Lone Survivor

Maybe in large part due to my namesake, I'm a sucker for patriotism; as such, I found this movie fantastic. It was, and was not, your typical "America, Fuck Yeah" movie, and did endeavour to show some of the deeper complexities of the region, specifically the Afghani/Taliban relations. I was glad to see that not all "brown people" were painted with the terrorism brush, and I was really rooting for the villagers and Gulab. The dedication to the Afghanis at the end was very nice.

But at the same time, the Americans died (mostly) poetic and heroic deaths while looking like heroes. But what would you want besides that? It was nice to see them get banged up pretty good along the way, so they weren't just shining, beautiful, invincible men up until the point they were required to die. The final battle was a bit gratuitous in terms of hand-to-hand combat and satisfying deaths, but, again, you get what you pay for. I was no less pleased. It always breaks you heart to be reminded that these were real people at the end of these films, but it is necessary as well.

I never quite understand why people think these types of films romanticize war, because I always leave films like this with a renewed interest in moving towards a utopia where war is an embarrassing part of our past, rather than a constant in our present day. I also leave with renewed respect for the men and women in the military.

As a military/gun nerd, I enjoyed the overall authenticity in those respects of the film. It was nice to see accurate scope crosshairs, gunplay, and whatnot throughout.

All-in-all, I would call this as decent a dramatization of a real-life wartime situation involving Americans as you could ask for.

8/10 Patriotism Boners

Malwarebytes Anti Malware (MBAM). Full scan.

Uninstall any other antivirus you have and install Microsoft Security Essentials; it's 100% free, it's the best you can get.

If you're running Firefox, install Adblock Plus and NoScript. I suggest you run Firefox if you're not.

I don't mean to sound patronizing, and I have no idea what this problem is related to specifically... but to be safe stay off porn and religious sites, haha. Just make sure you're not clicking on anything shady, especially weird links sent to you through the email.

I heard that there are several upset people out there because Whitta dislikes the SE and PT and how can we expect him to bring respect to Star Wars if he doesn't respect Lucas.

I laughed and laughed.

Yeah, I've been reading TFN forums & there's stupid shit like this all over the place.

Listened to an episode of Rebel Force Radio or something where they spent the entire second half of the episode just blasting Whitta, saying he wouldn't be talking shit would and kiss Lucas' feet if they were in the same room, and why would they hire someone who doesn't respect Star Wars or Lucas.

They acted like he was going to come in and direct a purposefully shit movie to covertly destroy the franchise, and that he was deleting his old Lucas-bashing tweets to cover his ass, like Lucasfilm hired him without knowing he said all that.

Please. Just get off your high-horses Prequel lovers. They knew he said this stuff and they probably hired him because of it. It's like they just don't understand that the Prequels and the Special Editions just suck and the majority of people did not like them and now Lucasfilm is trying to right some of the wrongs that happened in the past decade.

Narry a mention of the PT in this latest vid from SW's YouTube channel about Luke picture book...

...so great that the OT is the focus again. However there is one moment where the guy in charge of the book done f**ked it up, see if you can spot it ;-)

We live in a beautiful time. If you close your eyes and think really hard, you can almost forget about the prequels entirely.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Yeah, one of those is probably a 2D background ship. There were similar ones made for the rebel hangar scene in the original film. :)

Yeah, that was my reasoning.

Looking at it, though, there are a lot of differences between the old T-65s and what this may be. Though it's obviously not complete, it looks far different enough to be a new model which could account totally for it looking "weird" to me.

The two different angles of the X-wing make me wonder if it's more of a 2D background prop to be seen from on angle only. The first picture looks normal, but the second... something is off, it looks smushed.

Just me? Anyone? No? Mom?

Oh. I guess the X-wing could be updated. Never occurred to me. Makes more sense than my theory.

Looking at the engines, they're definitely set up differently. Bingo's comparison to McQuarrie's design is apt.
