Aalenfae's PREQUEL TRILOGY (Heavily delayed - computer exploded)
Time

The beginning of that duel clip is really very good.  Replacing the music is the key.  There's a wonderful moment at the 44 seconds when you cut to the long shot and it synchs up with the arrival on a minor in the music...REALLY good instinct there.  It's really striking- I wish I had come up with it first...

This is an idea I got from Trooperman, I think.

Feel free to cop anything you like.  I consider these things open-source projects- I took a lot of other peoples' ideas for my edit and anyone is welcome to do the same.

This edit is looking great.  Keep up the good work!

P.S. I really like the idea of putting lounge music in that nightclub.  I used a different piece but I really like this one- it's lower key and and sounds "otherworldly".  It definitely gives it more atmosphere.

Yeah, I liked this guys take a lot more.

One of the things that sold me right off the bat was his choice of scenes.  In his original demo, he did the infamous fireplace scene.  If he can take dialogue that bad and make it sound that convincing, you know the guy is good and that the other scenes will be even easier for him.

The Hayden Christiansen-less alternate audio mixes: Episodes 2 and 3 (Released)
Time

I'm glad you guys like the voice.  I was thrilled when I heard it because the timbre of his voice matches the image onscreen much better than the rough dub.  Also, he is clearly a great actor and puts himself into the part.  I'm looking forward to working with Henry very much.

So the tracks will be for the DVDs? I am asking this because the Bluray cut of AOTC is different from the DVD cut.

Say it isn't so...

EDIT: It looks like the Blu-Ray cut has only a couple of alterations- it shouldn't be too hard to edit the DVD audio in order to conform with the Blu-Ray cut. I know very little about muxing to Blu-Ray but I'm sure there are other people who could figure out the details...

Also, I understand that George Lucas has added Anakin's mothers' voice to the dream sequence like my cut and others before mine, which I think is hilarious.

How are you accomplishing this? Does it mean you'll be able to release audio tracks with all of Anakin's dialogue silenced, for other actors to give it a try?

It will involve going into the surround mixes and removing center channel containing Hayden plus other channels (as needed), replacing and synching the new voice, applying ambience to the new voice where necessary, and then adding the background sounds behind the new voice and smoothing the transitions in a seamless way.

I might do silenced audio tracks too, but the main focus is putting out the finished mixes and to have them synch perfectly with the official DVDs.

The Hayden Christiansen-less alternate audio mixes: Episodes 2 and 3 (Released)
Time

Hello everybody,

This release is planned for October and will consist of alternate audio tracks that can be synched with the official DVDs of Episode II and Episode III.

The only difference will be that Anakin will be acted by somebody other than Hayden Christiansen. Also, after swapping out the dubs I may run both mixes through a tape machine to give it a warmer quality.

I have tested the actor and he is good.  We are doing this as a kind of proof of concept before tackling my edits, but also to try and do something fun and immediately beneficial to the community.

Like the mono mix of Star Wars, which featured a complete redub of Aunt Beru, this will hopefully be an enjoyable alternate way for people to experience the movie.

Last movie seen

Saw "Temple of Doom" tonight.  Unfortunately it was not 35mm film, but it looked pretty good for what it was.  The audience reaction was overwhelming (little kids to seniors, the age range was huge).  Spielberg really knows his audience, really knows how to push their buttons- John Williams too.  The entire movie is crafted to get reactions from people, something you don't really get watching it at home alone.

Seeing it with that many people in the audience was worth the price of admission alone.

I miss the 90s dearly. Best time to be a kid. Great cartoons and great games. Watching PC gaming (as well as console gaming) grow from the early to late 90s was incredible. However, the rise of 3D gaming on PC did also lead to an oversaturation of shooters and action games (something we still have today), and the relegation of adventure games to a niche following.

I digress.

I miss the 90s too.  Back when Saturday mornings were still a big deal before Looney Tunes was banned from television, jiggling the antennae to get the picture just right.  Then there was science court and winnie the pooh that morning.

And the games were great.  TIE fighter for PC was unbelievably high-tech for its time.

would it be worth getting him to read a few versions or drafts? just so you have choices later on? much of the dialogue on SOTDS was spot on.

That was my thought.  That's also why I want to get recordings of all of the original dialogue from him as backup in case some plot point doesn't work or etc.

For example, I wish I had gotten backups of Lama-Su saying "Jango" instead of just "Marcus" in case I had wanted to change it back...

We have Anakin for Episodes II and III.  His voice is perfect and he has access to good equipment.  That means I need to do script revisions for Episode III so we can do it in one shot. More later.

Also, I think we'll try doing dubs of Episode II and III as is (the George Lucas versions), so that people who don't want to watch all the changes can at least watch the movies as is with this guy playing Anakin.  I'll try and release it as an alternate audio track that can be synched with the official DVDs.

JAR JAR : That was impressive.

OBI WAN : What's this?

QUI-GON : A local, let's get out of here before more droids show up.

JAR JAR : Hello, STILL HERE! So you propose to leave me on my own, unarmed in the middle of a war, you are worse than the people in the city.

QUI-GON : A city?

JAR JAR: We don't all live in the woods, you know.

QUI-GON : Can you take us there?

JAR JAR : Sorry but no.

QUI-GON : No?

JAR JAR : They don't like outsiders they will probably do terrible things to you.

QUI-GON : Do you hear that?

JAR JAR : Do I look hard of hearing?

QUI-GON : That's the sound of a thousand terrible things heading this way.

OBI-WAN: If  the find us they will crush us, grind us into tiny pieces and blast us into oblivion.

JAR JAR: Well as you put it so melodramatically...

Great- keep this dialogue coming!  I particularly like this exchange:

QUI-GON : Do you hear that?

JAR JAR : Do I look hard of hearing?

That's the kind of witty dialogue we are looking for...

Well, the idea is that the Jedi are infiltrating the Sith system by confronting and killing Darth Maul.  The existence and whereabouts of the Sith had been very hushed prior to Episode I.  So, the idea is that killing Darth Maul was the main focus of the movie.

Actually, I just thought it sounded like a catchy title.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Episode 1: The Jedi Incursion

Episode 2: Shroud of the Dark Side

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

Episode 4: Star Wars

Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back

Episode 6: Return of the Jedi

What I like is that Episode 1 and Episode 6 both have the word “Jedi” in them, book-ending the series.

The only thing I want to commit to doing right now on Episode 1 is replacing all of Jar-Jar’s dialogue with different dialogue, a la the MagnoliaFan edit.

Starting at the beginning, this thread is for rewriting Jar-Jar’s dialogue.   I like when in “Balance of the Force” Jar-Jar takes credit for everything. The idea is that he is arrogant but also lovable and stupid- probably has an Aussie accent although that is not decided yet.

Episode II dialogue is very short:

-I KNOW THAT FACE…OBI-WAN!  HAVEN’T SEEN YOU IN AGES, [MATE]!  NICE BEARD YOU HAVE THERE.  YOUR HIGHNESS…LOOK WHAT THE WOMP RAT DRAGGED IN!

-DON’T WORRY YOUR PRETTY LITTLE HEAD ABOUT IT.  WITH A BRILLIANT POLITICAL MIND LIKE MINE IN CHARGE OF THINGS, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

-WE KNOW THE SEPARATISTS ARE PREPARING TO ATTACK THE REPUBLIC!  OUR OWN ARMY IS NOT ENOUGH TO COUNTER THIS ENORMOUS FORCE.  BUT IF WE BESTOW EMERGENCY POWERS ON OUR SUPREME CHANCELLOR PALPATINE, HE <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>WILL</span> FIND A WAY…TO DEFEND THE REPUBLIC.

^Hi MrBen...I was accepted at fanedit.org so we will chat soon.

In the meantime, I have not disappeared- just working elsewhere. I've located an actor to play Jar-Jar on another forum.  We're working on the specific voice but the first priority is that it will mesh somewhat with the character onscreen.  The idea is that he'll do not only Jar-Jar's three scenes from Ep. II, but that he'll do the dialogue for Episode I too.  I guess that means I'll need to start another thread for Episode I.

Even if all I did was swap out and replace Jar-Jar's lines and just released that as Episode I for SOTDS consistency, it would probably be an improvement.

Still working on an Anakin for Episode II and III.

Darn it- just found out it will be a digital projection.
