Lucas' Red Tails

Lucas, who is also producing and financing, needs reshoots and must do them himself. According to two sources close to the project, Hemingway was hoping to stay on for the redos, but was already committed to direct episodes of David Simon's New Orleans series Treme for HBO. (Lucas wasn't willing to wait.)

Lucasfilm confirms the directorial shift, which FirstShowing.net broke, but denies any conflict with Hemingway, saying Lucas and producer Rick McCallum will oversee the reshoot — with Hemingway's approval

With Hemingway's approval.  Sure.
Call me cynical but it sounds like George isn't even waiting for the 1.0 release before he starts making alterations and revising his original vision for the film! *sigh*

Not sure where you're going with this. The majority of films have reshoots before they're done.

So does this mean no new scenes or fixes? Like no digital Yoda in TPM, no recolored lightsabers, etc?

Darn good questions. Lucas was all about the new TPM Yoda on that "Star Wars in Concert" promo.

I've always firmly believed that Luke's wrong colored light-saber was a deliberate mistake, just to F with us. No way that could have passed however many levels of workers, quality checkers, printers, and Lucas himself without being noticed. Wont be surprised if it's not 'fixed'.

Comics. (Not the comedians)

I thought that Watchmen was a pretty decent adaptation.  Just this morning I heard someone else dismissing it.

I think the movie ending may actually (literally) be my preferred ending... though I'm still thinking about that.

What's your beef?

I found the film lost a lot of points with me personally when Dan and Silk Specter are attacked by the goons in the alley.

In the comic it's a spontateous act of surprisiong and frightening violence, and both are clearly shocked in the aftermath.

In the film they smirk at each other before entering a slow-mo orgy of bone breaking. They practically high five at the end.

I think Snyder's love of filmic violence occasionally clouded his attempts to be faithful to the (themes especially of the) book.

The novel had a feeling of everything must be viewed from a Prequel point of view.

This pretty much sums up the current state of the EU.

And even the colouring books.  I saw one the other day I was going to buy- it had OT vader on the cover.  It had the 80's double line going around the edge.  I figure'd it had to be OT.  Then I flipped through it and only saw pictures of 10 year old Annie, Jar Jar, and Sebulba.

What the H-E-double-hell??

Got this for my boy. It contains the following:

  • CGI Yoda
  • SE Han running into Stormtroopers
  • SE Millenium Falcon take off
  • AOTC Anakin
  • ROTS Anakin
  • ROTS Vader

And it's only like 13 pages long!!

Jesus. They didn't miss a beat.

They never do. Especially at around $10 a pop. Freaking ridiculous. You have to pay $10 for a over-detailed tiny action figure that isn't even of a character you would want to play with.

PRUNEFACE!

I sure want that Mon Cal pilot to play with, and as a kid I played with my Pruneface figure all the time.

And this LADY re-dubbed with a lady voice (as "BigBadGMan" pointed out).

That would make the rebel pilots as a whole much more interesting.

Hey!  I thought I said it first!  I demand royalties and rights when you mention redubbing the woman's voice!

<whining> but the thread's so loooooooooooooooong!  </whining>

I don't get the hate.

Sure it 'sucks' on the level that it's an uninspired pop ditty sung by someone with no great talent. What I don't get is how it's somehow worse than the 10,000 other songs over the years that fit that description?
The hate has nothing to do with this song and everything to do with Friday.

Fair enough, but even "Friday" isn't that much more banal and/or uninspired than this tune.

Is the hate somehow that this girl dares to break away from the system of how pop musicians are supposed to make it to the limelight? Because Ms. Black's rise to pseudo-popularity doesn't involve nepotism, extreme luck, corporate backing, and age-inappropriate sex-appeal, is she really worthy of all this hate. Why are people mad that her path to success isn't based on talent, when most pop-musicians's aren't.

And how many pop songs are based on the someone cloying wish-fulfilment premise "I'm not gonna give up, I'm special!" At least 80%. The fact that this girl actually isn't that talented and now has this celebrity is exactly the appeal.

All we can do is speculate until we see for ourselves:

a: I want that in my house.

b: You're right about speculation.

c: I really meant grammatically if something is already 'flawless' it has no flaws. It cannot become 'more flawless .' Sorry, it's the high school teacher in me. ;-)

Maybe it's just my SE hate talking, but isn't that impossible?

Seven Samurai (1954), The Magnificent Seven (1960), A Bug's Life (1998)

I haven't seen the original, but it's considered a classic. I've seen the other two, and they're both excellent, though obviously A Bug's Life is a bit different in tone.

"Bugs Life" seems more of a riff on "The Three Amigos," which is itself plainly poking a bit of fun at "Magnificent Seven."

I don't think I've ever read a single book he's ever penned.

I'm sure you have. The man wrote 81,002 books. You can't avoid him.

Hell, he wrote 17 autobiographies, half of the Talmud, and most of the Encyclopedia.

And here he is chilling during the war with Heinlein and L. Sprague DeCamp. I have this pic framed by my writing station.

Yojimbo (1961), A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Last Man Standing (1996)

So "Last Man Standing" is a remake of "Yojimbo," which had an uncredited remake in "Fistful" and is itself an uncredited adaption of the novel "Red Harvest" which has to be unique in all novels as having three adaptations, none of them official.

I hope someday "Red Harvest" gets made and everyone says "This movie is a rip of of 'Last Man Standing!'"

EDIT

Even kookier, but I haven't seen it, supposedly Yojimbo was also remade as The Warrior and the Sorceress with David Carradine.

Threemake:  When a movie has been remade a third time.

Gojira (1954), Godzilla (1998), Godzilla (2014)

The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Omega Man (1971), I Am Legend (2007)

Yojimbo (1961), A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Last Man Standing (1996)

King Kong (1933), King Kong (1976), King Kong (2005)

I rather like "Last Man Standing."

Don't forget "The Maltese Falcon" (with Bogart) is the third remake of that particular novel.

I'd hesitate to call the US "Godzilla" a remake. I'd just call it 'another big monster movie that bought the rights to a recognizable title.'
