But I am wondering if there still is no proper 1981 textcrawl restored that would be compliant to Harmy’s DE version and/or the 4K77 version?
I would contemplate creating something like a branched MKV (with so-called “ordered chapters”) allowing for both versions to be usable in one MKV file.

I really enjoyed both “X-Wing” and “TIE Fighter”. The solo missions from “X-Wing vs TIE Fighter: Balance of Power” I only played through once. And “X-Wing Alliance” became overcomplicated for my taste.
“X-Wing” was way tougher than “TIE Fighter”, as it lacked very important features added to the successor: the function to match speed with target (as a result, Shuttles and Transports proved to be quite dangerous enemies, as you could easily crash into them), and the function to see the mission’s goals. In X-Wing, it was easy to miss out on some critical goal and be none the wiser. On the other hand, it made the victories feel more rewarding.
“TIE Fighter” is superior both in terms of the more coherent storyline, the aforementioned improvement in gameplay, the slicker graphics and sound, beloved EU characters like Thrawn. However, as far as cutscenes go, I prefer the classical disk version of those, instead of rather poorly-looking FMV from the CD edition.
Oh yeah, and the 1998 Windows versions are abominations that never should have seen the light of day.
Fine, fine first season. Not too hasty, taking its time, not overthinking it. A space western at its best.

I’d say, custom modification. The bottom part of this T/F’s central piece looks a bit bulkier (in order to have the landing gear in it) than the one of the normal T/F (which basically looks like a sphere).
The “For Your Consideration” site by Disney has leaked the usual alternative soundtrack, with track names spoiling details of the plot.
However, they removed it shortly after. However, I have the whole thing in MP3 format. 😃
Really enjoying it actually. Pleasantly reminded me of other classic space western series like Cowboy Bebop and Firefly. I have no issues with the tempo or the fanservice - it’s quite decently done for my taste.
Also, I like the Clint Eastwood vibe from Mando. Including the times he gets his butt kicked (like Eastwood did in each film of the Dollar trilogy).

Harmy was the pioneer who led the Original Trilogy into the HD realm. Before him, there were just the LD rips and the GOUT - I still have some of those, but nothing beats proper HD. Plus, reading and watching how he achieved some of the “despecializing” shots was like watching a fascinating Making Of.
Harmy truly raised the bar of what is possible.
Weren’t there German HDTV rips of the SE?..

No. The colours in that version are washed out, and it was not transferred digitally it was very obviously done by telecine which never produces a projection-accurate result regardless of whether you’re using a release print, a TV print, or whatever. I do not think it was even transferred for DVD - it looks like they used a broadcast tape literally transferred in the 1980’s for that release. It’s a full-screen transfer, outside of the US no one did full-screen transfers for DVD, even in 1997. And when they did the first digital restoration, and broadcast it, it was in widescreen.
The German DVD transfer (the old MAWA one) was indeed from the 1980s, and was actually done for the VHS and a later LD release. It’s just been reused for DVD.
As far as I know it is not possible to have the srt subtitles at the top because they contain only text and no position information. If your player supports them you should use the .sub files instead.
Two and a half years later, I’d like to point out that there is a way to show subtitles moved to the top via the extended command {\an8}:

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but didn’t galactic standard numerals kinda/sorta resemble arabic numerals, if only very vaguely?
Not just vaguely. Unlike the retconned letters (see “Tractor beam”) the Roman numerals are still part of Star Wars universe.
