The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

Personally I thought Hayden nailed the way Prowse used to move this time around. Felt very Vader-y, much more than Rogue One. Pair that up with the new voice and damn, it really is him.

Hate to tell you, but it’s BS about Hayden being Vader throughout Kenobi. There are three people in the suit on this show. Hayden only when unmasked, General acting scenes is Dmitrious Bistrevsky and for stunts and fight sequences it is Tom O’Connell

Dmitrious stated that he’s only Vader when they need full body shots to establish Vader’s height And O’Connell does the fights but that it’s all Hayden for any medium and close up shots for his performance.

Why was Luke so impressed when he saw Mos Eisley for the first time? Anchorhead doesn't seem to be much smaller...
Time

The real question is why would he be impressed with Eisley when he’s undoubtedly seen Mos Espa:

Beggar’s Canyon the favorite haunt of young Luke and his friends in their T-16s, was for some reason, placed right next to Mos Espa. Which is on the other side of the map far from the Lars homestead and Mos Eisley. Undoubtedly they would have to fly past Espa whenever they wanted to race the canyon. And probably frequented it to refuel and celebrate after their races.

Anchorhead looks impressive at first glance in that still but if you take a close look it also captures the full length of it. It’s still a small town compared to Mos Eisley which houses at minimum 94 large docking bays. In the old EU Mos Eisley had 362 such docking bays and it’s probably the same in the new canon. That’s a much larger scale than any depiction of Anchorhead could support.

<strong>Tales of the Jedi</strong> (animated series) - General Discussion Thread * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *
Time

Yeah I really hope we get another revival of the Clone Wars someday. There are still so many plot threads left hanging like Maul’s escape from Sidious and closure for Ventress and Boba.

Pie in the sky, I think it would be neat to see the earliest days of the war just after AOTC. Get a more fleshed out exploration of the areas Tartakovsky’s series touched on. Perhaps even finally a canon depiction of how Anakin got his scar.

(Also, this is a spoiler thread right? It’s gonna be annoying having to spoiler tag every message posted in here if not)

It hasn’t been officially declared as one but anyone coming into a thread about a show that’s now begun airing shouldn’t be surprised to see spoilers. So unless the thread author says otherwise I think untagged spoilers should be fine in this thread. Unless someone wants to make a dedicated spoiler discussion thread. Just remember to keep spoilers out of the rest of the forum.

Spoilers:

So Ben is persuaded to go and look for leia, knowing the inquisitors would be after him. So, what does he do? Does he wear the same outfit that he is wearing on Tatooine? No, he decides the best way to not stand out is to dress like a bloody jedi. Really?

Response:

He’s not dressed like a Jedi though. He’s not wearing his Jedi tunic and while yes he’s wearing a brown hooded robe we know that’s not unusual in Star Wars. Tons of people all across Mos Eisley in SW77 wear them, even the multi-eyed used landspeeder salesman. They’re an easy way to blend into a crowd and hide your face.

Spoilers:

The first part of EP 2 is nothing more than fluff. he wasn’t interested in the jedi before yet he is suddenly excited about another jedi being on this planet? Turns out out be a con man. We see this guy happily con a woman and her child out of money. but later he just helps obi-wan?

Response:

That first Jedi approached him not far from the Lars homestead. His entire mission is to keep Luke safe and to do that no one can know about him. That Jedi could have had the Inquisitors right on his tail which would have been an eminent threat to Luke. Now that he’s off planet and safely away from Luke getting the help of another Jedi to help find and rescue Leia would be a huge boon.

As for the fake Jedi. He still helps that woman escape he just did it under the guise of a Jedi. It’s theatrics, it’s easier for people to trust that a Jedi would help them than just some random man. And his final conversation with Obi-wan heavily suggests he’s a Rebel sympathizer and has sent Obi-Wan to meet a Rebel contact.

adywan said:

She tells him that anakin is still alive. But, wait a minute… How does she know that obi-wan thinks anakin is dead? That whole scene just seemed like it was rushed in there just so we could get the anakin reveal in the end, with the super wide head. Obi-Wan’s realisation that Anakin is still alive could have been handled so much better, but they screwed it, just for the Duff Duff moment ending ( UK peeps will probably get the eastenders reference here)

Response:

She’s employing the same tactics that Vader used on Luke in the Emperor’s throne room. Working him up and then reading his thoughts/emotions while his control is compromised.

The Galaxy is a Republic and Yet There's a Queen and a Princess
Time

My sense is that in Star Wars (1977) it was not planned for the Rebels to be explicitly fighting to restore democracy as we understand it. The articles of rebellion was written much later. All we knew was that there was a “Senate” which was disbanded.

The original novelization for Star Wars was released November 12th, 1976. And contained this prologue:

ANOTHER galaxy, another time.
The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that… it was the Republic.
Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew. But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, then appear those evil ones who have greed to match.
So it was with the Republic at its height. Like the greatest of trees, able to withstand any external attack, the Republic rotted from within though the danger was not visible from outside.
Aided and abetted by restless, power-hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic. He promised to reunite the disaffected among the people and to restore the remembered glory of the Republic.
Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace. Soon he was controlled by the very assistants and boot-lickers he had appointed to high office, and the cries of the people for justice did not reach his ears.
Having exterminated through treachery and deception the Jedi Knights, guardians of justice in the galaxy, the Imperial governors and bureaucrats prepared to institute a reign of terror among the disheartened worlds of the galaxy. Many used the imperial forces and the name of the increasingly isolated Emperor to further their own personal ambitions.
But a small number of systems rebelled at these new outrages. Declaring themselves opposed to the New Order they began the great battle to restore the Old Republic.
From the beginning they were vastly outnumbered by the systems held in thrall by the Emperor. In those first dark days it seemed certain the bright flame of resistance would be extinguished before it could cast the light of new truth across a galaxy of oppressed and beaten peoples…

Might be the power of suggestion, but Hayden looks more like Sebastian Shaw nowadays.

He also sounds more like Matt Lanter. Unless we’re both imagining things…

I also noted how he seems to be speaking in a deeper tone recently. And others have made the comparison before.

It is interesting how he recently confirmed he watched all of the Clone Wars as prep.

All Things Star Trek

Given that this is their final season, let’s hope they pull off the sort of swan song they never got, something akin in feel to The Undiscovered Country.

They had their perfect send off in All Good Things. The movies that followed and the Picard series in particular highlight the truth in the saying you can never go home again.

I feel sorry for the fans who held off watching the new series but will now start doing so in anticipation for season 3. As the first season is one of the most cynical, cold and cruel things I’ve ever watched. I’d never been personally offended by a television series before this. And the second season isn’t much better. What they’ve done to Gene Roddenberry’s vision is unforgivable.

Screening of Original 70mm Print of STAR WARS at The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
Time

Just caught wind of this screening to be held on May 31st. Here are the details:

George Lucas’s homage to the pulpy tradition of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon changed the face of cinema and revolutionized visual effects. Combining classic techniques such as matte paintings and miniatures with the then-new technology of motion control photography, Star Wars imagined worlds, machines, and creatures that remain cinematic touchstones. A Best Picture nominee, the record-breaking hit won six Oscars including Visual Effects, as well as received a Special Achievement Award for Ben Burtt’s imaginative sound creations.

DIRECTOR: George Lucas. WRITTEN BY: George Lucas. CAST: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness. 1977. 119 min. USA. Color. Scope. English. 70mm. Print courtesy of Academy Film Archive. Special thanks to Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution and Lucasfilm.

Very surprising to see LFL allow a print screening. Is there anyone in the area that will try to attend?

Labyrinth of Evil: The Canon Edit - a novel fanedit (Released)
Time

tangelo1023 said:

Restating that the upcoming novel “Brotherhood” will present a canon version of the Cato Nemodia incident. However, since Labyrinth of Evil has now been edited to fit into canon, you can choose which Cato Nemodia incident Obi Wan is referring to in ROTS. There is no reason why Obi Wan and Anakin can’t visit Cato Nemodia twice during the Clone Wars. Depending on how much that novel conflicts with Labyrinth and if they can even coexist, I may make another update of LOE to reconcile the two.

Sounds like this won’t be too much of a concern. Here’s what the author of Brotherhood had to say on the subject:

Mike Chen said:

I did read Labyrinth of Evil a long time ago (I believe before ROTS released), but not recently so the details are fuzzy. As that book takes place right before ROTS and mine is right after AOTC, they can happily coexist until someone deems otherwise.

<strong>The Book Of Boba Fett</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *

And Mark is a voice actor. A very good one. I believe the voice is his, but they have adjusted it to sound younger. I found his appearance in the episode to be very well done.

They used a program called Respeecher, a neural network powered voice synthesizer. Here’s Matt Wood on the process:

Matt Wood said:

It’s a neural network you feed information into and it learns. So I had archival material from Mark in that era. We had clean recorded ADR from the original films, a book on tape he’d done from those eras, and then also Star Wars radio plays he had done back in that time. I was able to get clean recordings of that, feed it into the system, and they were able to slice it up and feed their neural network to learn this data.

Small details that took you <em><strong>FOREVER</strong></em> to notice in the <em>Star Wars</em> films
Time

I discovered this background droid that I’d never noticed before in ROTJ:

It’s so obscure there’s nothing in canon or the EU about it.

I don’t know why Wookieepedia decided it must be a giant mouse droid. It’s clearly an Imperial variant of a treadwell.
