You're completely right rockin. I agree with ROTS being a mixture, while AOTC is so saturated. A good color correction might make Palpatine look better.

I agree with Dark Jedi and Harmy. For a bare bones release, the GOUT menus were pretty good and it was annoying that they were anamorphic while the main film wasn't. I mean, jeez, if we can make a quick anamorphic conversion at home with programs like DVD-Rebuilder, it's a shame that Lucas didn't do the same and just make the thing anamorphic... guess he really wanted to make the GOUT intentionally bad..

Wow Lee! Those colors look fantastic! They're so vibrant and completely unlike the monochromatic (in comparison) GOUT! I think you've hit the correct grade :-)

Perhaps the reel with most Mos Eisley scenes faded to pink... Maybe the people who did the restoration thought that was the natural color.

EDIT: Also, is the 1997 V2 exclusive to donators like the JSC V2 or will it eventually be released on Newsgroups, torrents, etc?

Out of curiosity, where did you get the score only tracks for ANH and ROTJ? Are they from the Editdroid disc, Classic Editions, etc?

Here's a few random ideas. Forgive me if they've been mentioned and feel free to hate them (-:

1. Have Obi-Wan use the force to go back in time to save Qui-Gon, while this music plays. Then, show that Qui-Gon just died again.
2. Have this music play whenever the battle droids appear.
3. Add in a few Terminators among the Battle Droids.
4. Have "The Power of Love" play when Anakin meets Padme.
5. Have "If You Leave" or "Don't You Forget About Me" play when Anakin says goodbye to Padme since he's joining the Jedi Order.
6. Use some Samuel Jackson lines from other movies. Kinda like this guy did for Episode III.
7. Throw in some Indiana Jones music during the Pod Race.

What can I say? I'm stuck in the 80's.

This sounds interesting. I'm glad that you're not going to apply contrast to the point of crushed blacks. I also love your decision to do the binary sunset manually, as I think that probably would be the scene in most need of individual correction. I'm just curious and don't take this as me rushing you, but what is your preliminary release date of ANH?

Darth Mallwalker, your comparison should prove very handy in determining the masters of each release. I, for one, am interested, so don't go "Jedi-Traying" on me. ;-)

However, (a bit off topic) on a.b.starwars, it says that each Dark-Sega Movie is only around 1023.97 mb. Are these the full DVDs or just AVIs? I'm confused.

I actually think it was just a way to showcase some "cool" (in Lucas's opinion) aliens. In From Star Wars to Jedi, you can hear Lucas talking about how with high production values and more experience, he could have made a much better ANH; well, we know where that went... Anyway, I think that Lucas may have subconsciously tried to make ROTJ a better ANH by relying on more effects. For example, they have many parallels. ROTJ and ANH both feature a grand battle with a Death Star blowing up. In both, there is a lightsaber battle. They contain Luke experiencing a revelation early in the film as opposed to later like in ESB. In ANH, Luke learns his father was a Jedi; in ROTJ, he realizes Leia is his sister. In my opinion, this Max Rebo sequence was George Lucas's way of trying to improve on the cantina scene (which he expresses dissatisfaction about). The problem is that the Max Rebo sequence is completely unessential and not just in the background like it should be.

A Return of the Jedi 16mm scope print popped up a few days ago on eBay and was sold. The colors looked pretty good. The listing is right here. None of you are the winner Celluloid 16, right?
