How bad can it get? (The changes to the films)
Time

When the first two prequels came out, people were even more disappointed than they would have been because of all the hype leading up into the releases. I thought I’d start a thread to balance things out so that everyone can really start dreading Revenge of the Sith; that way, we might be pleasantly surprised when it comes out instead of the other way around.

I have rumours from inside sources that:

1. Lucas changed Obi-Wan’s lightsaber blade to hot pink to avoid confusion during the final lightsaber battle.
2. The wookies will be replaced by Ewoks, bringing the most popular characters from the old trilogy into the new one
3. Yoda has a lightsaber duel with Watto instead of Sidious, as originally planned
4. Jar-Jar becomes Emperor, of course

Any more news?

I agree that he is a perfectionist: about the wrong stuff. He put incredible painstaking detail into his digital Yoda and his other computerized creations, forgetting the story in the process. In my opinion, he should have gone with a puppet for Yoda in AOTC (wouldn't that really tie the trilogies together?) and worked on the dialogue, casting, and acting more. Then we wouldn't have the ridiculous Yoda/Dooku saber scene.

I am a believer in the theory that the less resources a good director has, the better his movie is (up to a point). Because instead of relying on fancy special effects, huge sets, and everything else to drive the story, he has to find creative ways to make the dialogue and action good enough to carry the movie. You get interesting camera angles, humourous moments, and other things that they wouldn’t have bothered with (with more money) but that they need to keep the film interesting. This intensity and high acting standards are often lost when the director has other things to fall back on, and I think that’s what happened with the Prequel movies.

Forgive me if I offend anyone, but my view is:

Rappers go in the garbage.

Say it out loud, and you'll realize how bad a joke it is

But in general, us Star Wars fans have better-than-average taste in music

I don't care for disco either, but has anyone here heard the "Star Wars Cantina" parody song (based on Copacabana by Barry Manilo). I got a kick out of it.

George Lucas on 60 Minutes.

Ha ha! Yes, I have inside information about Episode III. Not all the production members are in on this, but Jar-Jar becomes the emperor. He's pulling the strings; he's manipulating everyone while seeming childish and ignorant of everything going on.

I have Photoshop. Heck, I thought it would fit right in with Lucas' Photoshopped Hayden at the end! Why not go the extra step and truly tie the trilogies together?

I'm trying not to watch George Lucas interviews. They make me feel sorry for him.

I agree. He always looks so pathetic trying to defend his crummy views and fend off all the harsh questions by "picky" fans; you do kind of feel sorry for him.

After all, he had poured enormous amounts of money into these films, thinking he was doing the right thing and restoring them and making them better. It's no wonder to me that he doesn't want to release the original versions right away, actually; he's still irritated that we didn't like his improved versions. That we like the "flawed" versions insults him as a filmmaker. Therefore, his reasoning is that he must not have made it perfect enough; he must not have made it tie in well enough with the new movies. "Aha!" Lucas thinks. "They didn't like my Jabba scene because the computer animation wasn't good enough. Wait until they see this!" What he might not realize is that our problems with the scene are not solely with the computer graphics, but with its redundancy.

Wild speculation!

The "EditDroid" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
To Metallaxis:

Thanks for the effort on your part. I can't believe someone would actually hack into your system after you posted something so useful. I wasn't able to get the torrent in time, and I would be interested, but I've almost downloaded the EditDroid .vob anyway. I also have DVD Shrink, so I should be able to extract the alternate angle.

Thanks!

I got the very best known source available from Moth3r. He captured it from a VHS tape of the 1985 UK broadcast (which contained the mono mix). The audio is in PAL, though, so you'd need to slow it down by 4%. You'd also need to patch the few gaps which are present due to commercial breaks.

Floating around in the newsgroups is his uncompressed capture of this mix.

Does anyone know if it is possible to find or download the complete London Symphony recording of "Jabba the Hutt" (concert arrangement) by John Williams? I'm kind of partial to this piece (I play the tuba) and it's one of the things they left out on the SE soundtrack. I know there is a complete version, but it's not the London Symphony. And I know it exists because I found part of it on the anthology soundtrack.

Could someone fill me in on the availability of this?

Idea -- Original Theatrical Prequels
Time
I would like to give the theatrical version of Phantom Menace a shot. I own the widescreen DVD and a pan-scan theatrical VHS for reference. When I began looking for changes, I found that a couple scenes in the theatrical release have been deleted in the DVD release. There is one little clip in the Podrace where Watto cheers for Sebulba before the race that was deleted. However, that's no problem because I found it in the extended cut of the opening on the Special Features disc. There is still one shot, though, that I'm missing in widescreen. It is the shot directly after Qui-Gon's line: "The situation has become more complicated." Then, we have a transition to an establishing shot of Palpatine's building on Coruscant, immediately followed by Palpatine's speech about greedy senators to Amidala. The establishing shot is missing from the DVD.

Does anyone know if a small torrent or straight download exists (or could be created) containing the establishing shot and also the shot before and the shot after, so as to have the transition? It could be ripped from a theatrical widescreen VHS (OK) or the Japanese LD (better). Then I could have the film in its theatrical state for archive purposes.
