'Legacy' by X0-1138 - a fake and trolling 'project'

If you look at the right-side edge, X0-1138's "cap" has more information than appears on the JSC.

Ergo, either X0-1138 is significantly better at this than anyone before him (or her??), or the image is not from the JSC.

Didn't he/she say that they averaged it with the 2004? Would that add picture info? I'll check the JSC DVDs I have when I get the chance...

Revenge Of The Cut - Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith (* unfinished project *)
Time

I actually think Jonatello is onto something. "It" would affirm Ben's statement in ROTJ of Vader being more machine than man. It could also help to explain why Obi Wan did not hesitate in confronting Vader on the Death Star; he thought there was no one left to save, just a sort of reanimated carcass. To the audience as well, Vader seems completely distant and the last of sympathy, the human connection, has left him.

Vader no longer recognizes his human nature and uses that quality to distance himself from moral judgment. He serves himself now and only later in ESB when Luke shows up, do his human qualities and his capacity for "human" moral judgment resurface. "It" may not be just Padme but his entire human nature.

In any case, maybe I am reading too much into it. The Cutter's work really is very good and uncovers much depth in the ROTS story I previously thought not possible.

EDIT: In response to Tobar's comment, Vader's unemotional and self-serving quality make him "evil." With no moral nature, he is unconnected with the force (life's representation) and what Obi-Wan would consider evil. Vader has changed into a machine which is driven only by the need to survive and better its own conditions; therefore, it cares for no one: evil.

^Bad idea. Let's just say we'd rather avoid any... Imperial entanglements. Meaning if the wrong person saw that they could go after Harmy and DJ for piracy or something.

In retrospect, you're probably right. I suppose it could be construed as piracy. I think that was the problem with some of the ideas in the "Sticker Campaign" thread. Best to stick with that Facebook page for now. The word will somehow spread I suppose...

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I have problems with colours to start with, so not totally upset by pinkish bits here etc. Hoth in my mind has always been white, from the early 80s VHS it imprinted in my head. 97 still looked fine, then 04 made it blue. Too blue. My fav movie of all time and thats still the problem I have mostly.

Out of curiosity, have you checked out Adywan's AVCHD or his Theatrical Version, they both are color corrected to have a perfectly-White Hoth, which what was thought to be accurate at the time. As a fan of the white Hoth, those versions are really worth checking out; furthermore, the AVCHD is pretty much the same quality as the Blu-Rays and has the original Boba Fett and Emperor, so... sounds like it's for you.

Adywan has color corrected ANH too and Harmy's released all 3 in HD.

We still have Amazon to buy the DVDs. But suprisingly, the OT DVDs are going for big money there right now.

Ha! That's fantastic. You're right. I wonder if people are spending on those because they don't want the Blu-Rays anymore. I could picture it being a Collector's DVD like the 2 Disc Edition of Tron when Tron Legacy came out. We really need to spread the word about the preservations/enhancements on this sight. If people would accept GOUT quality to get narratively-better Star Wars movies, the Despecialized Editions or the V3 ought to blow them completely away. Someone should post a discussion on Amazon about them...

Save Star Wars Dot Com

As harsh as what McCallum says, it's probably true. Lucas will never be satisfied, unless of course he decided to just abandon the originals then remake them... Pretty soon things will be added to Episodes II and III. I'm actually surprised that McCallum would say that publicly but not challenge Lucas on some things about the PT.

Overlooking all the problems with the blu rays( it's additions or it's unfixed problems) is the 1080p pq make it worth the purchase??
Time

Don't forget the DVNR. In my opinion, they did cleanse Star Wars of some of its character by removing too much grain. The crushed blacks are bothersome though; you do lose detail, stars, and lightsabers. Furthermore the 2004 version was only done at 2K.. If this is of no issue to you, then I suppose the Blu-Ray may be fine for you.

Normally HDTV vs Blu-Ray comparisons appear on AVSForum. You just need to wait for them. They've done ones for Back to the Future and Aliens.

Well, the GOUT was actually supposedly a Limited Edition, so it's not that surprising Lucas is finally making sure it gets phased out. I recall seeing some in a Borders store when I was there for the "Closing" sale. Anyway, with all the preservations/enhancements we have of the GOUT, the base disc is somewhat unnecessary.

As for the other DVDs no longer being available, well that's not surprising, the 2004 version is now outdated, replaced by the 2011 version. The good thing though is that we've thoroughly preserved the 2004...

The Blu-Rays have a marginal improvement over the HDTV captures, which Adywan and Harmy use, but because of all the problems, it's so marginal an improvement that it's really not a necessary purchase. Harmy recently even decided to stick to the HDTV captures as sources, since they held up against the Blu-Ray. Remember though that Harmy's Despecialized Editions are 720p.

If you're looking for comparisons between HDTV capture and Blu-Ray, there are some on the last few pages of the Blu-Ray thread I believe.

Wow! I never saw the ghost before! With what Empire of Dreams revealed about the editing process, it's possible that was the only shot of the homestead at that angle they could use.

I too never noticed that before. What would make Luke appear ghost-like? Judging by Luke's position that was probably taken right after he viewed the sunset.

As for why nothing has been changed for the Blu-Rays, it's probably just general Lucas laziness, thinking the product will sell in any form.

Wow. This thread still confuses me a bit, with all it's random abruptness and general amount of mystery...

Anyway, that looks like fantastic work if it's a JSC capture. The colors definitely are different from everything post-Definitive Collection but I think that's how the JSC's coloring looks. As far as which type is more theatrically accurate, I'm still not sure. Personally the JSC sometimes has coloring that just looks "right" to me, especially with ESB.

The JSC raw dump is done and I've already synced it visually with the '04 DVD so I can test the additive experiment I'm working on.

Expect JSC direct samples tomorrow in MP4 and a raw avi sample for the nerds:

Monday - 9pm GMT.

As said before, that was definitely fast. You transferred the JSC quickly. If your video looks as good as that picture you gave us, that would be astounding. The JSC does indeed have much potential and if you've perfected a process to average it well with the '04, that too is astonishing. I can't wait for those samples.

Help: looking for... Does an OT edit that falls between Ady's & Harmy's projects exist?

Harmy did a "party despecialized" edition of each movie awhile back before he had all the tech stuff down. They're all pretty well-constructed and might be what you're looking for.

That's a good idea but I think those might be offline already...

If you can find them, you may also like ADigitalMan's edits or Darth Editous's. They're not theatrical restorations but not as radical as Adywan's work.
