Do you feel like this: pre-1977 to 1983 is the real Star Wars Canon

Luke and Leia were never intended to be brother and sister. So says Gary Kurtz in an interview in 2002.

That makes things confusing though

1.) Why could Luke talk to Leia with the force

2.) Who is the "another" Yoda talked about.

I agree that those two things make it very convenient for Leia to have strength with the force. However, they don't imply anything about them being siblings. Originally the force was presented in a way where it was based upon destiny and attitude, not genetics. That's why most fans find midiclorians to be so offensive.

I actually hate how small George made the Star Wars universe. The father revelation is fantasic, but the sister revelation and onward were worthless and clearly written for no other reason than to pander our earlier enjoyment.

Regarding your second request, you can still use forum tags even with the advanced editor in place. Feel free to build your nested quotes manually if the editor makes it difficult to accomplish exactly what you want.

Ahh, thanks. Actually, I probably should have tried that by now. I guess I was stupidly assuming that entering quote tags would automatically create a preview.

Otherwise, the spacebar=line-skipping problem is not one that I get too often. It's happened to me once more since I posted this (again when a quote preview was at the top of the text entry). It's not a difficult problem to deal with but it does make me disoriented for a fraction of a second. :)

First time I saw the movie I fell asleep at some point during the Obi-Wan/Grievous grudge match. I never fall asleep during movies--theaters are too expensive to use as siesta parlors--but there was something hypnotic about the twirling colors and buzzing sounds that conveyed absolutely no information or emotion.

Brilliant. :)

My problem with Syth isn't so much the light show but the way the plot drones on and on from one boring idea to another with a seemingly endless number insultingly-condescending transition scenes telling us where our minds should be at every moment as if we actually cared about the obnoxious story inolving a war between digitized clones, digitized wookies, and digitized robots that offer us nothing to emotionally invest ourselves in since it's rapidly edited within a moral dilemma that is so mind-numbingly contradictory and absurd that we want it to end quickly so the movie can shift onto something enjoyable and yet the dilemma doesn't seem to end until we're thuroughly disgusted with it to the point where we could care less and the only relief is that this is when the movie finally ends.

Obiwan is only character in the film that I can care about and that's not enough to keep my interest going. Initially I liked the care and love displayed between Anakin and Padme, but I refuse to let my brain accept the illogical choice that tortures Anakin, since he would have had to have been a psychopath for it to have led to what he did, and that causes any of the sweetness in the earlier scenes to go sour.

It's a good trailer for a movie. However, will it faithfully translate the book's essence as it absolutely should? There are enough key changes that my worries in that area have remained unchanged.

My favorite aspects of the graphic novel were every Rorschach scene and how dorky and real-to-life both Night Owl and Silk Spectre were as superheroes. The trailer shows the key Rorschach stuff, so I'm happy about that, but perhaps it won't all be portrayed in a way that gets the same feeling of petty, pathetic-ness that really left me wanting to see him succeed in his . . . hopeless mission I guess. And, the stuff with Night Owl and Silk Spectre might be too on the bad-ass side and not as touching in the sense of them being real people. But, I saw nothing contradicting those aspects of the story, so I shall remain hopeful.

That would have been at least 10 times worse than what we got, truely terrible idea!

Hmm, I disagree. First, I don't see how his idea would have been worse. Second, there's a good chance it could have been better. And, the fact that it doesn't ruin dramatic elements from the original trilogy is a good enough reason to prefer it by default.

It doesn't look like anybody has mentioned this problem so I'll make a new thread. It's also kind of weird so I don't know if anybody else has experienced it or not. But, occasionally when I'm typing fast and I hit spacebar the cursor will skip down a line (as if I had hit the enter key but I'm sure that I did not). I think this has only happened when I've had a quote box at the top of the text entry.

I use Firefox and I refreshed the forums so the major bugs disappeared.

Oh, and a related request: Would it be possible to provide users with an optional, purely text-based entry? One where I could manually control things like quote tags for instance? The quote box preview is cool, but I occasionally like doing complex things when I quote other posts and I have some trouble getting quotes to be as I want them while manipulating the quote box preview with copy/paste and the Enter key.

Here in Canada this is mandatory and it hasn't stemyed our charity programs. I think its a good thing; kids ought to help out and learn the responsibility, even if they resent it, and its a good source of labor for charity. How many teenagers like work anyway?

You live in Canada, eh? With your knowledge of hollywood and filmmaking I always had the impression you lived in the West Coast of the U.S. somewhere. Now I'll have to imagine you gathered all of your Star Wars knowledge huddled in a warm basement in the middle of some frozen tundra.

The Dark Knight Movie Discussion (July 18th, 2008)

Eh, I'd say they were well into the unwatchable territory.

I enjoyed Batman Begins, but thought they spent way too much time on history and backstory. I don't care to know how or why he learned martial arts or the entire story behind the batmobile. I much prefer the darkness and mystery of Batman89. Which brings me to my only serious criticism of the Nolan films; the high-contrast cinematography. I really don't like how well-lit and sharp everything is. For me, that literal removal of the darkness also takes away the character's darkness. Dark Knight seems even more well-lit\high-contrast than Begins.

I loved the history and backstory. I would have loved an entire film devoted to practically just that. The best part of the film was the sword fighting on ice during his training (very dramatic). A few of the details—like purchasing his batsuit pieces—weren't needed, but I even appreciated those parts as trying to add realism. Essentially, Batman is all about self determination, self discipline, detective work, brilliant resourcefulness, and quick thinking. Batman Begins was the first Batman movie to actually capture that focus for its story and that easily made it my favorite.

I understand what you mean about the cinematography though. Batman begins was very straightforward in that regard while Tim Burton's version of Batman is more fun to watch.
Then the straightforward-ness of the movie descended into pure chaos during the fighting scenes with close, meaningless shots.

I would strongly disagree with that. Perhaps better spoken than him, but thats no accomplishment when you have the diction of a ten year old.

I was thinking more in terms of running a good campaign. You can easily argue that his advisors weren't as smart when it came to other, real issues (such as some involving "the war" . . . as well as others), but in general they've struck me as being very intelligent in their maneuvering (even when I've strongly disagreed).

So brilliant? So intelligent? So measured? Has exibited exhibited such great judgement? Hah.

From what I've seen the guy's pretty dumb, politically extreme, and has made some really poor judgements over the course of his life and in the campaign. He's not different from other politicians. To me he actually seems more like a well-spoken version of George W. Bush except for the fact that he's surrounded himself with people just as dumb as he is (at least Bush picked smart dudes to back him up).
