Ep. III DVD - Purple vertical line?
Time
I was just throwing the theory out, trying to get a debate so iarwain's problem could be solved.

I agree that the for the price they paid for the cameras there shouldn't be a problem - purple fringing could be coming from the lense used, though.

As for the composite argument - agreed, but I would ask if all of the elements in the shot examples were CGI, or if some of it was either the Mt. Etna footage or miniature, which they used throughout the Mustafar sequence.

I'm thinking monitor calibration could be the culprit now, however.

This 2007 Archival Edition - For Real Or Not ???
Time
The only way that Blu-Ray will become a household standard by 2007 is if the PS3 costs under $500, which, at this point, does not look like it will. That will be the most affordable Blu-Ray player on the market at the time, when it eventually releases, and obviously only early adopters and hc gamers will get it.

My point is that there is no way in hell an HD Star Wars Saga boxset is coming out in 2007.

Changes you want (or don't want) to the 2007 archival editions

I want to see a straight transfer of the OOT from 36 or 16mm film stock. The guys that auctioned off the 'Jedi' 16mm was sitting on a gold mine.

From a preservationist POV, there's nothing more tactial and real than seeing a movie off of real film.

Take a look at Criterion's 'Chasing Amy' which was shot on Super-16 and you'll see what I mean...

Was that really the first Death Star in ROTS?
Time
Again, be careful when discussing EU & Canon.

I'm pretty sure in the 'Sith' commentary Lucas states that it is the Death Star from 'Star Wars.' At least I am positive that he doesn't say that it is a prototype.

Maybe it didn't take 20 years to roll out. It could have been completed and then tested or put into hiding for a long time. They probably don't take too long to build because in 'Jedi' the opening crawl states that the Emperor had secretly begun construction of a new Death Star after the Rebels destroyed the first one. Death Star II was almost completed by the time of the Battle of Endor.

If anything, the Prequels proved that Palpatine was all about the cloak & dagger - he tends to bide his time until he is ready to strike, which is why I favour my theory that it was completed and then sent into hiding. They obviously saw the Rebellion as a threat so it would make sense to keep it out of public knowledge for a while.

Then, when the Emperor is ready to tighten his grip on the galaxy, he unveils the Death Star and instills fear, which, is the ultimate weapon of control.

Ep. III DVD - Purple vertical line?
Time
I see what you mean, now.

It could be purple fringing which is an issue with many consumer digital cameras, whether this is an issue with the high-end DV cameras used on EPIII I am unsure of.

It's cause is debatable, but the general consensus is that purple fringing occurs when the lens is wide open in a high-contrast environment. the highlights become overexposed and specular reflections tend to 'max out.'

In theory, the smaller the aperature, the less purple fringing should occur. Maybe this is why EPII is lit so damned brightly for the most part. Think Jedi temple scenes and all of the daylight backgrounds. The more light, the smaller the aperature, less purple fringing.

Less light (EPIII), bigger aperature, more purple fringing.

This, of course, is just me talking out of my ass here, as I don't know if purple fringing is an issue with the Sony HDCF950 used to shoot EPIII.

Get off your high horse already, AWK.

Why did you come to a website called originaltrilogy.com in the first place, dedicated to preserving the Trilogy that the majority here know and love, only to continually Force feed your opinion down other's throats?

It just doesn't make sense, boy! You will find many people that share your 'vision' of the Saga, just not here.

I'm trying to be tactful & somewhat subtle for your sake, but if you want me to spell it out for you, let me know.

Your Favorite Star Wars Film

'The Phantom Menace.'

I love the story, the pace, the action, and especially Jar-Jar. Although, what would be really cool is if for the Saga Box Set Jar-Jar was replaced by a puppet. It would be so much more realistic and fit in nicely with the original trilogy. What would be even cooler is if they could get Sebastian Shaw to reprise his role as Anakin and then digitally alter him to make him look like a 9 year old. They can do that, can't they?

Moustapha Akkad killed...
Time
I brought this up in the Halloween preservation thread, but for those of you that don't read the preservation board, Halloween Producer Moustapha Akkad was killed in the Jordan hotel bombings, along with his daughter.

He was resonsible for bankrolling John Carpenter's original Halloween, and kept the franchise alive all these years.

If you've ever watched a documentary on the films, you will know who he is.

Sucks, doesn't it?

Cloning a clone is the scientific equivalent of inbreeding.

Pretty soon you'd have a cross-eyed, knock-kneed, buck toothed genetic abomination. Hence, the Stormtroopers.

Sorry to the cross-eyed, knock-kneed, buck toothed genetic abominations here. While I'm at it, sorry to the inbreds here, as well. You are a little freaky but I still love you.
