Lucas @ The Oscars
Time
For anyone who says the man doesn't have a sense of humour, I say behold.

So Lucas, Spielberg and Coppola present the award for Best Director to Scorcese.

The speech goes down something like this. (I might have the order wrong, but you'll get the gist of it)

Coppola - We're here to present the Award for outstanding achievement by a Director.

Spielberg - You might wonder why the three of us are here. It's because all of us have won the Oscar for best director.

Lucas - Wait a minute. I never won.

Spielberg - Oh.

Lucas - But I was nominated.

Coppola - Oh.

Lucas - It's kind've the same thing.

PAUSE

Spielberg & Coppola - NO IT'S NOT.

Huge laugh. Huge. It was pretty awesome.

Mario Sunshine was a lot of fun. It was not an amazing game by historical standards though. Miyamoto's last truly as-of-yet-undefeated, game-play feat was Yoshi's Island (in my opinion of course).

Surely you don't mean the N64 Yoshi's Island? Because that game was made of AIDS and fail.

If he meant the N64 version he would have called it Yoshi's Story, since, you know, that's what the game was called.

Celebrity's fucking deserve this they do stupid things and then get people to feel sorry for them when the paparazzi bug the hell of them.

Everyone deserves a modicum of privacy. Just because people like you put them on a pedastal doesn't give you a right to try and knock them down. Have a fucking heart.

It's the internet whining and Expanded Universe marketing that is killing Star Wars, not Lucas.

I disagree.

I also believe it's the internet whining, as you call it, that landed us the OOT on DVD. Without a unified voice, albeit a sometimes angry one, Lucas\Fox wouldn't have even bothered.

Big difference between thought out, articulate arguments and positive petitions, and "George Lucas raped my childhood" statements. That's the whining I refer to.

Again...illegal?

OK, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you will purchase all of the ROM boards for these arcade games, being the good little law abiding citizen that you are.

Here are, in my opinion, the greatest arcade games ever.

1942
Ninja Gaiden
Rastar
Splatterhouese (you'll like this one because of all of the death)
New Zealand Story
Out Run
Star Wars (vector)
Pac-Man
Ms. Pac-Man
Donkey Kong
Q-Bert
Zaxxon
Robocop
TMNT
The Simpsons
Marvel Vs. Capcom
Alien Syndrome
Golden Axe
Operation Wolf (not very much fun without the Uzi...but it's a classic)
Dragon's Lair
After Burner
Galaga
Dig Dug
Pole Position II
N.A.R.C
Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move (1-4)
Terminator 2

Sadly I hate that one too. SMSS is another one that's mediocre in my book. RE4 is a sweet game that I really need to get.

O_O... Jedi, dude... you're killing me here. Sunshine was certainly no classic, but to call it 'mediocre'?... Just wow...

As for Resident Evil V, I'm holding out hope that Capcom will announce it for the 360 as well. It's probably a long shot--yet I simply cannot afford to support games and accessories for five consoles and three hand-helds. Heck, I can't support what I've got! My mom gave me Call of Duty 3 for Christmas and that's still the ONLY X-Box 360 game I own.

Don't worry. REV was never going to be an exclusive, Capcom has stated that it is not economically viable to have a AAA title like REV exclusive to one system - especially considering skyrocketing development costs.

Based on the success they've had with Dead Rising and Lost Planet, I'd say REV on the 360 is a sure thing.

I have a funny feeling Sony's outlook for the PS3 will look a lot brighter once those titles are released.

Not having a PS3 (only a Wii & 360) how does the online store work? Is it cool? Lots of old titles for download? I am curious about it.

I hate, read: HATE floating over-the-shoulder cameras! You ALWAYS have to re-center with the damn things. Give me first person or a locked over the shoulder cam and I'd be happy.

Zelda in first person? Or locked? That would be nearly impossible to play. And how hard is it to press the L button to re-center the camera?

The point is that with every move I make the camera moves as well. No, it's not hard to re-center but it becomes an annoyance when I have to do it every 10 seconds.

I actually prefer manually moving the camera. With the exception of FPS's I've never played a 3rd person 3D game where automatic camera adjustment worked.

Two of the biggst offenders are gaming classics - Tomb Raider and Ninja Gaiden. Two very different games, with very shitty cameras.

The Game Cube was officially tombstoned yesterday. Another great Nintendo console rides off into the sunset...

Would you please elaborate on this? Was there a press release? How exactly did the NGC era die?

I just went to Kotaku to post the answer to your question, when I saw this:

OCARINA OF TIME ON THE WII THIS MONDAY!!!!

OK, now that I've cleaned myself up, Nintendo has apparently ceased production on the GameCube and any future (First Party) GameCube titles. Shouldn't be a big shock, but the report is in dispute, as seen here:

The Reports Of The GameCube's Death Are Greatly Exaggerated...

I'm REALLY looking forward to the virtual console when I get my Wii. The lineup I saw on their website is tremendous. I never had another Nintendo console after the NES (until GC), so I've never played the stuff like Link to the Past, SMB64, SMWorld, etc. I'm excited to play this stuff that so many people consider classic.

I take it you have never experienced Ocarina of Time then either? Perhaps that game isn't as great as we all make it out to be, but for those of us who had played the Zelda games from the beginning this was long awaited and the first time we got to see our much visited world of Hyrule in 3D. It was amazing.

BITE YOUR TONGUE!

Ocarina is as close to gaming perfection as we'll ever get - it's every bit as good as we make it out to be!

Hehe, the Playstation 2 is nowhere near retired yet, though.

Yeah really. I think they're using sales of that system as a lifeline in terms of their console business. It's probably still selling well. For $130 you can't beat it.

No kidding - Sony really knows how to spin numbers.

As far as getting another Gamecube goes, I've been thinking the same thing. Buy it cheap and keep it in the box for the future.

I wish I'd done that for the other systems. I actually bought an SNES for $25 at K-Mart when they went out of business here in Canada, and gave it away as a gift. Stupid.

I have seen sealed Gamcubes, both the Metroid Prime and Super Smash Bros. editions, going for $90 which is still a great deal.

You know, when it's all said and done, the game was not what it was hyped up to be, but better than what people say about it.

Rare had to rush it out the door, and as anyone who stuck with them throughout the N64 era knows, they ain't exactly in a hurry if you know what I'm saying.

The good news for Banjo Kazooie fans is that Rare/Microsoft has pretty much assembled the original team for the third installment, including (YES!) Grant Kirkhope who is one of the most underrated Video Game music composers working today.

Everyone goes (rightfully) nuts over Koji Kendo, but Kirkhope writes some tunes that get stuck in your head. I still walk around humming music from Grabbed By The Ghoulies which sucked except for the music...

It never got the recognition it deserved. It was a great console, and the controller was the most comfortable one I've ever held.

Good news is that the games will start being cleared out now and could be bought on the cheap - I saw Viewtiful Joe the other day for $15, brand new.

What GC titles dod you guys miss out on that you would pick up if you saw cheap?

For me, it'd be Animal Crossing.

And THAT is why guys like DJ rule. Do you know how easy it would be for him to list his HD2DVD stuff on Ebay? How many movies has he released that aren't available, or unavailable in widescreen? He could've made a mini-fortune on Monster Squad alone.

So, the lesson for today kids, is that if someone asks you for a copy, you send them one, otherwise suckers have to resort to Ebay and paying people like OCPTR47...erm...pirates for 'em.
