Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

If the sources are the same fps, and they go out of sync (assuming its not a capture error), would it be reasonable to assume that differences (ie. extra frames) occur at the reel changes? You could trim at those points without negatively affecting the audio since there should be no carry-over music, dialogue or effects from one reel to another.

Perhaps release the mkv with DD audio tracks as standard and make the DTS-HD MA available for muxing?

I'd put the DTS-HD MA tracks as standard on the blu, however. If you're rocking blu ray, you should also be rocking DTS of some sort. Any receiver (of worth) made since well before the advent of blu ray should support DTS, surely.

And, yeah, worse case scenario: there's always the option to have the player decode the DTS for you (which you would already be doing, I should imagine).

That said, I have no preference. If there's room for duplicate Dolby TrueHD and regular DD tracks, without sacrificing video quality, then I don't see a problem in going that route.

Does anyone have a myspleen invite?

PM sent.

...Even though I'll probably cop shit for it (you're supposed to request in the myspleen thread).

ANYWAY, had a chance to skim through this and its amazing. Thank you so much, guys, for making and sharing this wonder.

I was especially grateful that the pop-up menu options are all presented within the 2.35:1 frame since that is the shape of the projector screen I watch such material on (and since the audio cannot be changed on the fly).

I know I've asked before, but I can't help but do so again while the project is still fresh and the materials (hopefully) still accessible to you wizards:

Any chance of getting a updated restored soundtrack that we could sync to the European version? I very much appreciate both cuts of the film.

My humble thanks, either way.

I will continue to seed this at myspleen until my seedbox provider realises that I should've paid my renewal fee a week ago...

Lovely

I noticed that. But on the upside, the black levels and the gamma are much improved.

At any rate, it is director-approved and remedies what was a fairly murky viewing experience (on my projection set up, at least).

Things I remember are: lots of OCR errors where a lowercase L was confused with an I and that sort of thing (not visible when rendered in a typical sans-serif font, but still)

I noticed the lower case "l"/upper case "I" thing when I took a quick look at the sub file. I think the substitution only occurs when the subs are presented in italics and was likely intentional for aesthetic reasons.

Okay, I muxed together the audio and subtitle file with the Japanese BD's video stream in TSMuxer and they match up perfectly. Great work, Matt!

I then threw that into Clown BD and was able to re-author it with forced subtitles. Just to make sure nothing funny had happened, I replaced Clown's a/v stream with the original TSMuxer one. The subs still came on automatically.

I've uploaded Clown BD's file structure for anyone who wishes to use it. Simply paste TSMuxer's "00000.m2ts" file into the BDMV>STREAM folder and you'll have forced subtitles.

This also incorporates the chapter list from the Japanese BD.

Thanks again, Matt!

Hmmm. Some fella over at the blu-ray.com forums posted screens from the Aussie version of some of the notorious problem shots. Perhaps you could tell from these whether or not they correlate with any other source out there?

Gents (and ladies) I would love to share the subtitles and audio. Question is, how?

What would you all recommend? What's the best way?

Spleen?

I would think that you could certainly share your entire custom BD with the tweaked image there. I only have a few Spleen invites, but how many would be willing to download an entire BD? They may suffice.

Failing that, you could always use a public tracker. Whether or not you make the torrent file publicly available would be up to you.
