What is your home theater setup for watching Star Wars movies? (or what equipment would like to get if you could afford it/or dream setup?)

is there a noticeable difference

between 5.1 and 7.1 sound?

If I may answer this, I'd say that it comes down to your viewing environment.

If you have a wide configuration, the additional 2 rear speakers (originally 1, as in 6.1, until they realized that having a single speaker directly behind you could often give the false impression that the sound was actually coming from infront of you) can fill out the rear stage somewhat.

If your room is narrow, then I don't think the extra surrounds are necessary. 2 speakers, evenly placed and calibrated will fill that space just fine.

I'm not a big fan of having the primary rears at the side of the layout, roughly in line with the seating positions, as is often suggested. This isn't compatible with 5.1 mixes and is less enveloping. I tried out this configuration for a few months at my old place before taking down the side speakers and going back to 5.1, which was much more immersive. At my current residence, where I've once again gone 7.1, I have all four rears behind the seating position (the 'sides' only brought forward slightly) and that works well.

I guess its similar to when people are forced to put their couch up against a wall and must have their rears on either side - its still enveloping but you never quite get the sense of the audio originating from behind you.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Others' may vary.

Thank you, Harmy, and happy birthday.

Thanks, also, to everyone else involved.

Now, does anyone know if I should download this from usenet, would I be able to return to myspleen and help seed? That is, will the two versions match?

Also, if anyone is still in need of a myspleen invite, please feel free to PM me. I've got a few spare.

AND ANOTHER THING, IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME WHY THE CODE APPEARS IN MY POSTS, I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT...

Others have said many times that in your case you need to clear your Internet cache.   I recommend using 'Ccleaner'.  It's a great lil program, here's a link. :

Thanks, Stretch, hopefully that did it!

Thanks, also, Jan for your usenet advice. I will just get it from myspleen.

In other news, the anamorphic lens for my projector arrived today. Hmmmm... I wonder what movie I will use to test it out with?

Night of the Living Dead 1990 (* unfinished project *)

Thanks to See No Evil, I will have a few more features to add to this disc. The first is

 - Tom Savini's camcorder footage during the making of NOTLD90.

That would be most interesting to see!

You also might wanna check out this NOTLD90 facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/notld

The guy there has been uploading some very interesting promo and behind-the-scenes photos that I've never seen before. I get the feeling he may be in contact with one or two of the actors and effects guys.

Who knows what he might have or know about?

I don't think English is his first language, however, and he may even be using a translation script.

Good luck with this very worthy project for this flawed but fascinating film.

Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases

Great, keep them coming! Didn't know they had done that to Dirty Harry. So have the original mix been absent since the LD format?

AFAIK, the 5.1 remix has been the only available English-language option on all DVD and BD releases. The LDs were mono.

If you wanna sample the difference, perhaps try playing one of the other languages for the first five minutes (until the credits finish) and during the rooftop shoot-out (under the 'Jesus Saves' sign). That should give you an idea of the overall differences between the original and remixed tracks.

Have you seen the 1080i HDTV version of EFNY that's floating around? If so, does it contain the original 2.0 mix?

From what I've read, the picture is way too dark on the US blu ray and is an SD upscale on the Euro/Australian blu rays. Aye, yaye, yaye...

If all this is true, then the HDTV version might be the way to go.

EDIT: So it looks like the HDTV version had 5.1 audio:

Escape.From.New.York.OAR.1080i.DD5.1.ts

Escape.From.NY.1080i.nfo

Probably the remix then, huh?

Anyway, more on the blu ray video side of things:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews51/escape_from_new_york_blu-ray.htm

The HDTV video was definitely superior to both BD releases (had the DVD's colour/contrast and in high def) but, being 1080i MPEG2, probably had its own problems, I'm sure.

It would be nice to mux the 2.0 audio and the HDTV picture together, me thinks.

As for usenet, thats sadly not an option since my ISP doesnt have newsgroup abilities. Double BLAH.

Neither does mine. But Astraweb are charging only 50 bucks for a full terabyte of usenet downloads. If you can scrounge the money together, that'd be very handy for moments like these and could potentially last you for years if used selectively.

The crappy camera phone and youtube compression doesn't really convey it too well but it looks great. Plenty of detail.

Looks great! I asked for this because I saw Spider-Man 2 BD projected on Epson 1080p and was awesome, like a real theater!
Here, take a look: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=1027453&postcount=582

That's the exact same projector I'm using. Its a great projector but I've had mine for over 4 years now. Definitely time for an upgrade. Those photos are much more representative of the viewing experience than my horrid video.

And, for the record, I'm very happy with Harmy's project being 'only' 720p. The possible slight loss in detail is greatly compensated by the more forgiving compression.
