Info: Our projects released thread

The French BD doesn't seem to suffer the same overzealous noise reduction that all but destroys the Anchor Bay and Arrow versions. It isn't stretched, either, but rather the Anchor Bay release is squashed to 1.85:1.

If you take a look at the comparison here, there's some serious clipping going on in the Scream version:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews50/day_of_the_dead_blu-ray.htm

I've tried ordering the French BD before, but Amazon.fr won't ship to my destination.

Star Wars 1977 releases on 35mm

In country areas there were only 2 television stations in the 1980s. Stuff just got shown over and over. Even the capital cities only had 4 TV stations at the time, and cable didn't exist.

So yeah, I saw it multiple times on the telly, I think it was shown way more than twice.

Being a fellow Aussie and recalling having also seen the Holiday Special on TV in the early 80's, I thought I'd see if you could corroborate another distant SW memory of mine, poita?

I recall seeing an Aussie television broadcast of STAR WARS in the early-mid 80's (possibly simulcast in stereo on an FM station) that had the words 'MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU' super-imposed in white on the bottom of the screen during the final shot of the movie, before the wipe to the credits.

Do you ever recall such a thing?

No luck with Jdownloader (which installed a virus/malware on my pc), either.

Let me guess: During installation, you just kept clicking next without reading each dialog, right?

I'm pretty sure he downloaded it from one of those fake websites, like this one: www.jdownloader.com <-- DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM HERE

I'm pretty sure I didn't. I've been getting JDownloader from their official site for about 6 years now.

But stranger things have happened. Anyone willing to go to JDownloader.org and give it a shot? I'll happily accept their findings.

Did you also click "Decline" in that one dialog?

I'm almost certain I did.

Infact, I re-installed the program a second time, assuming I had made such a mistake, and shit still went crazy!

I guess the only other explanation is that I didn't managed to wipe everything properly after the first time around.

So those of you that have not commented yet do you like this release?

Watched it the other night (120" JVC projector set up) and it looked amazing. I can't believe how much you were able to salvage and can't thank you guys enough for doing so and for sharing it with others.

Now I have the lamentable (yet honorable) task of burning off half-a-dozen or more copies and mailing them to friends around the world...

Not at all. I did the custom install and disabled the search bar option. My virus killer threw up an alert, so I quarantined that but I still got served a healthy helping of malware.

I've never had any issues like that with JDownloader. Are you sure you downloaded it from the official website, and not one of those scam sites?

I downloaded it from jdownloader.org. I had never had a problem getting it from there before but it really did a number on my PC this time, installing multiple malware.

Yeah, sadly I cannot recommend paying for an account with the unnamed file host. I've had nothing but trouble in my efforts to get this disc.

I thought I'd just completed downloading all the files, manually, only to discover that about a dozen of them are undersized.

Download speeds for each file seem limited to about 150KB/s. After a while, many will settle down as low as 10KB/s.

No luck with Jdownloader (which installed a virus/malware on my pc), either. It keeps dropping connections.

Its possible that there's a problem on my end but if so, its one that has only reared its ugly head since I embarked on this particular downloading odyssey.

Again, if you have a success story, please share it, as I'd hate to think that I was putting people off due to my own incompetence.

I'm using a temporary premium account and having success.  I have around 8 parts left to download for Conan EE and just started this morning.   Don't use the download manager.  I'm using chrome browser and downloading 5 at a time.

Thanks, djchaseb.

I guess I'll do the same and download them manually, then.

Good thing I went for the month-long subscription, as I definitely woulda  missed out with the 48 hour option.

Is anyone gonna make and share a torrent of this? I'd love to, but my upload is limited to 100KB/s max. Still, I'd be willing to help seed once I have the whole thing.

I hate to think how many of us will potentially pay good money to the hosting site just to grab this.

I would've preferred that my funds went back into the community somehow or, at the very least, towards boosting my newsgroup account.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Behodar said:

Some time ago (and naturally I can't find it now) there was a discussion about the ® symbol on the Fox logo appearing earlier than the rest of the logo in 2.1, and I think Harmy said that he had to reconstruct that himself.

I discovered last night that one of my old Fox Blu-rays has the same logo as Star Wars, complete with the ® (still appearing before the rest of the logo, but done officially rather than being a reconstruction). The discussion was a while ago, but does anyone need a copy of that logo, or has it already been sorted out for 2.5?

Harmy used the Fox logo from the ALIEN blu ray for 2.1 - I dunno if it needed/needs tweaking, however.

Yeah, what is with that? Someone in the Star Wars thread said that the official Blu Ray mastering is poor, but actual missing frames?

I assume (without watching the video) that is where OT footage was discarded and SE footage was incorporated in its place. Therefore, Harmy has had to recreate the missing footage.

C3PO's highlights look a bit blown out after Luke and Leia's smooch. I have "Superwhite" enabled on my JVC projector so it shouldn't clip any graduation in brightness beyond 235.

Other than that (and the Obi Wan matte), it looks quite pleasing, compression artifacts aside. Thanks for sharing, Harmy.

And I love that you're attempting to reproduce the original compositing.

If the sources are the same fps, and they go out of sync (assuming its not a capture error), would it be reasonable to assume that differences (ie. extra frames) occur at the reel changes? You could trim at those points without negatively affecting the audio since there should be no carry-over music, dialogue or effects from one reel to another.
