Holy crap my heart just stopped beating.

Oh, tell me about it! I finished Zelda II back in the day, Link's Awakening, OOT (several times), Wind Waker, Minish Cap and the Oracle games, but I never owned LOZ or played it for more than an hour, and never owned LTTP...how could I go for so long without playing those?

As an aside, what is everyone's thoughts on Nintendo's shoddy emulation of certain games on the VC?

Two games have been criticized for not being 100% accurate, namely Kid Icarus (different cheat codes) and Mario Kart 64 (no Ghosts). Personally, I feel that a game should be exactly the same as the original, flaws, bugs etc. and all. When there are too many enemies on the screen in an NES game, I want to see the same slowdown I saw back in the 80's. It really bothers me some games aren't perfectly emulated, and others will be altered - namely Ocarina of Time.

Now, I'm not sure if anyone has played OOT on the Wii yet, as I think it only came out in Japan thus far, but I'm guessing it is the politically correct version with the altered Gerudo symbol and Muslim prayer chant gone, plus Ganon's green blood...I guess I'm a bit of a purist and like to play games the way they always were when I first played them - which is why I still have most of my old systems hooked up...

Not to get off topic, but I disagree. I agree it is not a standalone flick, and it has no beginning, no middle and no end, but the movie is so damn good, I can watch it without caring about the rest of the saga. That is what seperates ANH/ESB from the rest, they don't rely on moments that tie the saga together to make them great, they are just well made films that are great on their own.

ROTJ works great at the end cause of the Vader/Emperor/Luke confrontation, the Yoda death sequence, and the ObiWan/Luke talk, and the only reason is because you can enjoy it in the context of the story 4-6 or 1-6 that sort of ties everything together. The same with the PT movies, the best moments are the ones that tie with the OT, and the movies can't rely on their merits of just being a great movie to hold up. I constantly hear PT fans favorite moments of ObiWan/Anakin duel, the building of Vader, Luke/Leia being delivered to their respective planets, and that is solely cause it ties the story you saw from 4-6. I never hear someone say that the Jake Lloyd Tatoine parts are fascinating, because in retrospect they really aren't that compelling, other then they get your from point A to point B to the growth of Darth Vader.

ANH & ESB will always be movies I can pop in without the OT story or the Saga story in mind, and they deliver everytime because they are just great movies.

But Jedi would never have worked without Empire, for that emotional pay off - and the same goes for Empire.

To be honest, back in 1980 it wasn't Empire that was great, it was waiting to see it that was so much fun...

And yet you still frequent the place, regardless of it being taken down?

Sean, I personally wouldn't visit a site that at the very least facilitated that sort of thing. If you think it's so horrible, why add to the sites traffic which helps them generate ad revenue and continue a site which, despite their best intentions, still allows users to upload that sort of thing?

Trust me dude, there's other places on the net for you to get your Japanese tentacle porn.

Just some friendly advice...

I don't go there for the tentacle porn I go there for the madness. I mean it's so funny what you will find there. It is very random and i'm addicted.

Go for a walk or ride a bike or something, instead.

Definately Yah! I can't for the life of me figure out why there are 2 analog sticks, but it's a great controller.

As with everything post-SNES Nintendo, it feels natural in your hands and is very comfortable to hold. Plus, since you're playing classic NES, SNES, N64 etc...games, it does a great job from a design sense of being a sort of tribute to all of their old controllers.

I think if the SNES were released today, the controller would be something like the Classic Controller. It's awesome. I can't say enough good thingd about it, of course I'm still on my Wii high.

I got the Wii Saturday after standing in -20 C weather, snow and ice, for 9 hours. I knew the store was getting a minimum of 20 in, and there was NO WAY IN HELL I was missing out this time around. I was 1st in line and snagged extra controllers, nunchuks and Zelda. So awesome...

Kotaku (or maybe Joystiq...?) had a blog about games they were ashamed that they'd never played. I thought it might be cool for us to post up our lists of games you're ashamed to admit you've never played - at all.

And we call ourselves gamers...

- Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
- Street Fighter II
- Anything starting in Final and ending in Fantasy.
- Chrono Trigger
- Super Metroid
- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Super Mario Bros. 3 (!!!)
- Metroid Prime
- Katamari Damacy
- Castlevania: Symphony of The Night (OK, I had it (PS1), played an hour of it, packed it up, and then an ex-girlfriend took the box it was in when she moved out. Fucking hell.)
-God Of War
-Grand Theft Auto (any of them)
-Half-Life (1 or 2)

That's about it...I've played pretty much every other "all time classic" game I can think of...Oh, one more. I started Majora's Mask but couldn't get used to the save system so I gave up...maybe I'll dust it off another time.

Wow - you just made a light go on in my head.

All the CGI tools in the World can't disguise bad artistry. Compare Jurassic Park with Van Helsing, 11 years after.

Which one will stand the tests of time and be remembered?

As an aside, rumour has it that Steve "Spazz" Williams deliberately made the 1997 SE Jabba look like shit because he was dissatisfied with ILM & LFL.

Agreed, C3PX on all accounts.

In terms of a films' effects withstanding the tests of time, I think it's dangerous to think that a film from, say 1933, or even 1977 should hold up to a film from 2007.

I think that the way you experience a film changes over time. For example, audiences were completely sold on the reality of King Kong in 1933. In 2007, I can watch the film and appreciate it's cultural and historical significance. It doesn't take me out of the reality of the film, but the way I experience it is different.

Same goes for Star Wars. In 1977 I totally bought into the reality of the film. In 2007 I don't experience Star Wars in the same way - I appreciate it more for the nostalgic value than the actual worth of the film...if this makes any sense at all.

Interesting points, above.

Here's what has changed since the original 3 Indy flicks.

The Bad - LFL sold off it's model making division.
- Longtime sound designer Ben Burtt left LFL. No word if he's returning.
- Traditional matte painting artists unemployed, replaced by CG matte painters.
- I gurantee Lucas will push to use some of the crew members from the Prequels, like the "set" designers
and costumers. Considering this will be the first Indy film not shot on UK sound stages, there is a good chance
all new crewmembers in smaller roles will not be the same as the first 3...kind've sucks.

In short, I very much doubt that traditional effects will be used, replaced by CGI. But the sky isn't quite falling yet, Chicken Little!

The Good- Spielberg will not settle for anything short of perfection on this. Remember, his collaboration with ILM brought us
the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park which at the time were totally believable.
- The CGI won't be as heavy as the Prequels, and I very much doubt Spielberg will shoot in front of all of that greenscreen.

I short, although things have changed, Spielberg is the Director and he relies on the story to tell the CGI, whereas Lucas relies on the CGI to tell the story. It will probably look and feel different, but I'm sure they will do as best as possible to maintain the look of the first three. As a side note and interesting tidbit, the filmmakers have apparently approaced some costume designers to replicate Indy's look from Raiders which had subtle costume differences from the other two. This could lead down the road to capturing the look and feel of Raiders which is totally cool by me!
