Idea: So how come no one has made a less-painful fan edit of the Star Wars Holiday Special?
Time

Sluggo said:

I'm saving up for a new computer.  I've been thinking about this idea more and more and this may be my first attempt at an edit.

But I don't want to jinx myself, so maybe I'll be quiet about it for now.

Sounds interesting... I've always wanted an actually watchable version of the Holiday Special. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Star Wars Trilogy: Hyperspace Collection - 720p AVCHD Project Complete and Now Available! See Post 42 for final details!
Time

Wow! Looks like quite an interesting project, OmegaMattman. The screen shots look quite nice, and I love the cover art. This HD conversion of the GOUT sounds fascinating. As for color correction, I'm glad that you color corrected the opening crawl separately, as its color is, as you mentioned, distinctly different from the rest of the movie.

Unfortunately, I'm running low on blank media right now and cannot test this.. However, I would suggest using Hairy Hen's 5.1 70mm reconstruction audio for this. The 5.1 mix is already set up to sync with the GOUT, so there's no problem there. It's very good and has been used in several projects.

Glad to hear that the raw captures are being made available for all projects to use. I can't wait to see what people will start doing with the material.

Not to get off-topic, but for those interested in the JSC, such as OmegaMattman, Arnie.d. has raw captures (not yet IVTC'd) from an X9 player and is willing to give them to anyone who will finish the project...

I'm seeding what I have of the 'Noid torrent at the moment via my seedbox, which is CD3 and CD4. CD1 and CD2 are slowly downloading and should be seeding within 24hrs. I won't seed forever though, let me know when you're done. :)

Thanks a billion, klokwerk! I'll tell you when I'm done. It's downloading at a pretty fast speed so it shouldn't be long.

Doctor Who: The Enemy Within - The TV Movie Recut [PROJECT DEAD]
Time

Interesting.. I don't think people will particularly mind slightly different lengths. in any case, that cliffhanger sounds great! It's always great to get to the 8th Doctor fast, as the story is really about him so the 7th shouldn't dominate it.

Is the 7th Doctor still going to be killed by the botched operation? Deep down, I was hoping by some miracle you could make it appear as if the snake killed him, making him die a slow death by poisoning... However, this probably isn't possible...

What is your favorite versions of the following movies: Apocalypse Now, Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner and Terminator 2?
Time

Hello everyone! I'm just curious to see which cuts people like of these films which have various cuts floating about. These are some of my favorite movies, so I'm curious to hear the opinions of everyone hear at originaltrilogy.com on them. Here are what you have to choose from:

The Choices of Cuts:

Apocalypse Now- 1979 Theatrical, Redux, or the Workprint

Alien- Theatrical or "Director's"

Aliens- Theatrical or Special Edition

Blade Runner- the Workprint, 1982 US Theatrical, 1982 International Theatrical, the Director's Cut, and the Final Cut

Terminator 2- Theatrical, Special Edition, or Hidden (ultra-extended) cut

When you answer about your favorite cuts, can you please clearly tell your favorite cut and briefly explain why.

My Choices

Apocalypse Now- 1979 Theatrical; I didn't particularly like the extra material in Redux and thought that it was mostly extraneous. The French dinner completely broke the pacing and mood of the movie, pulling the film to a hold. Additionally, the Playboy scene made the characters seem less sympathetic. The added stops in the journey destroyed the feel of isolation as the crew could easily stop at places. Most of all, I really despised the scene where Kurtz's face was seen in full view, as it ruined the mystery about him. As for the workprint, I don't like it much for the same reasons; however, I do miss Apocalypse Pooh.

Alien- I like the theatrical simply because it was perfect and suspenseful. The director's cut didn't add anything really bad or good.

Aliens- I like the theatrical because all the added scenes of the Special Edition interrupt the pacing of the movie. The movie becomes more bloated in the Special Edition and it starts dragging. The sense of fast pacing and rising terror with Aliens is replaced by more interesting, albeit extraneous exposition.

Blade Runner- The workprint seems by far the best version of Blade Runner. Though "noir"-ish, the narration of the theatrical cuts seems to give too much information and leaves not much for the audience to guess. The Director's Cut and the Final Cut are interesting but Deckard should not be a replicant! It undermines the man vs machine themes of Blade Runner and kills the original "dream/unique Rachel" meaning of the origami unicorn.

Terminator 2- My favorite cut is the Special Edition. Though a bit superfluous at time, the added scenes don't interrupt the pacing too badly. Also, they give pretty interesting information and add a lot of depth to the story.

So that's my choices. I'd love to hear yours! If you'd like a movie to be added to this thread, simply suggest it and I'll add it to the thread title and this initial post.

Klokwerk, it's nice to see that someone is interested in this also. I'm curious about the question you asked as well: has the SubCin been uploaded to a torrent or rapidshare/megaupload? If it's a torrent, I'd be willing to seed it... Anyway, please PM me with information about this if it becomes available online.

As for the 4CD Xvid that Klokwerk and I have, no one has answered my question; is it different from the SubCin version in terms of footage. Is the Subcin longer than it? Speaking of that, Klokwerk or anyone else with this, can anyone seed the torrent once more so I can download this version again? I reauthored it into a DVD and foolishly deleted the master AVI files. Now I've found that the DVD has out-of-sync audio, so I'd like to get the AVI files again..

Idea: Star Wars Trilogy All in One Edit
Time

Hmm sounds like a interesting take on the whole OT we know and love. In fact, I myself was thinking about how radically different a Star Wars sequel could be. In any case, I'll be interested to see this when it comes out. Anyways, are you using the Original Unaltered Trilogy as basis or the Special Edition? I mean I guess I could appreciate either way as this is somewhat like Lucas's original vision, and he claims that the SE is his vision. However, the Unaltered is obviously better... :)

Wow this edit looks like it'll be fantastic Chainsaw Ash! I'm glad that you're going to break it into parts just like the format of the original series. I always thought that the TV Movie had great potential; it just needed some altering. I bet you're take on it will make it far less cringe-worthy. By the way, I love the new opening credits: a great blend of old series and new series!

The Empire Strikes Back Panic Attack Cut
Time

I only knew about Star Wars: the Lost Cut! This sounds interesting... I can imagine ESB having a lot less emotional depth. Sorry for bumping an old thread but has any more information been discovered about this? I'd be fascinated with a reconstruction. Like TheBoost, I can imagine more action scenes and much less romance/talking. Perhaps more training on Dagobah.

Does anyone have a shooting schedule for ESB? It might help to know what scenes were already shot when this edit was made.

Yeah! That was the dialogue! However, I saw the clip on the link you provided. I remember something finished. It looked exactly like the scene in the 97 SE but didn't have the added guy walking through the frame to cut the line. I was sure that there was some sort of DVD or VHS where I watched it on. However, the memory does lie. That's a fact and something I've personally experienced.
