Then pass me a skirt because the Wii pwns.

Preach it, brotha Cassidy.

Anybody think 'Kid Icarus' is worth downloading?

I'm on the fence on this one. I had 400 points left to burn, and it was between Kid Icarus and SMB.

Nintendo managed to emulate SMB perfectly, but lost some of the cheat codes for Icarus. Because I am a purist (well, not really or I would just dust off the NES but that's a pain) I went with SMB.

I will likely purchase Icarus soon, if not just to hear the theme music again...God I hope they re-mix it for the Icarus levels in SSBM, whenever the hell that comes out!

Let me know what you think if you get it. This week it looks like Donkey Kong Country and Excite Bike are hitting the VC. Cool.

I've NEVER seen Wiimotes and Nunchuks on store shelves.

Last weekend when I camped out for a Wii (didn't want to miss out again) Toys R Us got in a case of Wiimotes and Nunchuks, and they said it was the first they'd gotten in about a month.

I suspected that the lack of product could be do to re-packaging with the updated wriststrap, but both the packed-in Wiimote and the one I bought had the original style strap.

Best bet? Buy Wii Play - I saw at least 25 copies yesterday on the shelf.

and no where near the film's style... that's what I was trying to say... and it makes me feel like a bunch of "we're so cool" designers designing them, not knowing
the real "feel" of Star Wars.

ok carry on.

Games are created on computers. I'd say they're doing a great job of getting the real "feel" of Star Wars in the last 10 years.

All right kids, those that like games for their stories on one side of the gym, and those that like to pick-up-and-play twitch reflex on the other.

What we get out of them may be different, but ultimately we're gamers and we have enough people in the World trying to bring us down without being at each others' throats. We should be sticking together and respecting each others' opinions.

Fair enough?

No way are they going to make Harrison Ford look younger for the film.

At most, I could see them using a younger actor to set up the storyline in the opening sequence...I've heard Marion is back for Indy IV so maybe the opening could be a flashback to him meeting her and Abner, I don't know.

Lucas, Spielberg and Ford are all on the record that the film won't overtly deal with an aging adventurer, but it will figure in, in some minor capacity.

Besides, I fail to see what the big deal is with people's obsession with aging movie stars. John Wayne was 60 when he made True Grit. Lee Marvin was 62 in Delta Force. Harrison Ford was 40 in Raiders. What's the big deal?

The key word there being games. Are they not video games? Are they now somehow classified as another form of entertainment simply because you have said so.

Also I wasn't the one who said

And what about the other games (other than you trying to take the focus off your illogical statement). I've played practically all of those games and I didn't care for there story's.

Another point to ponder, Online gaming, a very prominent and used way to play newer games anymore, and the most popular ones involve one pointing at another and firing, yet people do it for endless hours, because its great fun and the mode of game play is interesting. I guess all those people missed the part when a game doesn't have a story it no longer can be consider a game.

Story matters to me, and no amount of you insulting me or telling me otherwise will change and diminish that for me.

Wow. You totally just offended me.

Let me make one thing abundantly clear to you. Without a script, there is no game. Everything starts with the script. I don't think I've ever heard someone say something so ill informed and ignorant. I can think of at least 20 games that have better storylines, more compelling characters and more depth than anything you could walk into a theatre and see right now.

Give me a break, were discussing video games you might wanna get that checked out if your being even slightly serious.

Everything is the plot? Explain Madden, Gran Turismo, Fighting Games, Tetris. When talking about some of the best selling games you cant ignore them and they have no plot, zip, nothing, (even if they have something that vaguely resumes a plot its atrocious) but you know why they do so good...game play. If you cant understand this simple complex, sorry. Plot/Story is not everything and in terms of video games at times it can be completely nonexistent from a game and still be a great game, because one of the essential parts of a interactive video game does not have to be plot/story.

Okay, no need to get nasty.

The examples you used are ridiculous - you're trying to prove your point with games that are either twitch reflex or Sports games. Come on. Who are you trying to fool?

What about Final Fantasy? Halo? Gears of War? Zelda? Metal Gear? Silent Hill? Resident Evil? God Of War? Shadow Of The Collosus? Elder Scrolls? Myst?

If you aren't engaged in those situations, characters and storyline, then you are clearly not paying enough attention to what the game is doing.

Wake up, if you actually believe game story's are any good you have some low standards, its not like Martin Scorsese is writing the stories for these games. The majority of development and testing goes into the game play. Like I said before its a video game its meant to be played, if you need a good thriller go rent a movie.

I love his scores for the Harry Potter movies and hook.

Some of my faves are:

the star wars trilogy scores(original not special edition)
Superman 1
Jurassic Park
jaws
raiders of the lost ark, temple of doom, and last crusade.
e.t.

I worry about the Indy IV score. Most of his post 1980's work has been too serious and arty. I know how bad that sounds.

I just like a simple rousing score with lots of memorable themes...he doesn't seem to rely on thematic motifs too much lately, although ROTS was pretty good.

I think it's a good question, cause I've seen some stating they refuse to pay for the OOT. I own them. I got the recent re-release on dvd.

Where? Show us the posts.

I know many people refused to buy what they deemed to be a sub-par release on DVD, but I've never seen anyone say they wouldn't buy the OT since they can get them here (in whatever form) for free.

They also looked like a friggin video game. when I go to a movie I want to see a movie not video game cutscenes, or cgi fakeness.

who else thinks movie have become nothing more than a contest between compteting effects houses?

when I go to a movie I want characters and story. hollywood just does not get it and all of lucas freedom from the system what had it been good for?

is it not blantantly obviously that lucas cannot write and thought he could contruct, or write the story in the editing room during post. very, very bad. no one to tell him that is a bad idea. Lawrence Kasdan, Kershner and Kurtz all added to the scripts of the original trilogy. There was also the huycks and of course Leigh brackett.

He did not take his own advise. quote from star wars to jedi from gl " a special effect is just a tool, a means for telling a story. a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing"

that one quote and sentance from mr. lucas sums up what I think of the prequels.

quote from the cassidy"The general consensus was that apart from the reds being a bit overblown in HD, there was not that much of a discernable difference, and any distance between the two was rapidly closing with the advent of better lenses and other technical improvements".

this is simply not true a discerning eye can tell the difference between a single frame shot on HD or 35mm. I can pick apart movies fowards and backwards and tell where the gaffes and mistakes, jump cuts have been made if done poorly. Sure the everyday filmgoer or average american will not notice, but what about cinephiles. the only reason that lucas used HD video for the prequels is one word "cost". since he had to fund them himself.

Lucas was said to once have the talent to spot fakeness in a shot just like walt disney was able to spot a naked women put in a film in a single frame by one of his animator's, where has that talent gone?

Ooookkkkaayyy...but what the shit does that have to do with your technical criticism of HD versus 35mm. I wasn't making an argument about which is better, Stargate or Star Wars.

Quite frankly, this thread is to discuss Indiana Jones IV. If you have nothing constructive to say about it, then bugger off and post in one of the 1,000,000 "I Hate Lucas" Threads.

Have heard nothing about John Williams or the LSO's return to Indiana Jones but it is still early at this point.

At least Steven Spielberg is directing it, early on there was some indication he might not and old georgie would direct it himself.

having Kathleen Kennedy who worked on e.t. as the producer is also a very good idea. as well as it being shot on film, any dumbass who considers himself a cinematorapher knows HD video does not reach the quality of 35mm motion picture film and is not a lasting format for archiving for the future.

A while back I attended a meeting of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. The pupose of the meeting was to debate 35mm versus Digital. The camera that was used to shoot Episode II was there (yes, one of the actual cameras), and they showed footage from the Stargate TV series shot with a traditional 35mm rig and the Sony/Panavision HDW-F900.

The general consensus was that apart from the reds being a bit overblown in HD, there was not that much of a discernable difference, and any distance between the two was rapidly closing with the advent of better lenses and other technical improvements.

My point? No one would be criticizing HD if the Prequels were any good. If the story was rich and compelling, we'd all be praising the camera and excitedly looking toward the future. The fact that EP's II-III were shot in HD just gives Fanboys one more thing to rag on.

Holding on to film is noble, but to deny the possibility of HD is folly.

IMHO the only way to handle a film version of an old TV show is the way the first Brady Bunch movie was made. It was evocative of the series to a fault, but irreverant and ironic at the same time. I actually loved the way they handled it - they honoured the original series, but did some really weird, sublime things like having Alice on screen in an S&M costume for a fraction of a second to make you laugh, and I think it worked.

There really is nothing to be gained from making a film based on a TV series unless they try and look at the source material in a different way while remaining "true" to the spirit of it, rather than making a 120 minute episode with the hottest actors de jour.
