Yeah I’ve been enjoying my time with NMS as well.

I still prefer Steam’s infrastructure for modern games, but man do I love GOG for preserving and restoring classics that would otherwise be lost to time. I have a strict policy of only buying the GOG version of older titles as I know that that will always be the best version available out there in terms of performance on modern systems.

Non-spoiler threads become less and less useful as the release date gets closer and closer. No one was using this thread until Ben bumped it.

The TFA non-spoiler thread was open to discussion of trailers while the spoiler thread was filled with all the juicy supposed leaks. I don’t know why trailers are suddenly anathema for this film. Again, if someone is so paranoid about not finding out ANYTHING about a film they have no business in a thread like this.

I understand the desire to avoid spoilers, but prohibiting the discussion of trailer content seems excessive to me.

I agree wholeheartedly. I’m wary of spoiler threads because they can be havens for actual leaks. I’d like to discuss a film and the official promotional material released for it without risking getting legitimately spoiled.

If you’re so paranoid that you avoid trailers than you really have no business in a thread dedicated to the film anyway.

The Rebellion leadership would even end their briefings with “may the Force be with you.” So it would seem that it’s a belief that has a life outside of the Jedi Order alone.

I’ve always thought of that like people (religious or not) saying “God bless you”, “In God we trust”, swearing in on a bible, ect. Things that have carried over from a more religious age.

Hence the previous sentence that you left off. =P

All Things Star Trek

Sure, we experience time as a contiguous series of cascading events but perception and reality aren’t always the same thing. Spock’s incursion from the Prime Universe created a multidimensional reality shift. The rift in space/time created an entirely new reality in all directions, top to bottom, from the Big Bang to the end of everything. As such this reality was, is and always will be subtly different from the Prime Universe. I don’t believe for one second that Gene Roddenberry wouldn’t have loved the idea of an alternate reality (Mirror, Mirror anyone?). This means, and this is absolutely key, the Kelvin universe can evolve and change in ways that don’t necessarily have to follow the Prime Universe at any point in history, before or after the events of Star Trek ‘09, it can mutate and subvert

Also, from Star Trek Online, the official continuation of the Prime Universe. In reference to a new quest line that lets you travel to the Kelvin Universe:

The sheer destruction from the Hobus supernova has weakened the barrier between our reality and one strangely similar to our own, leaving a strange temporal anomaly in its wake. This anomaly serves as a gateway between our universe… and a quantum universe both similar and different to our own.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Jedha turned out to be the birth world of the Jedi Order (or at least the source of their name).

I think we have a winner.

I was kinda hoping there wouldn’t be a bunch of lame Force stuff in this. Sigh.

Gareth mentioned during the Rogue One panel that its only in there because Lucasfilm wanted to introduce it. So I figure it’s mostly used as a backdrop. Though I’m sure it’ll play some role in the characters of Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus.

I too would prefer a film completely devoid of the Force but there are too many out there with the very strict opinion that it isn’t Star Wars without it.

That aside though, I think it’s nice that they’re exploring the greater galaxy’s understanding of the Force. The original Star Wars hinted that it was viewed as a once popular religion. The Rebellion leadership would even end their briefings with “may the Force be with you.” So it would seem that it’s a belief that has a life outside of the Jedi Order alone.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009)

This long neglected franchise has been enjoying a bit of a resurgence of late and I caught a case of ghost fever. I’ve since rewatched the original two films, revisited the television show and have dived right into the very good IDW comic series and decided it was time to revisit this gem.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game is the long lost third film we never got. The entire cast returned to reprise their roles in a very fitting and fun story that continues where the films left off. Gameplay is very fun with a variety of new gadgets to bust the various spooks, specters and ghosts you encounter. Speaking of which, there is a very nice variety of different enemies on display here that keep things varied from encounter to encounter. The game also still holds up very well graphically for a title of its age. If you’re a fan of the Ghostbusters and video games this is definitely a title you don’t want to miss!

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)

I’ve had my eye on director, Taika Waititi, for a while now. His last two films, BOY and What We Do in the Shadows were quirky fun romps. His latest film, Wilderpeople continues that trend and is an absolute delight. This was undoubtedly one of the best films I’ve seen this year and one I’d definitely recommend. Taika continues to prove to be a great writer and director and I can’t wait to see what he does with Marvel’s Thor next year.
