More (Funny) Changes on Blu-ray

Luke is the main hero of the original trilogy...

I do understand the point of the video.

Yes, I would agree that Luke is the main hero of the OT, but honestly does not do much in ROTJ; however, out of curiosity, would you like ROTJ better if it had an alteration of that magnitude by Lucas? Vader loses redemption but the main hero saves the day.

On a side note, I actually do think that the videos I posted are made well, but, if actually put in a "Special Edition," the backlash could be unbelievable.

I heard the 2006 set with the GOUT is now gone...

I'm honestly surprised more things aren't being phased out from DVD, with it being killed off by a combination of streamed movies and Blu-Rays.

As for the Star Trek set, I didn't know they were phasing out the DVDs, but they also had the original effects on the Blu-Ray through seamless branching. I'm not sure if they redid the crossfading between episodes though.

What HASN’T changed on the 2011 OT SE Blu-ray release – the uncorrected mistakes...

The SE is just so half-assed.

You pretty much hit it on the head with this comment Klingon_Jedi. The problem with the SE is often the changes are not thought completely through or done thoroughly enough to eliminate continuity errors. This is why fan edits, like Revisited, are so much better... It would be nice if in the actual Special Editions: changes were completely carried out (i.e. new rock does not appear then disappear).

In what way did it not give acceptable results? I've never actually tried it, myself.

I'd be interested in whether this could work or not... as said before, it could be promising.

(Heh: guess we're sort of hijacking this thread.)

Well, I don't suppose it really matters if he's permanently banned and the thread title "Legacy" is pretty vague..

Whoa! I've never seen that photo before, Baronlando. Maybe it was a last minute reshoot and Marquand, with less experience with FX, thought it was convincing enough. An alternative is that Lucas may have wanted to show the Falcon to make more clear that they were talking about Lando taking it. In any case, I always did think it was somewhat of a cheap shot considering the high standard that SW and ESB set.

In other words, if you averaged a part of the JSC where there was no picture information (all black), with the part of the 2004 DVD where there *is* picture information, then all you'd get back is the 2004 DVD picture. And I'd be inclined to think you'd then see the edge pretty clearly.

You're right and there's no discernible edge to that photo... About how quickly he purported to do this, the "fake" theory looks more and more convincing. I will try to find the time tomorrow to take caps of SF/DJ's JSC and the V8, see if the extra picture information is actually there...

On a vaguely-related topic one experiment I've never tried is to use ColourLike() to give an HD target the same colour palette as the JSC.

I wonder how that will like. That would definitely a project I'd be interested. The JSC's color timing is really unique. In fact, I'm actually curious if it's more theatrically accurate than the GOUT; it does seem more vibrant on the whole, especially scenes in ESB and ROTJ. I still am honestly surprised that it was pretty much abandoned as a color source.
