Never mind the fact that according to the original ROTJ script, Mon Mothma was never mentioned as being a member of the Imperial Senate.

Mon Mothma’s character hadn’t even been created during the production of ANH, so I hardly see how that has any impact on a prequel movie made in 2016.

It’s irrelevant what year the script is written. I’m simply saying that in order for the 2016 script to be consistent with the 1983 script, you have to be able to explain why Mon Mothma appears to be in a leadership role in events prior to the 1977 script.

(And as a somewhat relevant side-note, she was part of the Republic Senate in the PT and Clone Wars series which is part of the DisneyEU, so it’s not improbable that her role as an Imperial Senate member will be re-canonized)

That’s a good point. I must concede that I very often forget that the PT is canon and, frankly, I had forgotten her character appears in one of those prequel films.

So you say she was a senator in the PT? If that’s the case, then her timeline must be something like this:

  1. Is in the Republic Senate.

  2. Gets involved with the Rebellion. Presumably she becomes a leader of the Rebellion of some sort.

  3. Commissions spies to intercept the Death Star plans.

  4. Disappears roughly at that point from the events of ANH and TESB.

  5. Returns somehow in ROTJ as the leader of the Rebellion.

Keep in mind that there are many factions of the Rebel Alliance, so I don’t see why she has to be everywhere Luke, Leia, Han, etc. is. Also she’s more of a political leader than a military tactician, so I fail to see why she had to be present on f.ex. Hoth. (In the old EU she was making herself useful elsewhere during these events.) Kep in midn that we only see the Rebels gathered four times in the OT. Why she wasn’t present during the DS attack can have many reasonable explanations, and now we see that she was present on Yavin in RO, her not being on Hoth is fairly easy to explain, she could have been present when the Rebel fleet gathered att he end of ESB even though we never saw her, and finally she was present when the Rebellion gathered to make a calculated attack on the DS II in ROTJ. (We also have no idea where she was during the 4-5 years between ANH and ESB in the new EU. I’m sure they’ll make some comics and novels to fill that gap soon.) Considering how the character was introduced in ROTJ, I think all of this makes a pretty decent Disney canon timeline.

This is it exactly, as talked about here.

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I just finished the finale and holy crap.

If you’re not watching this show for whatever reason, you need to be because that episode makes whatever stupid lightspeed-jumping, gas-eating space whale episodes worth it. This is some good Star Wars right here. Wow.

The saber copters were dumb as hell but I don’t think we’ll see those for awhile now, especially after the malfunction.

Also, I’d like to call the upcoming “What could you hate enough to destroy me?” moment.

I think the main issue with the Ghostbusters thing is that even if it had the original cast, it would still be awful. It doesn’t feel genuine. It’s not being made because they want to make a good Ghostbusters movie, it’s being made to cash in on Ghostbusters nostalgia and, as much as I wouldn’t mind an all-female cast (that was done well), I feel like it’s cashing in on the popularity of doing so.

Maybe I’m wrong and they’re all strong and well-written characters, but if Leslie Jones’ horribly transparent racial stereotype is any indicator, they won’t be.

But Anakin has never killed a family member. He never killed Padme (well directly) and he wasn’t able to kill Luke. Kylo through great strife was still able to kill Han.

Also a big difference between the two is that Kylo Ren is sick in the head whereas Anakin was a pompous ass with anger issues. Kylo Ren talks to the brunt helmet of his long dead grandfather and he speaks about himself in 3rd person. And do we even have to go into his violent outbursts? This man needs help and that can be a deciding factor as to whether he stays in the darkness or not.

He believed he killed Padme, though. And we don’t yet know if he ever found out that the Emperor lied to him.

I’m still counting on Kylo being turned. He’s definitely still going to feel the lure of the light side.

I mean, Anakin killed (or thought he killed) basically everything he loved and had ever known, and yet he still came back.

I think it’s far too early to call Kylo a lost cause. I think he’ll evolve, but I feel like it’ll be more towards the light. Maybe not in this next film since they’ve been saying it’s going to be in the vain of Empire, but eventually.

Eh, I feel like we’re going to see a lot more development from him. In the book they mention him killing Han as a moment that weakens him, and I’m sure we’re going to see him go through a lot of changes.

I think that, like Vader, he thinks he’s lost, but there are people who know there is still good in him. The interesting bit is when Snoke talks about how he could be seduced by the light side, which is an interesting reversal from what we’ve traditionally seen from the series.

He wants to be the badass in black armour like his grandpappy, but I don’t think he’s got it in him. I think he’s just a scared, confused little boy like Rey said.

The hammy acting that brought the worst out of even Ewan.

The continuation of Anakin being made a totally crap character with no believable or reasonable actions towards his generally relatable goals.

The Jedi being pretty oblivious. Palpatine being too obvious.

The poor direction.

The continued over-reliance on CGI. “Oh but they used more models than ever bef-” That’s great, but they still used way too much CGI overtop of everything.

The beginning of the undermining of Vader as a character with his first “noooooooo”

The continued horrible love-dialog between Anakin and Padme.

The battledroids getting stupid voices.

Ugh, I’m sure there are more, but I haven’t seen it in a long time now.

It was a pretty cool movie.

I think the biggest annoyance was how everyone could see Starkiller Base blow up Hosnian Prime (I didn’t think it was Coruscant, but they could have made it more clear) from ostensibly lightyears away. I can forgive sound in space and whatnot, but damn that one was bad.

Beyond that, the plot was definitely something we’d seen before several times at this point, but that was made less annoying by having new characters to invest ourselves in and enjoy. It was definitely a “safe choice” they made so they could reintroduce us to the universe. I feel like a lot of complaints about this thing or that thing not being explicitly explained will be absolved in the coming films.

I actually really liked Kylo Ren. I think people just wanted a Darth Vader copy (which you know people would have complained about) and what they got was an unstable wannabe, which is the point of the character.
