Yeah, I'm now definitely decided to stick with the broadcasts as sources. The difference is so small, that it would be practically imperceptible in motion and I do not want to buy those Blu-Rays.
And what source did you use for the broadcast pics? It may be that there is an HDTV source that would look even better.
Well this is just dandy! It seems that the Blu-Rays seem to have no purpose whatsoever. I'll bet that color-correcting them would be a hassle since they adjusted some things independently...
As for X-Men First Class beating it in Amazon sales, well that's just fantastic. I actually thought that was a very good movie...

I also heard New Line plans to convert Lord of the Rings into 3-D not so sure if that will happen though, would sort of make sense seeing as how the 2 hobbit films are being shot in 3-D.
Since that has CGI backgrounds and with Peter Jackson's supervision, a 3D Lord of the Rings may look quite nice.

Quality of the image is incredible, yes, but it doesn't fix the fact that all of the colors are still terrible. No stars in the space shots, Yoda is blue, etc.
So how do the uncompressed Blu-Rays (37 GB) hold up against the HDTV broadcasts? Is it a marked improvement? I would assume the extra 20 GB would do something.
Good updates on the site, zombie! :-) I'm loving your News articles.

Yeah, and you're welcome by the way. A simple thank you goes a long way towards covering cross-atlantic postage.
Thank you for sharing this, Video Collector. Also, it's interesting to know that this bootleg went Transatlantic. Since it has PAL conversion artifacts I suppose that does mean it was originally a N. American boot.
Has anyone pointed this article out?
http://www.tgdaily.com/games-and-entertainment-brief/56618-massive-star-wars-3d-remakes-may-be-cut-short
Rick McCallum says the rest are a no-go if the theatrical TPM re-issuing isn't a success. WHAT? I mean you have to think; they're relying on the most critically panned of the Star Wars franchise to bring in audiences... It shouldn't be a surprise if people don't want to see that one again.
On a side note, the article mentions that Cameron is converting Titanic to 3D.

The "real 4 5 & 6" that he has complete creative control over...
Actually, if he decided to leave the Original Trilogy alone and release them unaltered in great quality, I'd be fine if he makes remakes that are his "true vision." I might even see them for comical effect, just so long as the actual Original Unaltered Trilogy sits proudly on my shelf.

No idea why they didnt think to add him in ESB and Jedi as CG. That would be a nice start for the 3D edition dont you think? ;)
I vaguely remember hearing somewhere that George loved the original puppet and refused to let replace it. Could just be rumors.

My image dominates around the forums :P
LOL. It's good that the Blu-Ray set is having some negative publicity about the new changes, but I'm surprised LFL hasn't taken any action against the leaked copies...
On that matter, I am very surprised that no one has leaked the deleted scenes nor the TPM with a CGI Yoda. I wonder if LFL is really attempting to keep those ones under guard.
It looks cool indeed... very detail. I love Alderaan too.

Star Wars was pan and scan only.
Stereo i think and the same as 1982 vhs release.
Ahh... I see.
If this comes to fruition, it could indeed redeem the Legacy and X0 names. This project does sound like a massive undertaking and I wish you luck on completing it. The theatrical audio sounds like a good idea for this project. Would you make your own recreation of the 70mm mixes or use Hairy Hen's fantastic ones?

Well when I started mentioning the younger generation, I wasn't exactly thinking mid-20s .. Not that you guys are "old" or anything :D
I was more thinking the mid to late teens of today. The ones who are growing up with Optimus in 3D and Captain Jack and Potter mania. This is what constitutes as the best of the best of today. This is the yardstick by which other movies are measured - in their eyes because its all they know - or rather, it's all they have.
As a teen of today, I am part of this younger generation and do definitely not consider any of the Transformers or Pirates as the best. Star Wars is worthy of preservation to me and I definitely do think this is worthy to preserve. The Special Editions do indeed make these great movies worse...
Would VHDs be better quality than laserdiscs? Also, what version of Star Wars was released on VHD? If it is the 1997SE and VHDs are better than laserdiscs, then these could be interesting indeed.

Here's my timeline...
May 2012 - Star Wars
November 2012 - The Empire Strikes Back
May 2013 - Return Of The Jedi
I'm calling the project 'Legacy'.
I am honestly glad that you have decided to continue this project. It could have potential. Would you consider changing the thread title to match the new title? Setting a time line for yourself is also a good move; it should help you plan things out and allow us here to expect these things.

As for black magic, well it shall never be brought up again.
Thank you! Whatever black magic was, it appears to be gone now and there's no need to feel overshadowed by a process which never was fully used. As said before, an X0 Capture is enough...
I did like the Peter Jackson movie but I love his recreation of the Spider Scene even more. Both are really worth checking out. The Spider Scene also seems like it's actually filmed in the 1930's and not just set (like those awful additional scenes to Night of the Living Dead). You'll really get a sense of how the Spider Pit would have disgusted 1930's audiences..

Interesting how quickly this thread turned into a trainwreck.
And it still seems to be unclear, if the project is still on, canceled, or just some overambitious hoax...
Definitely agreed with you Laserschwert. I actually have no idea what's really been happening since this project's "cancellation." Is it being canceled because of Black Magic's superior capabilities, but didn't X0-1138 then rather abruptly claim that that was a hoax? If the original X0 is a "hoax" (note that I don't agree the original X0 project was one), why on Earth hasn't this project been resumed and why is X0-1138 claiming that he'll perfect a process he believes never existed! Honestly, it's a mad house.
X0-1138, please if you're still serious about this. Confirm whether or not you're doing this and please take out the personal attack... If this project is not continuing, also do not tease us with saying you have a process that you would have done if you did in fact do this. This does has potential but many are not clear what you're trying to do.
My two cents...
Yep but I don't mind the lower quality at times. In fact, it's interesting since you can visibly understand what they censored. In any case, the composite of 35mm and 16mm forms the full film, so it's a good watch for me...
I also have the DVD for casual viewing.

2 Sets? LOL why 2?
Oh ha... I bought one a few years ago for $20, a pretty good price, but recently I found an extremely nice conditioned one in a garage sale for only $2! I couldn't pass it up, as the outer box was in better condition than my first.

I just checked my LD of the 97 SE ANH, I went to the scene where there was real bad Ben smear(on the HD Broadcasts) and my LD shows none of this, so who knows, he must have a different version than us.
That's good. I was pretty sure that the laserdiscs had no smearing...
dark_jedi said:
how cool would that be to have the UOT and the 97 SE as bonus BD's? well I am half way there.
Most definitely epic. I grew up with that version too and considering the work with the GOUT, this too will look excellent. By the way, did you see this? Msycamore said that there was smearing on the 97 LD too. As an owner of two '97 LD sets, I didn't see any on either of my copies... AFAIK, the '97 LD was reference quality as far as LDs go.

His favorite scene comes from the phantom edit bonus material, where jar jar dies by falling over the waterfall in the bongo.
Ha! I haven't though about that scene in a long time...
Yeah maybe I am over excited about the JSC. I simply like it for the nostalgia factor. The color timing of it is exactly how the first unaltered Star Wars VHS I found looks like, so I do appreciate watching it, if only to feel younger again, astounded by how much better the movie is without CGI. This is why I didn't think color correction was a good idea.
Of course, I'll say it now and I'll say it again. For casual viewing (seeing detail and having a film-like experience), Dark Jedi's Project Blu is the best. :-D
The most interesting thing happened today. I was at school talking to a friend younger than me, and he, knowing I was a Star Wars fan, asked me if I knew how awful the changes they were making to the Blu-Ray were. My immediate response was a surprised one of "You know of the Blu-Ray alterations?!"
My friend is not a Star Wars fan by any means (doesn't even own the movies), yet he explained to me how he'd read on the web about "George Lucas adding Vader saying NO!" He definitely agreed that it was a completely unnecessary change. He also mentioned how awful and corny "that sound Obi-Wan made was."
Anyway, the point of the story is that the general populace, even the younger generation, are becoming more and more aware of the changes and how bad they are. The internet articles do a good job of expressing distaste, enough to convince regular people. By spreading the word of the distasteful changes, most people will come to the logical conclusion that they are necessary and extraneous; we just happen to be more vocal than most. Really, the true minority is the adamant supporters of the Special Edition...
Furthermore, did I mention that we're both high schoolers; so, yes, we are very much the younger generation... As I said before, don't generalize the younger generation as not being cultured! Please!
