STAR WARS V8 - A Final Attempt (Released)
Time

Watched the V8. It's nice seeing the unaltered ANH with no DVNR smearing. However, to be fair, you're met with a picture less clear and with less accurate colors than the GOUT. The V8 kinda makes me nostalgic. It reminds me of the amazement I felt when I found a 1985 VHS of the original Star Wars and watched it so much. I was just a kid back then and was surprised at it being different than the 1997 versions. The V8's color timing is the same... looks to be the same transfer. Thanks for uploading Asaki. I'll seed as long as I can.

THE MEMORY CHEATS

Sadly it does. Need I refer to the grappling hook?

However, strangely I seem to remember extra dialog for the pre-Death Star battle Biggs scene. The older pilot mentioned that Luke's father was a great pilot and if Luke was half as good as he was, Luke would be all right. It may not necessarily have been in any version of the movie. Was this ever in some documentary that I may have watched? I distinctly remember thinking "that guy knew Anakin?" Anyway, perhaps I just imagined it, as I imagined a radically different version of the movie Hellboy but I digress...

Pacing, I guess...

Yeah, I think that's probably why. Even though Lucas's main reason was to not make Star Wars like American Graffiti in space, the scenes don't really work out when in the movie. Luke's character seems much less admirable and more irritating... Pacing is probably why the pre-Death Star battle meeting between Biggs and Luke was cut in the theatrical version. It somewhat ruins the grim atmosphere before the battle (i.e. Ben dead, Han leaving, Leia not that hopeful) by having a friendly meeting between two old friends.

Help: looking for... 'Army of Darkness' and other Various Cuts

I currently do not have a good VHS to DVD setup.  I also have a VHS dub of the  Japanese LD version of Army of Darkness.  Someone must have transfer that LD version to DVD properly.

If you eventually do get a good VHS to DVD setup going, I'd be very interested in both a copy of the TV cut and that VHS dub you have of the Japanese LD. I'm a big Evil Dead fan, as you can tell by my signature and avatar, so these sound interesting. You're right; someone should transfer that Japanese LD version. I've never seen it but from what I've heard it is interesting indeed.

I have a master VHS recording of SciFi's Army of Darkness.  I'm certain there are better copies out there.

Like Dark Jedi, I'm not so clear what you are saying. Do you mean that it's not a VHS dupe and is first generation? Even though there may be better copies out there, I'd love a transfer of this; it's better than having nothing.

Also, Dark Jedi, those screen caps look good. Do you have a copy of that set you can upload to Hotfile, Megaupload, torrents, Rapidshare, etc?

Help: looking for... 'Army of Darkness' and other Various Cuts

*THIS THREAD WAS ORIGINALLY: REPO MAN, PULP FICTION, ARMY OF DARKNESS, AND BREAKFAST CLUB TV CUTS?

Hey everyone, I recently discovered the cult classic Repo Man and liked it. After realizing there was a TV cut, I recorded the next broadcast only to find that it was not the TV cut described here in imdb. Does anyone have a copy of the original tv cut?

Also, about Pulp Fiction, I was watching it on AMC a few weeks ago and was amazed that it was in widescreen. Does anyone have a copy of the widescreen version that’s recently been showing? The alterations give the movie a whole new oddity and are interesting in my opinon.

I’m a big Evil Dead fan, so I’m curious to see the famed Army of Darkness TV Cut with all its “apeheads.” I also would be curious to see this just to view a good open matte transfer of the movie. Ridgeshark was planning to release this a few months ago I believe, right releasing his excellent fan edit, but did he ever? Anyway, that being said, I’d be greatly interested in a copy of this gem.

Finally, does anyone have the Breakfast Club TV cut? Since no one has replied to my other thread about fan edits of it, I’d still be interested in a TV version of it…

If anyone could help, it would be great…

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

Here's a little experiment of mine :-)

Nice clip, Harmy! Would you be willing to make a 1997 reconstruction after the Despecialized ones? It's nice to see bad CGI in good quality. That would be an awesome project but then again you're doing a bunch of work already. I haven't downloaded the ESB Despecialized yet but will as soon as I can.

"Doctor Who" (1996) at proper speed [AUDIO FINISHED; VIDEO SECOND PASS IN PROGRESS]

So, with that in mind, I pose a question to those that are interested in this: Would you download the DVD-9, with all retail menus and features, or the DVD-5, with just the main feature and the 4 audio tracks/2 subtitle tracks?

I would download the DVD-9 just so I have one disc to use and don't need to really even use my retail disc with all its speed up errors. However, as I don't have a dual layer burner, I would probably just shrink it to a DVD-5 with DVD Rebuilder, which gives pretty good results.

That being said, I'm sorry it took me a while to answer this question. How is this going, ChainsawAsh? I'm excited for this release.

Wow! Thanks for supplying the original stereo mix OmegaMattman! I can't wait to see this. All those audio tracks combined with such great video will be an ultimate release. Thanks for making this, Harmy! Please count me in as interested for the links once this is completely uploaded...

EDIT: On a separate note about audio tracks, Harmy, would you be interested in the Editdroid isolated score for ROTJ and ANH for when you eventually do those? I've already uploaded the ROTJ one to Hotfile for another project so all I need to do is post the links. Also, if you're interested, I also have the ANH commentary track from OCPMovie's Classic Edition.

I was gonna suggest using the ESB isolated score from the Editdroid release too or perhaps Dark Jedi and ABC's Isolated Score release but seeing as how the DVD is finished...

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

For the Project Blu Version of ANH, is it possible to put seamless branching to show the 1981 crawl as well, possibly sourced from the 2004 SE HD broadcasts? Seamless branching has been done for other releases, such as Editdroid's and Mattmanomega's. Of course, I can understand if this would mess up the audio tracks or if it is too much work, so please understand that this is just an idea I had.

Star Wars: A Renewed Hope (Moved to Facebook) (* unfinished project *)
Time

Wow! Those clips paint a very different Star Wars. I'm now very excited for this edit; a brand new version of Star Wars would be absolutely fascinating. The audio of Luke's thoughts really creates more tension and suspense during the fight. I actually find myself preferring it to the regular version, as Luke seems really tempted to go to the Dark Side. As for the other clip, I like some of the new effects, such as the new background for the sandcrawler. I also was fascinated by seeing the stormtroopers seemingly actually searching. The added dialogue works very well, being a stark contrast from the much more atmospheric and silence of the real movie. We get to experience the characters more and not have just background music playing, which would seem to be the trend for more modern films. My favorite change was R2-D2's modifying of the other unit! It really paints a mischievous side to R2 and sets up his character and later running away.

This edit doesn't seem like the old Star Wars. It feels like a brand new perspective. In fact, the changes you've shown makes it feel more modern and leass of an early 70's/80's movie. I'd definitely show this to younger viewers. With all the dialogue, the pacing seems to quicken, as in the trend of modern films. This isn't Star Wars... it's something different.

Now that you've got me really excited for this project, I must ask: About when do you see this being completed? I can't wait to view it!

Apocalypse Now - Workprint (now available) (Released)

Monroville said:

How would you guys feel about someone taking a blu-ray rip of AN:Redux and inserting the workprint footage in when appropriate (say have the 720p quality footage fade into the workprint version and back again, so as to distinguish what is the workprint footage)?  Granted, it would have to be done in a way that flowed well (no hard cuts if possible), but it would be interesting and not as hard on the eyes...

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'd be interested in a version like that, Monroville. Are you willing to make it? It would make a great composite and make most of the film more watchable...

Also, I too have the version that Maclanachu describes, albeit reauthored onto a 16:9 anamorphic single-layer disc. As far as I can tell, this question was never definitively ansered: What is missing from the 5 hour version that is in the complete workprint?

Info: Other region DVD's & Blu-ray's with Special content NOT available in the US.

According to this, the Zombie Blu-Ray has an English language track. Unfortunately, like some French Blu-Rays, it forces French subtitles when watching in English. If that is the case, is it possible to rip the Blu-Ray video and re-mux it with the English language track but not the French subtitles? That would make a great presentation of the Argento Cut.

Despite saying that it has some compression artifacts, the screen shots look decent. This is probably the best copy of the Argento Cut out there.

EDIT: Not to derail this thread too much but does anyone know if the UK Dawn of the Dead Blu-Ray looks superior to the US one?

As per my advice about amazon.fr, I searched and found Transporter 1 (14.49 euros), Transporter 2 (14.20 euros), and the Transporter Trilogy (20.98 euros= probably the best deal) on Blu-Ray. Is this what you were looking for, DJ?

Also, here is the link to the Zombie Blu-Ray which I was talking about. By the way, when I went to France, I noticed that the Zombie Blu-Ray was region free, so playback should be fine.

Are there any members here that live in France or can get French Blu-rays? there are a couple of region free titles I would like to get, and need some help.

Thanks

I don't live in France but I normally get their Blu-Rays from amazon.fr. They sometimes have discounts from the retail price so that makes up for their high shipping (9 euros per shipping plus 1.90 euros per item). They have a lot of the Franch exclusive Blu-Rays from Pulp Fiction to Zombie (the Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead in HD!).

What are your opinions on DVNR?

I saw that one the scale... I just mean that the title of the thread is kind of excluding.

What if James Cameron, the guy who invented DVNR, or the guy who invented DVNR's mom came to this board? Wouldn't they feel bad?

I guess you're right TheBoost. You do have a point. I'll change the thread title. Anyway, the scale doesn't really necessitate hating DVNR.

Help: looking for... Fan Edits / Workprints of John Hughes's Films
Time

Hi; I’m curious if anyone has made a fan edit of any John Hughes films. I like them a lot and couldn’t find anything with the search engine. So, is there anything out there or in the making? Perhaps a Cameron-centric Fight Club-esque edit of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with Ferris being imaginary? Maybe an edit of Pretty in Pink where Ducky and Andi get together?

Also, does anyone have any workprints/TV Cuts of John Hughes films like The Breakfast Club?

I’m just a big fan of John Hughes’ 1980’s films and was interested in any alternate cuts of them.

That was a great clip! I love how you obscure Anakin's face as well as the color treatment. Can't wait to see this thing.

Did it looked like Anakin still? Because I was trying to make it look menacing but also mask the fact that it was Anakin... I hope I accomplished this above all.

No I thought that you masked that it was Anakin well. A viewer who hasn't seen ROTS wouldn't know it was Anakin.
