He’s trying the title on for size. I’m not sure anyone has ever had a problem with that line.

The CinemaSins video for ESB actually reminded me of it, it points out that moment too.

Most of the complaints are made in jest but I feel like he’s making a fair point when he says Luke immediately went “right into the acceptance phase of that shocker.”

Don’t think this was ever mentioned, and this might be an unpopular suggestion as it has to do with ESB’s dialogue rather than visuals, but here goes. I always thought it was really odd that after he’s been rescued by Leia and Lando, moments after Vader reveals himself to be Luke’s father, Luke responds to Vader’s telepathic communication by saying, “Father?”

Wouldn’t the reveal be such a shock to him that he’d be in denial for at least a short while? Especially since a year later, in ROTJ, he’s still in disbelief when he asks Yoda if it’s true that Vader is his dad. That moment in ESB always just rang false to me. I feel like if he wordlessly acknowledged Vader calling to him and just have his first line in the scene be “Ben, why didn’t you tell me?,” that scene would work a lot more naturally and emotionally true.

But cutting dialogue from what is arguably the best movie of the OT is a touchy subject and I’d totally understand if Ady doesn’t want to go there.

While I am truly very impressed, I'm just curious, wouldn't CGI have been sufficient and easier for this sort of thing?  Not trying to knock the cast, as it truly is amazing!

I'd imagine tracking a CG chest without it "hovering" above the original shot would be a nightmare. And an all-CG shot would stand out too much, I think.

I always figured that Vader was on his kneeling holo circle that he was on when speaking to the Emperor (ie Veers is projected in much the same way when speaking to Vader).  Thinking about that, it looks like Vader is on one knee, as you can only see his left foot, which can only be bent at the knee due to how short the distance between his foot and his hip is:

I highly doubt that Vader is kneeling because Vader in Ady's refilmed shot is standing up yet matches the proportions of the old shot. Also, why would Vader ever kneel before Veers?

any chance of someone encoding this in AVCHD so it would fit on a dual layer DVD like Adywan's ESB '97 HD release? Obviously I'd rather have it on a 25GB blu-ray but I don't have a blu-ray burner. Thanks in advance if anyone at least considers this. :)

Yes please.

I seem to remember reading somewhere (almost certain I didn't dream it) that for the PT Ady will be zooming a lot of effects shots to tighten the focus.

Any particular shots in mind? And why do they need tightened focus, exactly?

Amazing clip by the way, Ady!

I thought the TIEs were going back to being grey?

I thought so too, I recall Ady settling on grey the last time this debate happened, so why the switch back?

I wish every time I see R2-D2 that his red eye was indeed red. It seems like (in any edit) its always some shade of purple or pink or even a light red instead a vibrant brilliant red. R2-D2 red eye in the Puggo example looks more like what I hope to see in any edit.

Agreed, and it also seems like R2 has a purplish light at times when it should be blue. ANH:R had the perfect balance of red and blue for R2's light, I hope it'll be similar in ESB:R.

I haven't seen this brought up yet so I thought I'd chime in.

Vader only refers to Boba Fett as "bounty hunter", which then seems odd after Fett's character is built up due to popularity.

Any chance that Vader could refer to him by name?

With all due respect, that would be pointless. The movies should not be tailored simply to provide fan service for popular characters.

I must say I prefer Vaders helmet moving than the weird effect of the head of Darth Vader now... It looks like a cardboard head, like that scene of Bruce Lee
http://youtu.be/1bAdMrMxMm0?t=1m1s

Yeah I noticed that too, it does look slightly jarring. It's only really noticeable during the "You can destroy the Emperor, he has foreseen this" line, it looks more convincing during the other lines where Ady has manipulated the helmet. Also, has anyone else noticed that the shot where Luke hits Vader's shoulder (right before Luke's hand is cut off) looks a bit soft, as if it is of lower quality than the rest of the footage? Or is that just me? Everything else is excellent though!

adywan, I also meant to ask about this shot from the 'chasm' duel scene too -  Is it possible to add a momentary effect of 'fabric burning' and brief hint of 'smoking cauterization' to Luke's sleeve/severed wrist here, somewhat like was seen on your ANH:R 'arm'?...

Good call. Also, Luke's saber shouldn't be transparent as it is in the pic above.

ESB:R will be a mixture of HDTV and Blu-Ray sources, with the Blu-Ray being the main source for the edit. I'm just completing transferring the colour correction to the Blu-Ray and then i'll be reapplying the FX work to the sections that are using the new source.

This is probably a dumb question, but what is the advantage of using the Blu-Ray as the main source rather than the HDTV source? Is the Blu-Ray better quality/higher resolution?

I completely missed the three eyed lizard.

Nice Touch Ady. Makes it look more 'Alien'

Haven't noticed that either, great detail!

Ady, have you considered straightening out Vader's position right before he's decapitated? As it is, his stance is unnaturally slanted, so it's kinda obvious that it's just a dummy.

Also, some shots of the Falcon (the ones from the original film, not your new CG shots) have some really jagged edges, such as this one:

Will you be replacing this shot with the new CG model? Or maybe just blur the edges a bit to make them less jagged? If this is an unfinished shot, sorry for bringing it up. :P
