Locke has been great the last few episodes, but his character seemed totally off from the end of season one through to the beginning of season three. These last few episodes have been fantastic though. It makes me wonder how many different writers compose this show. It seems like the characters are on and off half the time as if they're constantly being taken two directions. The main strength of this show was the character drama in my mind and they need to be consistent for that drama to continue.

Oh, and I also jokingly wonder why this show kills off, removes, or ignores every African-American character. (Seriously, I really liked Rose and Bernard. I want to see them in the show more.)

Darabount rips Lucas over Indy IV script
Time
That picture kicks ass, MBJ!

Hmm, in all seriousness, based upon George Lucas' #1 concern since the box-office results of Empire, he probably didn't like the script because it was too sophisticated. Most notably when it comes to Indiana Jones, he prefers simple stories that keep the action moving and don't bother with anything else.

But, that's coming from someone who's not a huge fan of the series or even Raiders. I like all of the Indiana Jones movies, since they're incredibly fun to watch, but they have nothing deeper for my mind to latch onto and that's what I usually return to movies for.

Alec Baldwin's Phone Message to daughter
Time
I actually thought the audio was hilarious when I heard it on the radio on Friday. The whole time I was laughing under my breath. It was basically like hearing a sibling being yelled at by my parents. The pig comment was bad, but the girl might have deserved it depending upon if she were acting like a pig or not.

I can't think of any situation where I'd ever use language like that on a child of mine (assuming I'll have children), but even I know I have my limits (say if the offense were on the level of murder or purposely destroying expensive property). At worst, Alec Baldwin is a jerk and his daughter won't suffer any mentionable harm from that fact. While at best, he cares about his daughter a lot and got overly pissed at some of her nasty behavior. I'm guessing the truth is somewhere in between. Either way, this shouldn't have become a public issue.

So in the end, it seems that bullying is encouraged and standing up for yourself is not, bad signal to send.

Months in a juvenile detention center for a black eye and a bloody lip? Also, the fact that it was self defense didn't figure into anything?

That was what I thought, but the self defense was considered mute by the judge and prosecuting attorney because they explained that the level of force far exceeded what was necessary. The attorney basically stated, "Black eye and bloody lip for a simple thumped ear. This amount of force used by said 14 year old was excessive and unnecessary in response to minor teasing which could have simply been reported to a teacher at a later time and did not require an immediate reaction by the Defendant."

People are so nonsensical. And what an hypocritical judge. They claim that the kid's response was supposedly too excessive, and then they, adults, turn right around, in the same breath, and sentence him to endure months in a juvenile prison, to drudge through 1000 hours of community service, and to spend the rest of his years of grade schooling in a crappy troublemaker school?!

Ears are sensitive and a thumped ear isn't minor to me. I'm fairly sure that if we were to tally the total harassment that 14-year-old had to endure from that bully, the bloody lip and black eye were called for. I'd actually commend the kid for sticking up for himself. All these damn laws and penalties for crimes that aren't even real crimes bug me. Thieves and murderers roam the streets but our justice system wastes time and money persecuting a kid like this. Even assuming the kid went too far and let his anger have too much control, that's what kids do. At most, suspend him from school or send him to the special school, but the rest of that was ridiculous.

"The Story of Star Wars" Narrator passes away...

He played a college professor on two episodes of The Cosby Show. He won an Emmy for one of the episodes. I actually prefered the other episode he was on. It was the one where Cliff Huxtable had a barbeque in freezing cold weather and all these people were over at the house for dinner. The most memorable part was when Theo and his friend "Cockroach" did a rap based on Julius Ceaser.

Ahh, that seems more familiar now. The Cosby show was great.

It's sad that Browne has died. He had a great ability to speak the English language.

Star Wars Fans Are Cool Regardless Of Age...
Time
I'm not going to excuse any of the unwarranted negativity that I have certainly expressed towards George Lucas on this forum in the past. He may have disappointed many of us, sure, but that was no valid reason for me to have insulted the man. However I will still say this:

1. I wasn't the one who went around promoting the idea that George Lucas was some kind of storytelling genius. George Lucas is the one that made that dumb mistake. If he now experiences a nasty fall in the eyes of particular Star Wars fans, then that's his own damn fault. He lifted himself up to be something he wasn’t.

2. I'm not the one who ever said that George Lucas couldn't have his personal “vision” for Star Wars. In actuality, he's the one who's actively trying to erase the original vision that I came to love at an earlier point in time. It is George Lucas who is actively trying to ignore the amazing historical and artistic achievement tied to the original Star Wars movies, and it is George Lucas who arrogantly works to prevent that original enjoyment of Star Wars. As far as I'm concerned, as a fan (fanatic) of the way things were, I'm the one who's on the defensive.

3. I didn’t force George Lucas to take some of the most truly successful pieces of entertainment around and mutate them via a confusing mess of useless alterations and worthless contexts. George is the one who ultimately made that blunder. If Star Wars fans and the general, movie-going public want to then discuss how bad the series has become as a result, then that's perfectly acceptable in my mind. If people value art, they should criticize that which muddles or destroys its excellence.

I make no apologies about trying to have high standards when I experience a particular art form. At the same time I also make no apologies about having a love for Star Wars. At that point it should be obvious that I would have a degree of trouble getting those two values to mix. For instance, if I happen to love some particular nuance within the original Star Wars—because I believe it is aesthetically valuable—then it shouldn't be difficult to understand why I would go on to express criticism for anything that threatens it. I see nothing wrong with a desire to advocate my position to others. Maybe I’ll then say something controversial or “negative” from time to time as a result, but I think that should be expected. Sometimes negativity can be totally valid.

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?

During the Clone Wars, Anakin was cloned without his knowledge - that clone, subservient to Palpatine, would become Darth Vader. He would have killed Anakin, infiltrated the Jedi Order, impregnated Padme (who assumed it was Anakin the entire time), and when the destruction of the Jedi was nearly complete, reveal everything to Obi-Wan in a Bond-villainesque kind of way. The one thing Darth Vader didn't plan on, in this scenario, was Obi-Wan beating him down in a duel near a volcano.

How does that twist work?

Pretty sweet idea. A little hard to explain though.

The dialogue spoken in this last episode (in the non-beach scenes) wasn't well written. Also, at the end, if Juliet hid the key because she didn't want Kate leaving her behind and alone, that wasn't explained too well. They almost made it sound like Juliet had handcuffed herself to Kate, and carried her out into the jungle, in an attempt to convince Kate to allow her to live among the non-others. (And I'm supposed to believe that Jack was asleep that whole time?)

Heh, I'm perfectly willing to admit that it wasn't a very good idea and that it was implemented very badly in RotJ, but I'm also saying that I can accept it.

For whatever anyone thinks of ROTJ, I give Lucas credit for crafting a non-typical story ending with Vader. Lucas could have easily played the 'revenge' card that pervades so many movies, but if you watch ROTJ again, can you name a movie that the protagonist and antagonist meet face to face and don't have a fight, and just talk? Your typical movie would be Luke kill Vader and then finally kill The Emperor with the help of Han/Leia at the end, and everyone lives happily ever after. Lucas I believe tried to make a different story then your usual one in terms of how ROTJ plays out, and sure he may have miscalculated with Leia and Luke as siblings, but overall I always felt the story of the OOT as a trilogy worked real well.

I agree. That spiritual ending, along with the highly emotional climax of ESB will cause me to always be a fan of the trilogy as a whole. Star Wars is the foundation for the later two films, and is the greatest of the bunch because of that, but I believe that the later two really expand my enjoyment beyond it. Return of the Jedi, while not nearly as great a movie as the first two, still has some really great moments in my mind.
