Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I wonder how things would have played out if Marquand / Kershner had decided to do special editions of their own.

Kershner may have actually made an interested alternative cut with some interesting new scenes, but I think it would be a similar deal like the "Aliens Director's Cut" and not really the director's preferred cut. Because he was running into many walls and budget issues, he may have actually wanted to do more...

As for Marquand, I honestly have less faith in him. Sorry. ROTJ wasn't as good in any case...

Oh... if only that were true. It would be nice to actually respect Lucas as a filmmaker again... I cannot fathom some of his decisions; although, the seeds are somewhat evident all the way back to "From Star Wars to Jedi," when he was talking about being able to make a much better "Star Wars" with all his experience...*sigh*

don't be acting all DanielB or AdamwanKenobi in here or I'll be forced to go all ocpmovie on your ass.

LOL at the ot.com self-referential humor. So, I suppose now the list of moderators are Moth3r, Jay, Zion, and now Anchorhead; out of sheer curiosity, where there ever any other moderators from when the website was really brand new?

I heard the 2006 set with the GOUT is now gone...

Is there any consensus on what the best fan made dvd from the 2006 discs is?

The general consensus is that Harmy's Despecialized and Dark Jedi's V3 are the best.

Harmy's Despecialized is an ultra detailed restoration of the theatrical versions by combining the 2004 HD Broadcast with a plethora of many other sources. It is currently available online on tehparadox and myspleen in HD, so you may want to check this out.

Alternatively, there are Dark Jedi's V3s which are amazing upscales of the GOUT and have every audio track ever released on them in fantastic quality. These are available on myspleen.

NOW RELEASED: The Godfather: 1901-1980 Epic Edit
Time

Unfortunately, the DVDs are not really available more. There are active links for DVD 2 and DVD 5 on tehparadox. For the others, there are some torrents, but they are not really seeded; I was only able to get to 94% on them a few months ago.

You might be interested in this though. It's a fan edit which uses the extended scenes from FanFiltration's set and even adds a couple more. It's in chronological order and quite good quality with the non-deleted scenes being in 16:9 widescreen from the Coppola Restoration. You can get it from fanedit.info.

Deleted scenes on the 2011 BD...
Time

That's exactly how I felt Tyrphanax. After all these years, it's cool to see deleted scenes, but.. yeah, you get the vibe of why they were cut. I'll give it one thing though, it does add romantic tension. My guess is that early in the ESB editing phase, it was decided to make this a tad less mature by softening the love triangle, ie. deleted scene between Luke and Leia alone in a hallway.
