Lucasfilm: 3D RELEASES MAY NOT HAPPEN AFTER ALL
Time

It's a shame that the 1997 SE materials actually had to be cut into the original negative. I guess the good thing is that eventually when they have to do a new scan of the negative, it won't contain the '04 and '11 changes... Also, the colors won't be messed up.

It's just as bad that they also did it to Apocalypse Now because the new scenes, on the whole are rubbish, and ruin the film's pacing. At least they reconstructed the theatrical cut for the Blu-Ray...

Doctor Who
Time

I actually would agree with Bingowings recommendation to start at the Eleventh Hour. It will help you catch up faster and introduce you to the current Doctor.

On a side note, I watched "The Girl Who Waited" and absolutely loved it. In my opinion, it has been the Sixth Season's best episode so far; it also didn't necessarily feel like a Doctor-lite episode. I thought the make-up effects were great and it had a deep story line. It emphasized the time travel aspect of Doctor Who without feeling like it was trying too hard.

This is one of those episodes that really shows the acting skill of all of the main characters, and it was absolutely lovely. We finally get some long-awaited character development and tension. Seeing the Doctor's more manipulative and darker side was good, as it had been absent for awhile and Matt Smith knows how to portray it well. There isn't an episode in recent memory that had such an emotional ending without being corny.

An aspect of the episode I reveled in was the use of the Eleventh Doctor's theme; it happened loads of times during Series 5 but was generally absent from Series 6. While I do acknowledge it as a gimmick much like the Indiana Jones theme, it is effective. Series 6 on the whole has felt like it tries to be convoluted and this was a nice blend of straight adventure and deep sci-fi.

Info: a Smear-free '93 ?

I can understand the appreciation of just having a straight preservation of the LD as it is, so no problem.

I forgot to say thank you for not altering the colors. It's interesting seeing them in a different way...

Oh, and thanks to Mallwalker for discovering this LD in the first place. Maybe I should've made a separate thread for this but I think this will do for the time being.

My suggestion would be to contact Mallwalker if possible and have a thread title change to something like: "Smear-free '93 ?: Preserved and Available on MySpleen." However, that would only be if Darth Mallwalker permits.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

Actually, not knowing of the twins' names is something that's occurred in other fan-edits and does work to preserve some of the twists in the OT. I do love JasonN's edits of the first two Episodes, being one of the people who didn't mind cutting the murdering of the sandpeople. I've yet to see the III as the links no longer work...

Help: looking for... 'Army of Darkness' and other Various Cuts
Time

This website here seems to describe the Captain Supermarket cut. Apparently, it is a deviation of the International Cut... Though the Captain Supermarket cut is not specifically included, you can see the International, Director's, and TV Cut Differences on this page..

I suppose this disc may be worthy of preservation after all... It does have some unique features.

Info: 1997 SE DV Broadcast Info & Discussion

So all we have to do is to find someone who recorded this broadcast and we will have a HQ 97 SE ROTJ!

Any ideas who could have this recording?

I believe that the problem was that the processes in those days to capture digital broadcasts usually caused heavy smearing; however, recently someone did suggest that the smearing was inherent to the 1997 Telecine.

If the first theory is correct and the broadcast you pointed out is recent enough, then there is a possibility that we could find a recording with no smearing, which would be utterly fantastic. Good luck trying to find someone though. In the years this forum has been active, not many digital broadcast recordings have surfaced and all with the smearing, so it may be pretty hard to find a high quality recording...

Also I got a question that I need to ask... maybe I am dumb, but why does Leia only give birth to Luke? Maybe this is something I am missing of the Star Wars story...

I haven't actually seen the edit, but I would assume such a choice would be made as to keep their sibling-nature as a secret preserved for ROTJ. It could be assumed that Leia's birth and naming were simply not shown.

Also, don't you mean "Padme only gave birth" not "Leia only gave birth"? ;-)

Doctor Who
Time

Doctor Who is actually a decent series. Sometimes, it gets a bit too convoluted for my taste and feels like it's trying to hard, especially this last season, but all together, it's more satisfying than most of the shows on television.

I still need to see "The Girl Who Waited." Thanks for reminding me that it's sitting on my DVR...

The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).
Time

As much as I love the duel, cutting it is an inspired idea. The duel was inserted there to introduce audiences in 1977 to lightsaber fights, but with the series working as a whole, it would probably be interesting to have it cut. Ben come across as having become more contemplative since Episode III and Vader seems more brash and revenge-driven still.

After the EW ESB scene was released, I posted a color corrected version on YouTube:

It's been like two days but this thing already has 39,051 views... Someone even ripped my color corrected version off and it's on whatculture.com...

It's actually an interesting extension although one probably not good for the movie was a whole...
