Yeah, poor Finn.
Yeah, poor Finn.
This is all starting to sound very convoluted. It’s a nice idea in theory but it doesn’t seem practical to pull off in a a simple straightforward way.
I’m surprised this is going up on their Youtube channel. I thought this was a D+ series.
Does anyone have any sound effects laying around that could depict bursting through the ice wall, maybe some shimmer or WOOoooosh of trailing off into hyperspace?
The problem isn’t that the TIE is still operational, it’s that there’s never been evidence that the old models had Hyperdrives and plenty of evidence that they did not. Besides, the shuttle is more specifically tied to Vader’s fate in ROTJ.
In fact it’s always been explicitly stated that they do not in the old canon and the new.
And the original film verifies this:
Ben Kenobi: It’s an Imperial fighter.
Luke Skywalker: It followed us!
Ben Kenobi: No, it’s a short-range fighter.
Han Solo: There aren’t any bases around here. Where did it come from?
Oh no!
I worked with him briefly on a project a while back. He was a very generous person. I can’t believe it.
I’m out of it for a little while and everyone gets delusions of grandeur!
I had no idea this edit had picked up so much steam! Looks like I have a lot to catch up on.
Looking forward to it but I have a suggestion. I highly recommend watching it in chronological order instead of the original airing order. George Lucas was heavily involved with the first half of the series and he had a habit of telling the stories out of order. So watching it in airing order can be really confusing because one week someone will have died and then the next they’re just fine. It’s really odd.
Also, the first season is really rough. They hadn’t figured out what the tone should be and leaned heavily in a childish direction. With the chronological order you get some decent later season episodes dispersed between the early ones and it really helps with the tone.
At one time they were also available to purchase digitally on amazon, but I don’t see them there anymore either.
Wow! They did take them down for digital purchase! That’s a shame, I kept procrastinating on it.
So did the Jerba inspire this critter Wicket is riding on?
Don’t know if it’s appeared in other Ewok stories…
In the Expanded Universe and now in the new canon, those are called Bordoks. They appeared regularly in the Ewoks animated series and have continued to pop up every now and then in comics and even video games. Personally I love that Terryl Whitlatch embraced them and showed what they’d actually look like with a more realistic depiction in her book The Wildlife of Star Wars:
Wow, I did not know the reasoning behind that cantina matte painting. Awesome.
I did know it was a Jerba but I’ve never seen the photos of it with Lucas and Carrie! Those are fantastic, I’ve always wanted to get a clear look at its face! Because…
Bonus small detail:
One of the trophies on Jabba’s wall is a Jerba!
Here’s a new one on me. I don’t recall ever hearing about this before until very recently. One of the Jawas isn’t wearing their mask and so you can see their actual eyes and mouth:
I believe it’s one of the 12 children they recruited to fill in the ranks. Possibly even Tiffany Kurtz.
If someone can capture a still from the new 4K transfer we can probably get a better look.
I actually think if one were to spend more time training the algorithm to learn Carrie’s facial mannerisms it could fix her mouth.
Here’s an example of it doing just that with Robert De Niro’s mouth.
My headcanon has always been that many systems joined the Rebellion after ANH, emboldened buy the destruction of the Death Star.
For a fantastic depiction of this I recommend checking out the newspaper comic strip storyline Revenge of the Jedi. It shows how Admiral Ackbar was recruited into the Alliance as well as Vader taking command of the Executor.
Her sendoff in the finale of TCW season 5 was already a good ending, but she came back in Rebels. Her defeat by Vader on Malachor made up for it by being an even more emotional ending for her. But then she even survives that, to even after ROTJ! Then Filoni doubles down to before all this and says that Ashoka actually talked to Anakin after she left the Jedi Order, they apparently made up, and she led the Siege of Mandalore against Maul.
While I agree she should have died on Malachor, her first exit at the end of season 5 was never supposed to be her end. They were cancelled after the Disney buyout and luckily for them season 5 ended where it did. The reunion with Anakin and the final battle on Mandalore were all part of the original plan, we’re extremely lucky Dave finally got to finish it.
I’d also like something like that to happen, but I’m cautiously optimistic if it can be pulled off convincingly. Disney won’t keep pouring unlimited money into this show, so the effects will get more “TV” as the show goes on. De-aging effects look great in high-budget movies, but I’m not so sure if it can work here.
They were able to deage Anthony Hopkins marvelously for Westworld on a TV budget.
Highly doubtful you’ll ever see lightsiders wielding red sabers in the new canon given the new canon’s explanation for how they’re created.
Some of the art generated by the project:
I’ve heard that many people cant get into TOS because it’s “Too corny.”
Hot take incoming…
It’s TGN, for me, that is so corny I can’t take it. It’s full of cheesy corn & soap opera antics. Over the last few years I’ve really come to love TOS. I used to think I hated Trek en mass, but once I finally gave it a real shot, TOS won me over very quickly.
I’ve occasionally dipped into TNG, thinking I must have missed something when it was actually on air. I love Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner & LeVar Burton. But, TNG is just not for me.
I haven’t tried the other shows.
Personally my two favorite shows are TOS and DS9. DS9 is a real breath of fresh air compared to TNG. TNG is very formal, everyone is rather stiff because they have to show proper respect to rank. On DS9 it’s much more casual and to me, a lot more fun.
Though that isn’t to say I don’t like TNG. I actually think you might like it if you give it a proper chance, just know the first two seasons are really bad. It’s not until the third season where TNG finally starts to find its footing.
Same for DS9, though that really only took a single season. Pretty much every Trek takes time to find itself. The only exception being TOS which was great after the pilot.
But yeah if you like TOS I’d recommend giving DS9 a shot, just know the first season is a bit rough.
I feel like we should be past the “Lucas’s treatments got dumped” discussion at this point. We know many of his ideas were the starting point for things in TFA (and TLJ to a lesser extent). The fact that they didn’t follow his treatments to the letter shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
It was certainly a surprise to George Lucas. Here’s Robert Iger himself recounting their first story meeting with George:
Early on, Kathy brought J.J. and Michael Arndt up to Northern California to meet with George at his ranch and talk about their ideas for the film. George immediately got upset as they began to describe the plot and it dawned on him that we weren’t using one of the stories he submitted during the negotiations.
The truth was, Kathy, J.J., Alan, and I had discussed the direction in which the saga should go, and we all agreed that it wasn’t what George had outlined. George knew we weren’t contractually bound to anything, but he thought that our buying the story treatments was a tacit promise that we’d follow them, and he was disappointed that his story was being discarded. I’d been so careful since our first conversation not to mislead him in any way, and I didn’t think I had now, but I could have handled it better. I should have prepared him for the meeting with J.J. and Michael and told him about our conversations, that we felt it was better to go in another direction. I could have talked through this with him and possibly avoided angering him by not surprising him. Now, in the first meeting with him about the future of Star Wars, George felt betrayed, and while this whole process would never have been easy for him, we’d gotten off to an unnecessarily rocky start.

Here are some highlights from the battle of Coruscant:
There are rumors that they’ll be updating the Falcon ride possibly some time later this year with a new mission based around The Mandalorian.
Here’s a higher res copy of the footage
Jedit: Looks like it was taken down.
Well…
Things have definitely taken an interesting turn. I’m still trying to process what I just watched.
It was good. It actually felt authentic which was a big worry of mine going in but so far so good.
I look forward to seeing where this is going.
Best surprise was that it looks like they invested in fixing up Data. He looks a lot better than he did in the trailer.
