I Ike it! I think it works better as an almost blinding light rather a very clear, properly exposed explosion. I did notice some flickering on the bottom a little.

The flickering is from an encoding issue, otherwise, the only thing left is the debris of what remains of Alderaan.

I would try some rubble over laying some of the blast, with a glow coming from behind it that will do a light wrap. So we get the effect of rubble coming toward us. If you check out my Prequels Revised Trailer 1 or 2 there is a shot im creating where a building blows up. Its still in production and not done but something akin to that.

A quick suggestion for ROTJ:R, maybe throw in a reference to Thrawn in the background displays or see if you can add the Rebel’s Ghost ship in the Battle of Endor. It would be quite a treat for fans of Star Wars Rebels. ESB:R is a masterpiece. Wishing you all the best on ROTJ:R Ady!

Chopper is already in ESB:R 😉

Im doing a prequel trilogy and was wondering how you were handling Leiah knowing her mother if at all. I want to make the prequels fit with the Ot and not spoil or mess anything up with continuity. Not sure how i should handle the twins just yet

Which specific aliens and droids are you going to change the voices for?

Can you do anything to fix the continuity with Ewan McGregor’s hair and weight in TPM and fake beard in AOTC, or is that too much for you?

In ROTS, when Anakin arrives on Mustafar, and puts his hood on, it looks like they forgot to change Hayden Christensen’s right hand. It’s still fleshy!

I think the digital head replacements for Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid could use some touching up on.

What will you do about Vader’s “Noooooo!”?

At least Jar Jar, Gun-Gun’s, Droids, Waiter in ATOC, Etc.
His hair, probably not. Weight either. That is definitely probably more than i can do. Replacing his hair would involve finding all those right frames some where else. They would need to be lit right and more. It would turn out like trying to replace a lightsaber hilt through out a battle scene. Too many angles to duplicate. You’re not likely to find all the angles you need. Then on top of that they would all have to be blended to match the scene.
Anakin’s hand i can definitely fix.
Which scene for Dooku and Sidious are you referring to?
Vader’s No is going bye bye. In fact, Vader is going bye bye from the prequels. Only way to preserve the narrative of the OT. He will not be named Vader, and you wont see him turn to Vader. Last youll see him is burning on Mustafar.

Does this mean the shot of Vader and Sidious looking at the construction of the Death Star at the end will be removed too?

I would like to improve that shot though. Moff looks terrible imo and the rest of the scene very clean cgi. The idea of keeping it tho but cutting ties to Anakin is so that the mystery in ESB is maintained. The idea behind it to me is that the Emperor is killing Anakin too. No one will ever know that Anakin was Vader, they would just assume Anakin died too. Partly to re-inforce to Anakin that that side of him is dead and he is only Vader now.

The biggest thing im not wholly sure how to handle is the birth of the twins. Idk if i should just strike Leiah from the scene and Lukes name. Just cut Leiah and keep Luke being named. Move their birth to earlier in the film and try to cut and redo the dream/death of them in his mind. Im not sure how Ady is handling Leiah having known her mother. Should i just cut Padame dying? Maybe try and find a way to do a scene of her alive after Anakins death?

Remove the entire childbirth scene altogether. In fact, remove the scene where Obi-Wan meets Padmé upon arriving back to the ship after his duel with Anakin. The last time we see a living Padmé should be when Anakin Force-chokes her. Since you’re also cutting the scene where Sidious discovers Anakin’s burned body on Mustafar, we should cut from Obi-Wan getting back to the ship to the shot of the ship arriving on Naboo.

As for the twins? We should assume that they’re just babies whose parents died in Order 66. And in A New Hope, everytime Obi-Wan, Owen, and Beru talk about Luke’s father, they should be referring to a different Jedi and not Anakin (that also means Luke shouldn’t say “Skywalker” when he arrives at Leia’s prisoner cell).

(Maybe Anakin can still be shown becoming Vader, as long as you remove Obi-Wan meeting Padmé as he gets back to the ship, as well as the childbirth and any direct mention of Luke and Leia being related to Anakin or Padmé, to keep the reveal of Luke’s father being Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader intact.)

In a machete cut, im cool with leaving Vader in. In the Trilogy cut meant to be viewed chronologically, id like to remove Vader so it doesn’t spoil ESB. (Incase you havn’t seen it a billion times like most of us)

No, i think im leaving that and trying to set it up with Palpatine’s line about having a new apprentice. Just making him seem cold and calculating and Anakin was as disposable as Maul and Dooku.

Now that’s an interesting idea. Still doesn’t make a great deal of sense. One imagines Ben and Yoda’s conversation continued after the scene ended.

Ben: That boy is our last hope.

Yoda: No, there is another.

Ben: Wasn’t ‘the other’ part of the group in danger Luke was concerned about?

Yoda: Not sure am I; pay attention to the specifics of what he saw I did not.

Ben: Well, it would seem the two would die or be saved together, wouldn’t you say?

Yoda: MmmmmMMMMM. Right I suppose you were: our last hope that boy is.

Damn it, now im never going to be able to not think about this lol 😄

Do you plan on removing the Chosen One prophecy altogether?

I had no plans on removing it. Was it something most fans didn’t like? I had only planned on removing midi-chlorians from the plot, and possibly Sidious’s connection to Anakin’s birth. I do kind of like it more with Anakin having the potential to be the prophesied one, but failing in a sense. In the sense that he succumbed to the dark side due to the potential loss of Padame, but that his love for her was still something that brought about Luke and Leigh, and showed an error in Jedi Idiology. As Luke would go on to also challenge the Jedi Idiology for his love of his father, and proving in the end that love is worth something. Saving his fathers soul, who in the end, fulfilled his destiny and destroyed the Emperor. (Choosing to watch the ST doens’t change this narrative, as this is still how ROTJ ends it’s narrative).

Im open to thoughts and suggestions

Has anyone seen episode 5 of The Mandalorian yet? About three minutes into the episode a new digital shot replicates the opening of a New Hope.

It appears to be recreated using the original elements from ANH, not digital.

Wouldn’t be worth nabbing till they dropped the blurays any ways. Streaming quality isn’t as high. I keep hoping they’ll show more clone wars era destruction that i might be able to use when the blurays drop.

When do you expect to release your edits for the prequels?

Not for another year or two realistically. There is so much to do still and not even close to done. Not a single scene in the trailers is finalized. There are a lot of scenes i havn’t even touched yet. Plus the audio side of things. The rotoscoping is by far the slowest process, and there is a lot of rotoscoping to do still. Even something as simple as the maul and sidious balcony scene have a lot. Plus tracking the background motion in one shot on top of the rotoscoping of the balcony and all of it’s openings, Maul, and Sidious, and the flying probe droids. Rotoscope the lamp so it shines again after being rotoscoped out from the back gound. Plus adding in new lights for traffic, rain effects, lightening, colorization for lightening. Rotoscope the building so its in front of the lightening. I still have to add a light edge to the building from the lightening. I need to make a list of all the changes but even that list is going to take time. There is so much being done. I really want it to look good too so im trying to take my time as much as possible. Somethings are tricky too. Like the scene of the tanks rolling up to Theed. I’ve never liked the hills and grass in that scene. Replacing it all properly is tricky though and involves a lot of rotoscoping for all those little ships.

Im of the opinion like some others, that the ending has too much going on. So im focusing on the Jedi battle, and the capture of the Vice Roy. I want to still use the cut scenes though, for pacing reasons, and for narrative effect. Some of the space scenes are being altered and reused for the Escape of Naboo. In which the fleet will distract and engage the Federation fleet so the Queen can make an escape. This involves working both fighter ships into some scenes with the Queen’s (which some are in the trailer), and some of the Queen’s ship into the Battle shots. On top of re-rotoscoping the laser fire/impacts. Adding in new explosions. There is camera shake added to the Queen’s ship interior views, on top of Emergency lights kicking on and flashing.

Some of the other shots from the Ending are being used for the Attack on Theed by the Federation, to both create a short dog fight in the skies above Theed, and a short ground battle showing Federation ground troops. On top of trying to create wholly new scenes helping to convey the carnage.

The Gun Gun field battle will happen after Qui-gon visits Otah Gunga and before the Invasion of Theed. Will have Jar Jar removed from the battle and end in defeat. The tanks firing upon the force field will be removed and re-purposed for the Invasion of Naboo.

The deleted scenes being inserted will have work too. I want to try to replace as many elements with elements from the movie in 1080, or with other high res elements. Where possible.

The effects to Jar Jar i want to improve for the scenes he pops up in along with the other Gun Gun’s. Im trying to do an extraction to add more depth to certain aspects of his skin. (Similar to what corridor crew did with the Scorpion king). Im also trying to figure out how to add in new texture bumpmaps and get them to track and move with the body or clothes. Nothing too over the top but enough to tell a marked difference in quality. If i can improve my computers work capability and master Blender or something then i would be capable of improving much more, but we’ll see about that.

I would also love to get a hold of a good camera that shoots in 4k with high enough capability to film new scenes similar to what Adywan has achieved with his edits. Not so much would be needed for TPM, but the next two films it would be especially nice for. This includes filming model ships against green screen as opposed to digital ones. Along with Theed soldiers for some ground battle shots. I would lovvvve to have real clone troopers in the movies, instead of just cgi ones. Along with possibly making new models for backgrounds and elements with in the shots. There is one in TPM of the cockpit view that is horrible. The instrument panel looks so digital, like a N64 game.

So there is a lot to do realistically and i would hate to rush things and put out something that wasn’t on the level it should be.

You could also cut that scene imo. There is little pay off to it and the point of the scene is really the following line, that he could stop people from dying. That’s what hooked Anakin, because the driving plot at that point is really his fear of the loss of Padame. As his dreams tend to come true, this is what drives him right down to the final moment he’s staring off at Padame across buildings. Breaking at that moment and deciding to stop Mace. It was made that moment imo, not when he was there and cutting his arm off. He wasn’t supposed to be there.

https://youtu.be/05dT34hGRdg

I did a cut a while back and made it work decently as “he could use the force to create life”. It was a little jarring but worked okay. Wish I still had the clip.

Not if you space it a little bit, re-cut, and use some of the music from the soundtrack for that scene. I used different cuts of them when they were speaking that section. Like that behind shot of them.

I think Hal 9000 edited the scene to remove the midi-chlorians mention in his Revenge of the Sith edit.

Yea, i took it out in my personal machete cut i did early this year (Which prompted the Revised Trilogy). Vader being named came out, Midi-Chlorians, and various cheesy dialogue. Those kind of edits were actually some of the easiest. Editing during action was a little trickier just cause of the music and blending things to where they didn’t seem noticeable or a jump.

So, the Purist Cuts will keep the original alien and droid voices, right? The only things different in them from the official versions will be the vfx enhancements, the visual continuity fixes, and the color correction? Just making sure I understand this correctly.

Oh ok. We shall see. Im not there yet. Ill put it on the list of things to try for though. No, on the purist cut ill probably still change the droid voices. Just the events will play out the same. At least thats what i had in mind. Still a little ways off from that though. So ill keep you informed

Im considering using the music from the 3rd trailer for the beginning of the podrace before Jabba rings the gong. Right then it would cut out and the engines would kick off going into different music to fit the podrace. This is a defining moment in Anakin’s life, and a moment the good guy’s are depending on too. Would like to make this moment have more weight to it, along with fun and excitement.

Nein!!! Omg that was f*cking awesome hahaha I thought the Turkish one wasn’t too bad. The Spanish one made me laugh pretty good.

Yea the only versions im doing where Vader will appear is the purist cut, and the Machete Cut. My Revised version, and the version to go with Revisited both cut Anakin. Adywan planned on doing the same thing to preserve the Vader reveal for ESB.

TBH, i prefer the Machete Order but that’s just me. I like the order of information. Start with Luke, end with Luke. Vader reveal, Sidious Reveal, then seeing it all before starting Rotj, where Luke starts off looking dark like Anakin and force choking people like a boss. Also the lightning scene being reinforced by ROTS having been viewed right before ROTJ, really puts it back onto Anakin and his choices in that moment. Along with Lukes belief and hope in him.

Never seen the Russian/ Japanese sub version for that scene. Was it better? Vader won’t appear in mine but cool to hear. And yea i was aware of his hair, braid, and hilt changing sides, but i had never heard about his weight. Worth mentioning though and may be do-able by some one. Just not me. I think it might be technically possible, especially with Deep fake tech. I unfortunately am not versed in those programs yet, and also do not have a work computer, but a straight home computer. The render times on that alone would be tough

To be fair, there is only so much you can do.

Yes, but if that is the case you might want to ask if you can pull it off or if it is even needed. I’m always wary of the “to be fair” defenses when a shot can’t be pulled off. I tried to do a force vision reusing footage and many in the community let me know it didn’t hold up, so I eventually axed it because I didn’t have the skills to pull it off at that time. One problem I have with the prequels is that they show way too much and over explain themselves. I’d have to agree that the current scenes are noticeable at the moment and I view it as a workprint/proof of concept. Hope you can pull it off.

Tried a few tweaks to the existing scene of Dooku. Altering levels, brightness, contrast, tint, blending mode, and a few other things.

I thought DrDre only did TPM and Hal did the other two? Either way, i get what your saying. I dont recall either which scenes where done or not, but thats ok with me. I think there were a couple i kind of wanted where a background replace would have helped.

I have some questions, please.

  1. Will there be a version with the original lightsaber colors? Like having Obi-Wan’s remain blue and not green, for example?

  2. I know this is YOUR edit, and I don’t want to sound controversial, but would it be possible to have a version of the PT Revised that includes the parts about Midichlorians? Because personally, I have no problem with them.

  3. What kind of alien/droid voice dubbing will be done?

  4. What scenes are you planning to cut out completely?

  5. How are you going to make the DVD deleted scenes look more presentable, since they were never released in true HD?

I believe Hal 9000 has high-quality versions of most of the deleted scenes on his Google Drive.

It would be nice if Hal had done all of the scenes for the trilogy but i totally understand why not.
