from scenery into a real character that people wanted to learn more about.

Also not to be ignored is Jason Wingreen's vocal performance; Boba not only looked badass and moved like a badass, but sounded like one as well. Just the perfect gruff, hardened, gravelly voice you'd expect a guy like Fett to have.

I utterly hate that Lucas took the route he did with the whole origin story crap. Bah. Now Wingreen's great voicework has been totally replaced and I have to deal with a reminder of the prequels whenever I play a game with Boba Fett in it now, which I fupping hate. That's part of why I'm not super torn-up about 1313's likely cancellation: I was NOT looking forward to hearing Temuera Morrison (or worse, Daniel Logan) as Boba and wishing it had been a Wingreen sound-alike instead.

It's one of the worst changes of the films, honestly, regardless of your standpoint on Boba. In most games/shows/whatever, you can ignore prequel/SE nonsense, but Boba's new voice is there to stay, sadly, and will just follow us wherever we go.

I have to say that i'm gutted about the Clone Wars. That show felt more like the Star Wars i love than the prequels ever did

Ditto. Season V alone was seriously better Star Wars than we've had in years in my view, and that one season did a better job explaining The Clone Wars and the backstory of the OT than the prequels did in three feature films.

Add that to the other four series and the show totally blew the prequels away. Some of the story arcs and the characters created for the show were just a million times better than the most of the Star Wars content we've had since 1977. The fact that they made Anakin a likable and cool character, and even made it so I didn't instantly fly into a murderous rage whenever Jar-Jar came on the screen is a testament to the quality of the show. And there's so much unresolved stuff for the characters to show. Ugh.

I was totally crushed to hear that they wouldn't carry it on, but I wasn't too shocked considering the merger and Disney's putting basically every other project on hold to focus on the new films... not a good start for Kennedy so far, because I loved The Clone Wars and was really looking forward to 1313, and I know a lot of other people who did, too.

Annoying, but what can you do?

New Star Wars comic
Time

Just finished issue two of this.

Really enjoying it so far. Just a couple prequel references tossed in, but they didn't seem shoehorned or forced to me.

Was really excited to see Boba on the cover, but a bit disappointed he wasn't around much. Oh well. I'm excited for more Boba, though, because it'll be less lame clone and more mysterious awesome.

Brian Wood is doing a fantastic job writing these; he's got the '77 feel of the characters down pretty well, Han is snarky, Luke is very green but prodigal, Leia is taking care of business.

It's also good to see Vader down more on the level with other officers, as well. It's nice to see him against the ropes, honestly.

The whole thing has a very untainted OT vibe to it; respectful of the film, but exploring new territory, and certainly not beholden to other EU or the PT. I'm also loving the art and colours; the art is fitting and feels right (this could easily have been ruined by crummy art), it's also not exaggerated and superhero-y, and the colours feel very authentic, the palate feels very OT to me.

Definitely enjoying this, definitely want more of it.
