Info Wanted: OT Definitive Collection on DVD?
Time

You are of course speaking of the original dolby stereo 35mm mix only on the first issue VHS rental tape and the CAV pan and scan analog audio only not digital release Laserdisc from 1985.

As far as i am aware.  I do believe Dark jedi captured the audio and is including it in his gout restoration of star wars, known today as Episode IV.  But i just call it star wars.

Out of curiosity and I apologize for getting a bit off-topic but has there ever been a preservation/transfer of that first issue VHS rental tape: both video and audio? I can't seem to find a thread about a transfer of it.

Hey none, thanks for fixing the Catnap screenshots. I've been watching the MeBeJedi bootleg and was wondering if it had been firmly established that Tarkin's line during the Death Star conference ("We will crush the rebellion once and for all") was only cut off because of a reel change. Forgive me if this is common knowledge but I was watching Moth3r's telecine and noticed that the line does happen near a reel change.

I haven't gotten a chance to compare all the various bootlegs. Are there any other missing lines (which may or may not be the result of reel changes) in any of them?

While watching Moth3r's widescreen telecine, I noticed the PG rating card at the end. Did anyone else notice that the song playing over the credits still is fading out over the rating card? Just a random observation. Does the music end abruptly in any of the home video releases or is the fade out of the credits music just playing over a black screen?

EDIT: none, these two threads (here and here) briefly discuss the Starkiller bootleg. Can you add these links to your first post? I'm somewhat surprised that I can't seem to find a thread solely dedicated to the Starkiller releases: both his full screen telecine and the 1982 VHS rental.

EDIT: EDIT: Oh and I was just surfing the threads and I noticed this post in which Molto claims to have a 1979 bootleg sourced from an airline print. Is this the same as the MeBeJedi or Starkiller? Has anyone followed up on this? Unfortunately, it appears that he hasn't logged in since 2007.

Info Wanted: Best edits of Ep 2 and 3?

It's not about disguising, it's about not taking you out of the movie.  Even in the credits.

Agreed. I think it best when the faneditor's credit blends reasonable with the rest of the credits rather than sticking out like a sore thumb. Also, Posessed, can you use the real Attack of the Clones crawl or your own custom one instead of the "I am not a bootlegger" crawl? It might have been necessary to emphasize back then but now it takes you out of the movie and sticks out like a sore thumb. It's like an edit of ROTJ I watched that had Family Guy playing at the beginning; though in all honesty I still liked the edit...but I digress...

None, I looked over your screen capture guides. Thanks for the hard work! It's good to have shots that can readily be compared. Unfortunately while looking through the guides, I noticed that when you try to double click on specific screenshots of the Catnap, I get a 404.

I also got a chance to look at some of the leads you found on the other page and hopefully we can contact some of them, though some of the posts' ages make it unlikely.

Weekly Summaries of ESB: Revisited
Time

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to summarize, on a weekly basis, what progress was made and what ideas were shared for ESB: Revisited or any of Adywan's Revisited edits for that matter? It seems to be originaltrilogy.com's most prolific thread, and, after 876 pages, it is easy to forget what happened and what decisions have been made. Perhaps someone could summarize at the end of each week what was discussed and conclusions reached so that way it is easy to keep track of all discussions within the thread and not inadvertently start discussing things already discussed. The summaries would make everything more orderly.

I'm interested to hear what everyone else thinks. Feel free to disagree.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

I want to know what you all think of this, if it is even worth to convert this file to NTSC and loose the extra lines of resolution? Should we do anything with it? just release it as it is, with the subtitle stream, or should we wait and see if we could get a better source for this?

My vote is a conversion to NTSC. Judging by the screenshot, the slight loss of resolution wouldn't be noticeable. I also don't particularly think it is a good idea to wait for a better source unless there are very good odds of it appearing. It's best to release what you have now. If a better source miraculously appears down the road, then that can be released as well.

Info Wanted: New To Preservations... which OT preservations are the best?

I'm kind of new here and still reading through forums playing catch up. In reading this thread I'm left wondering... What is wrong with the GOUT version of ESB that make's Ady's reconstruction so essential? Seems like people are happy with the ANH and soon to be released ROTJ GOUT, but not the ESB one.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with Dark Jedi's ESB GOUT (especially the upcoming V3), but Adywan's reconstruction is very good and high quality. Adywan used an AVCHD source and combined it with GOUT footage, creating a very high quality reconstruction. Adywan only did ESB and not the other ones, so that is why the Dark Jedi GOUT is recommended instead.

To me that "Look sir, droids" shot just looks like it could be color corrected 2004 DVD footage, nice nevertheless. Thanks for sharing, Zion. Hope you locate the other one.

After looking at those screen caps, I agree that it does look like it could be a 2004 release which was color corrected. Though, admittedly, I am tired and perhaps overly paranoid. Either way, it's a nice change from the GOUT and I like the color timing.

Info Wanted: Anamorphic GOUTs? I have SW, anyone done ESB & ROTJ?
Time

Alternatively, you could always look into Adywan's ESB recreation and Harmy's ROTJ recreation. Though be warned, these are recreations and not a strict conversion of the GOUT. Furthermore, if you are really eager to have anamorphic GOUTs then you can easily convert it yourself with DVD Rebuilder and still keep the original menus and audio tracks.

At some point soon (probably in a couple weeks), I'll try to see if I can't upload ANH to a.b.sw.

Wow; I just watched the "Look Sir, Droids" clip and was completely blown away. The GOUT pales in comparison. It would be truly unfortunate if the Mos Eisley shot would be lost since it does look awful in the GOUT. Anyways, a raw XO capture would be magnificent.

Also, is there any chance of ANH eventually hitting the torrents or rapidshare? I'm just curious since I don't have newsgroup access.

...color me surprised... ¬_¬

Wow..that's awful..I can't believe they would put that in a trailer encouraging people to get the set. Hopefully, the footage is just from the 2004 release and not from the set..after all, I didn't see any new tweaks in the trailer. Although considering our past experiences with Star Wars releases...

Stjärnornas Krig - Swedish 16mm print (Released)
Time

I just received the disc and luckily was able to look over it. The picture is surprisingly good for something which was not a full on project and better than I expected. There weren't nearly as much dust or artifacts as I expected. Of course, the Puggo Grande is still better. As for the audio, it's the same as the Puggo Grande, isn't it? It seemed the same. I also saw the Maniac...jeez... Do you have any idea who made it? It's really odd; I can't imagine why it was labeled Star Wars. Being a slasher movie fan also, it looks like they tried to make a little fan film. Well, I guess the era of the OT was also the era of the rise of the slasher movie genre. Finally, I did see your making of documentary and enjoyed it. It's always nice to get a little explanation behind the technical work of the DVD. All in all, the Stjarnornas Krig disc is a fun addition to the growing number of Star Wars preservations, and the subtitles are not distracting.

Out of curiosity and forgive me if this has been discussed before but has anyone tried using the black magic-like software to combine the GOUT and the Japanese Definitive Collection, thereby reducing the GOUT's horrid DVNR? Alternatively, could the GOUT, XO, and Japanese Definitive Collection be combined with this software to make the best image?

Info: The Criterion Laserdisc Preservation Thread

Is there something of interest on the Blade Runner laserdisc vs. the dvd? I may have 1 or 2 different ld rips on dvd somewhere.

No; there's not really anything particularly significant about it. I just want a copy because I'm a big Blade Runner fan and want to see it, along with the Criterion laserdisc's special features. I used to have a copy of the laserdisc but lost it a few years ago. I'm also particularly interested in seeing if there is any color timing differences since it is probably a different source than the Blu-Ray/DVD. Do any of the LD rips you have contain the special features? Anyway, if you still have one, special features or not, I would be interested in a copy so can you shoot me a PM.
