Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

You are not alone. This is exactly how I remember it from the movie I used to watch as a kid. I also agree with the Droids segment, it does NOT belong there, I think that's just another fuckup - they had this short segment of R2 and 3PO and they wanted to add it somewhere on the BluRay - and they edited it into an incorrect place

Nice to know there are more people who remember the scene like this, but most definitely, I don't know why they randomly inserted that bit with the droids. It wrecks continuity and 3P0 sounds awful.

Anyone know if Yoda is CG in Episode V and VI?

No they retained the puppet for the Blu-Ray. They just replaced the one in Episode I. Hopefully, they won't do a CGI Yoda for the 3D release. I can already picture him jumping around while training Luke.... *gulp*

By the way, that picture of Vader is going to give me nightmares.

I don't get that- it's got the person walking past the camera like in the SE, but it's also got Red Leader talking about Luke's father (which I have also seen somewhere before) which they edited from the SE. So, the guy walking past the camera was always there? I just thought they added it in '97 to hide the edit.

The did just add it to the '97. What you see moving past them on the deleted scene is just something cut out of the film (big black rectangle) not an added person. I wonder if they composited the guy into the original film of the scene for the '97 and now can't remove it, so they had to put that black film anomaly.

I just went back and re-read your earlier post. I had the wrong scene anyway. I thought you guys were talking about the "I'm going to jump ship and find the rebellion" scene.

Ah gotcha.

Is it possible you heard the original broadcasts?

Nope. I definitely just saw it at my house on some sort of VHS or laserdisc. It is plausible that I could have seen it on some documentary on TV, but it would have to be in the last decade; nothing from the 80's. I do remember the scene looking like that, minus the interjected bit with R2D2 and 3PO; that surprised me.

The biggest gripe I have with it is that Yoda doens't even try, he gives up like a punk and runs with his tales between his legs,

What if we could have a bit of Qui Gon dialog (a la luke's trench run) were he tells him to run and that there will be another time to defeat him.

what do you think guys?

While that does seem like a viable solution for improving the sequence, I think cutting it out is probably better, as CGI Yoda jumping around can get quite irritating.

If one really wanted to keep this, I would suggest it as a bit of a surreal sequence.. like the Cave. It would end with Yoda falling down into some dark abyss (underneath the Senate seats) and then cut to him meditating on the Tantive IV. I don't think Palpatine would be that unguarded physically, and a mental failure would really indicate to the audience that the Jedi have utterly failed. (I believe someone actually suggested this before.)

I've noticed in recent years that Return of the Jedi is very poor in iconic imagery. Star Wars and Empire had all these wonderful snapshot moments. The only ones in Jedi were recycled.

These are also great ideas for ROTJ. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. ROTJ lacks grandeur. Their is little sense of impressiveness to an audience. It's cinematography too isn't nearly as visually striking as SW and ESB.

but a couple of lines were trimmed from Boushh's dialogue when 'he' pulls a thermal detonator and threatens JABBA something along the lines of "They'll be scraping your stinking carcass off the walls', could be fairly easily reinserted with a few lengthened cuts and subtitling , as it is Boushh seems to say a whole line of dialogue with only a few syllables, C-3po doesn't have to translate anything further, and it lends more to Jabba's response of "This Bounty Hunter is my kind of scum!"

Regardless of whether it was a deleted scene or not, that would make a good edit. Jabba's liking of Boushh seems less abrupt and more plausible. Maybe the whole sequence could be recaptioned, as some of the text does seem a tad weak.

Argh! I've always thought that I saw the extended Biggs scene and this is exactly as I remember it. Somehow, I think I've seen this seen before, complete with the additional dialogue. I'd hate to think that I'm suffering from a grappling hook-esque syndrome... :-(

Ah well. Is this how you remember the scene Puggo?

The 80's because of all of the cool movies: Beverly Hills Cop, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, The Last Crusade, Wrath of Khan, Terminator, Aliens, Blade Runner, Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, Return of the Jedi, Predator, E.T., and EVIL DEAD 1 and 2!!! Also, the music is epic: Sweet Dreams, Sunglasses at Night, Axel Foley, If You Leave, Don't You Forget About Me, Our House, Video Killed the Radio Star, and a plethora of others! They're all so quotable. Also, I love dressing in 80's fashion: an oversized tan coat and shades...!

Weird thing though is that I was actually ask that exact same question, Ziggy... Odd, right?

80's movies or 80's music?

Info Wanted: Are the 1997 Special Edition releases preserved?
Time

All right. I finished uploading the G'KAR DVDs of ESB and ROTJ to multiupload. I've already sent out a few PMs to rockin, toho-scope, and joshdv. If you want the links to these, now is the time to start PM'ing me... I will be monitoring my PMs for the next 3 hours. After that, it may take me longer to get the links to you, but I'll do so within 12 hours of any PM that comes my way.

I did not upload ANH because I really believe the Reivax is much better quality. The G'KAR is heavily compressed video-wise because of so many audio tracks and you will see pixelization on bigger screens. However, if there is high demand for a file-sharing upload of ANH, I will do so...

By the way, if anyone has the Flunk or the TB releases, please do share them either by file-sharing site or myspleen... It would be much appreciated since I don't know how they compare to the G'KAR releases.
