They did not get in the way of Whedon on Avengers or Stanton on John Carter. But they probably should have on John Carter.

Only if it was to force a title change to something like John Carter and a Princess of Mars. It had a bad title but the film was great. Mostly the film suffered from a criminally poor publicity campaign.

If anything, the rebel victory at Endor could have been a victory for the Empire, as the Emperor would probably have had an heir to the throne, an even more powerful offspring of the Emperor just waiting for the right moment to take power.

On a more serious note, here's something to speculate about. On the official site they have a page dedicated to the future of Star Wars after the announcement. On that page they have a section titled "STAR WARS: THE SKYWALKER SAGA" and in it is simply this video with the description: "Slave. Hero. Villain. Savior. Revisit the stunning journey of Anakin Skywalker -- the central figure of the Star Wars saga -- in this special video presentation."

So what saga do you think the ST will be?

What's weird about that is that they went and licensed the book but then only used the title. Pretty much nothing from the book made it into the movie.

The whole POTC/MI connection is kind of sad. They were working on an animated MI movie back in the '90s but it was cancelled. Later on a couple of the writers from that project were hired to work on POTC and decided to use concepts from the now defunct film.

As for if we'll ever see more MI, that will again be up to the president of Lucasarts. The only Lucas property Disney is interested in is Star Wars.

Maybe 5-25-77 will finally come out now?

I hope so but I'm kind of worried. He was doing a cross country promotional tour of the film but ran into some bad luck. On September 18th he made a blog post about how the brakes in the vehicle he was using were shot and that he needed help. He hasn't blogged since. =/

Spaced Invaders (1990)

Hadn't seen this in years but remembered loving it when I was younger. It's still pretty fun and it's interesting seeing the animatronics not holding up as well as you had imagined they did when you were younger. I also love the concept of aliens mistaking a broadcast of Orsen Welles' War of the Worlds for a real invasion.

I think it's also important to note that this film's director is none other than Patrick Read Johnson. The man behind 5-25-77.

The forum is starting to become a little unstable. I'm glad your post of it went through though.

What I found interesting in that was:

"I have story treatments of 7,8 and 9. And a bunch of other movies."

Schwarzenegger - "The Legend of Conan"
Time

They were pushing it with T2. The whole point of the flesh Terminators was that they could fool the resistance and infiltrate their bases to eradicate them. How is that supposed to work if entire production lines are identical?

It would have worked better if they established that Skynet periodically abducts survivors and replaces them with cybernetic doubles. A sort of post-apocalyptic take on the Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

They could do the TRON CGI style youth treatment on Arnold, but then why not just make it an animated film with his voice?

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make… It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.

Frankenweenie (2012)

This was a lot better than I had thought it would be. Tim Burton hasn't exactly had the best track record as of late. But it's stop motion and I always want to support that art form. This turned out how I had wished Paranorman had. Lots of fun without getting too dark or occultic and having a real heart behind it. I really enjoyed it and I'm sad that it's doing so poorly. Another reason I was interested in the film was because I had seen Tim's original Frankenweenie short years ago and was curious how he'd expand and update it. I'll have to rewatch the original and compare them. If you're interested here's the original 1984 short.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Not Star Wars related but didn't know where it should go:

George Lucas' battle to bring WWII tale Red Tails to the screen is highlighted in this New York Daily News. Despite his lofty standing in the echelons of cinema, Lucas still had a battle on his hands bringing the story of the Tuskegee Airmen to the silver screen.

George Lucas created the “Star Wars” universe and led Indiana Jones to the Lost Ark, but even he couldn’t overcome Hollywood’s racial barriers.

The cinema legend revealed this week that he struggled to get “Red Tails,” his movie about the Tuskegee Airmen, distributed earlier this year.

“It’s a fantastic story nobody knows about,” Lucas told Confidenti@l after receiving the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network’s Triumph Award from his “Star Wars” star Samuel L. Jackson. “And the studios didn’t want to release it. It was hard getting it into theaters. Civil rights still has a long way to go.”

Lucas added, “I’m from the ‘60s — I grew up in the time of Martin Luther King. I thought we were living in a postracial world. We elected President Obama. But we have a long way to go.”

Lucas, who’ll speak at the N.Y. Historical Society Friday about his documentary “Double Victory,” which is also about the Tuskegee airman, is doing his part to get us to a better world. He’s using his high-tech know-how to give students and teachers learning tools at Edutopia.org. His educational foundation, and with the help of his beautiful life partner Mellody Hobson, supports efforts like the After School Matters program. Hobson, the president of Ariel Investments, told the Daily News, “We help 22,000 students a year, and studies have shown that our graduation rates are higher.” To get out of poverty, she added, “Education is the only way.”

It’s possible the only color Hollywood execs see is green. Lucas invested nearly $60 million of his own money into the film’s production and sunk another $35 million into distribution. The war film was considered a box office bomb. By May, “Red Tails” was long gone from theaters and available for home rental.

While collecting his award in front of an audience that also included Sean (Diddy) Combs, Lucas said, “The past is gone. Let’s make the world the way it has to be. Let’s take over the future.”

It just bothers me that he and that site try to reframe it as him battling racism when it was mostly likely just the studio execs detecting a bad investment. Which I'm glad the New York Daily News points out in the original article.

Gulliver's Travels (1939)

I had the VHS for this movie growing up but never got around to watching it. It was a fun little film but I wish I had seen it when I was younger to better appreciate it now. That said, I was surprised how unpolished a lot of the animation was throughout the film. Not the kind of quality I expect from Fleischer.

The World is Not Enough (1999)

Fairly bland and predictable.
