Info: 1997 SE DV Broadcast Info & Discussion
Time

I too have thought about the idea, but I was thinking that the GOUT should be color timed to match the 1997 SE (minus the pink Mos Eisley of course). After all, the GOUT is a very desaturated source, as discussed in other threads. On the other hand, the 1997 SE's color timing was based on Lucas's personal print (probably with fantastic colors). In my opinion, the 97 SE has great color; though, since I grew up with it, I'm probably biased. It seems much more colorful and natural than other versions.

Info Wanted: Pre-'93 Japanese Special Collection LD transfers?
Time

Asaki, did you ever get the 1992 Letterbox VHS set? I have a copy in storage and was wondering if it was worth it to pull it out.

Also, forgive me for not being the best at knowing the laserdisc releases, but does the "Special Widescreen Edition" collection use the Definitive Collection master or the JSC master? I know that ANH is the JSC master (with the shrinking ratio error though Darth Mallwalker seems to have found a fixed version); however, are ESB and ROTJ also sourced from the JSC masters?

...now I get a lot of PM's for offers, all I can think of is this, where were you guys back when I started to take them LOL...

I actually had not yet joined the forum...Anyway when I first contacted you at the beginning of February you were still accepting donations, but just 10 days later, when I had the money to buy Verbatims because of my birthday, I could no longer donate...

However, reading the last few posts, I'm admittedly confused: Is the 1997 V2 set going to be a strictly bonus set? Anyways, after reading your recent posts, DJ, I'll be glad with whatever I manage to get, so keep up the good work ok these releases. :)

Also, to everyone who recommended that I buy a dual-layer burner, I had no idea they were going for so cheap; I'll definitely look into getting one.

EDIT: Oh by the way is there other way to get DJ's 1st JSC set other than newsgroups? I'd be eternally grateful if some kind soul could upload to Megaipload or a torrent. I've been looking for this a long time as you can tell by my signature.

Ah well... I suppose Megaupload and a torrent for the V3 would be great. Since I neither want to go through the DVDShrink or DVD Rebuilder route, I suppose I'll just have to borrow my friend's burner unless some kind soul on the forum will be willing to send me a copy when the testing phase of the discs are over (of course with me providing shipping and blank media). I do confess myself rather disappointed that the bonus sets (JSC2 and SE) will remain exclusive to the first Verbatim donators... However, it is your sets, and I do respect your decisions to release them. DJ, if you ever change your mind about accepting new donations, just shoot me a PM and I will gladly donate.

I'm pretty sure that at least GOUT v.3 will be torrented, at least I hope so.

I know, but if possible, I'd like someone to send me a copy (with me either donating or paying shipping costs) because, if I download it on my own, I'll need to borrow a dual-layer burner from my friend in order to burn the GOUT V3 discs. I'd rather just donate directly to DJ and get sent the discs, but thanks for telling me this LexX.

ESB 70mm Soundtrack - 1980 in-theatre recording (Released)
Time

Wow! This is an awesome find, morgaands1! Glad you had this. At last, we have a definitive way of checking about the 70mm audio differences in ESB. Perhaps this makes a reconstruction of the 70mm version an easier thing to make! Now that would be a great project and all thanks to you. Anyway, one last thing, shouldn't this be in the Star Wars Preservation section, as you basically shared/preserved your audio recording of the 70mm ESB.

Wow! I love those screen shots from the Technicolor Reproduction Project! Finally, I can watch an original version of Star Wars with a more proper saturation level. Out of curiosity, are you just going to use the plain, unrefined GOUT as the base, and, if you do, will you filter/enhance it, aside from the color? Alternatively, are you going to use G-Force's script, the LFL Pwnage, or DJ's V3?

dark_jedi did you get my pm?

Yes I did, along with several others from other members, I am still undecided, but leaning towards no, I am just about finished now and don't really think I need any more blank DL's.

I also sent a PM. Does this mean that there will be absolutely no way for those without newsgroup access who have not yet donated to get the Japanese Special Collection 2 set? I can understand if you don't need anymore blank DL's, but is there something else we can donate other than blank DVDs in exchange for becoming testers? I only ask because I have no newsgroup access (so I can't even get the GOUT V3 and the 1997 V2 when they hit online), no effective dual layer burner (I'll need to borrow one from a friend), and am willing to donate. Sorry for sounding so inquisitive, but I frankly think these sets are fantastic and curious to see all of them.

The Empire Strikes Back - The Vintage Edit (Released)
Time

Sorry for bumping an old thread but does anyone still have the histograms to this? All the links are dead. I'm just interested to see how the histogram will turn out since the screenshots look nice. I'm curious to see a 2004 DVD with better coloring. Also, will these work if simply inputted into DVD Rebuilder's AVS Filter Editor? If not, how would you go about using them?Sorry but I'm not nearly as good at tech as most of the forum members are so if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Greetings, total forum Noob here, trying to figure "bestest" OOT version...
Time

I think that you should start with the V3 GOUT. It certainly will be the most accurate release. However, if you have a heavy issue with DVNR, I would suggest Dark Jedi's V2 of the Japanese Special Collection (the "Bonus" set mentioned in the V3 thread). Lastly, if you want reconstructions (and don't mind crushed blacks shown in the 2004 DVDs), then I'd recommend OCPMovie's Star Wars: Classic Edition Reconstruction (can't think of any other one), Adywan's ESB Reconstruction, and Harmy's ROTJ Reconstruction.

GOUT, Automated Theatrical Colouring, and a Reference Guide
Time

I like the look of some of the trailers; though, it probably isn't truly what it looked like in theaters (i.e. not fully color timed yet). Though, I honestly find myself disliking the blue throne room and preferring the color of the trailer. It's probably because it looks more natural. Anyways, I think that this just proves how desaturated the GOUT is. It really is too bad that we don't have a definitive source to base a color correction on; though, I think that the recently released ESB bootleg and the Senator Theater screen shots come pretty close.  It seems to me that Star Wars should look saturated, vibrant, and colorful as originally suggested. In fact, I sometimes prefer the color of the 1997 SE myself (minus the pink tint errors in ANH), as they were supposedly timed from the reference of Lucas's print. Ah well... more GOUT blues...

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

Didn't he mention to Obi-Wan in AOTC how the JC wouldn't believe him?

And if not, just take some dialogue from another film(if applicable) and tie it into there suggesting it.

You could certainly have Dooku in TPM at some point. Maybe at Qui-Gon's funeral? Maybe in the JC scenes?

Those are doable because there's little camera movement in the JC scenes.

I still like the Dooku as maverick jedi but not sith idea. He leaves the jedi order. He's a part of the lost 20. The lost 20 are all jedi who have left the order recently and mysteriously vanished.

Then a separatist movement pops up led by someone the republic people name Tyranus.

Kenobi later finds out Tyranus is really Dooku, who discovered the sith infiltrated the republic at the highest levels. Dooku believes the republic is now too corrupt. He wants to "start over". The other Lost 20 have joined Dooku.

So Kenobi realizes he has been fighting for the bad guys against the good guys all along.

But not yet. The republic arrives and blows the crap out of Geonosis. Dooku escapes, but not the other Lost 20.

Palpatine is upset that so many jedi have betrayed the republic. He orders Anakin to take over the JC, bring Dooku to justice, and the Jedi Order to be put under his direct control.

Iris Out....onto ROTS.

WOW! That would be awesome! I definitely agree with the part about Dooku not being a Sith. He should only be a maverick...perhaps the start of the Rebel Alliance of the OT... Although if someone goes with that idea, his lightsaber may need to be rotoscoped blue, yellow, green, or purple. I personally think green would be ideal as it kind of foretells that the old jedi order will fall and a new one will rise (Luke's).
