I don't get why I should care. People die all the time, that's life. Unless the person had a profound effect on your life, there is absolutely no obligation to care.

You can set your watch by it. Every time someone famous dies there's the "why should I care?" holier-than-thou post.

I don't see it as holier than thou.

It's the assy "People die all the time, that's life" "No obligation to care" as if we're all to stupid to know that.

Because one look at the posts in this thread show that everyone was weeping and gnashing their teeth in soul crushing grief over out deep relationship with the late Ms Houstan.

Paramecium's profound wisdom has deeply moved me. I will no longer spend all my waking hours weeping over obituaries of people I've never met.

Still can't understand why people would want any of the movies, prequel or original, in 3D. Yes, I realize it's a fad and people like it for the kiddies, but anyone with half a brain should realize that giving George money to sell them the same garbage over and over again is a bad thing.

Yes, apparently not. Like I said, it's a drug, people will pay for anything with the name on it.

As someone with perhaps more than half a brain, I think that ten bucks for the entertainment of seeing TPM in 3D is a fine amusement to kill two hours.

The music of the Original Trilogy vs the music of the Prequel Trilogy

I love the PT scores.

There's something epic and melodramatic about them, that matches how the PT is more epic and melodramatic than the OT, while at the same time feeling like they belong with the OT (more so than the films IMHO).

I think the ROTS score is up there with SW as my personal favorite.

"Across the Stars" single handedly saves whatever emotional investment I have in AOTC. I beleive those kids are in love because of that song.

Worst/Best Villains in Star Wars Lore.

 BEST:
OT Vader

Tarkin

Dooku. I know a lot of people don't care for him, but Lee brings such gravitas and dignity to the character, it carries within his performance a hint at the kind of self-deception that would be inherent in being so evil.

Garridian

Darth Maul. Was scary, cool, seemed a legit threat with little need to waste time on him.

WORST

AOTC Seperatists. All this build up, and we see a bunch of silly cartoons having a staff meeting.

Younglings. They have that scene in AOTC showing that younglings are armed, but they don't get to put up a fight in ROTS. I'd love to see 19 little kids fighting Anakin at once.

Vader not Luke's Dad... imagine!

oh, man, I dunno...it would have been really difficult to picture luke still thinking vader had good in him at the start of jedi.

maybe....maybe the forgiveness angle could have been pulled off at the end of jedi.  But not the benefit of the doubt part.  Unless there was more footage of yoda and ben talking ot luke.

But doesn't Luke still have a lot to forgive even with Dad-Vader? His dad murdered his mentor, tortured all his pals, cut off his hand, and is a really bad guy.

If Luke only forgives him because it's his dad, that seems selfish. But (it seems to me) he forgives Dad-Vader because he senses there is still good in him, regardless that it's his dad.

THE HELSTROM CHRONICLES!

Finally on DVD, this Academy Award winning nature documentary/mockumentary(???) from '71 is the most fascinating and terrifying look at the insect world of all time. All the Hi-Def cameras and things they have today can't top this for pure hypnotic qualities.

I've been wating to watch this again since I was 11 and I saw a VHS copy at the library. Did no dissapoint.

Vibrant organic eclectic language.

Thats just because you're afraid of Esperanto!

I always teach my students that English is so complicated because the English people could never win a war. Seriously, if you Brits could have just stopped Caesar, or William the Conquerer, or Ivanhoe, or whoever else conquered your little island and complicated your language, I'd have a lot less irregular verbs to learn!

I love it. Something about the mythic ending that there needs to be a re-joining, rather than a destruction of an enemy is very appealing.

Wish there were more films like this. Puppetry pwns

I heard once that Henson wanted the Skeksys to speak a foreign language, and we'd just have to make inferences as to what they were saying, but the studio balked.

Someone once told me there were no multisylabic words in the english language that had a single pronounced 'E' following a consonant at their end.

Adobe.

But for what it's worth, Adobe is a Spanish word that English borrowed. On top of that, I think it originated in Arabic.

English is full of that nonsense. Stupid language.

Prometheus makes man and gives him fire and science, Zeus is offended and eternally torments Prometheus, Zeus causes man to suffer all the evils released from Pandora's urn.

Through Science, Man makes Creature, Man rejects Creature out of horror of offending God, Creature torments Man, Creature suffers and is consumed by fire.

Then dinosaurs eat man... and woman inherits the Earth.

Vader not Luke's Dad... imagine!

What if Vader hadn't been Luke's dad?

What if ESB had Vader tempt Luke... not because he was his father, but because he was the last young Jedi who might help him. He says, "Yeah I killed your dad, but wouldnt ruling the universe be cool?"

And then in ROTJ... Luke STILL tries to redeem Vader because he senses some good in him, perhaps an ounce of regret that he betrayed and murdered his friend. And the film all plays out more or less the same. Luke strives to get Vader to be good because it's the right thing to do, not just becasue it's his dad, and Vader sacrifices himself to save Luke because it's the right thing to do, not because it's his son.

Not saying it would be an improvement, but think about the emotional weight of forgiving and redeeming your father's murderer, because Luke is just that in tune with goodness and the Force.
