Robot Chicken's Star Wars Specials or Family Guy's Star Wars Specials?
Unfortunately, the version posted to tehparadox is already offline.
Happy 60th Birthday, Mr. Hamill!
Master Qui-Gon, I just sent you a PM about where to get this edit...
Really, ddonna? It's your third post and you're already suggesting we ban someone, who has been a member since '04. Granted that it is very unfortunate he won't share it, mverta is not trolling. He has his own website to show he is actually doing work. You also don't need to buy the shirts if you're against this.
Please understand, I'm honestly not trying to pick on you; I'm just saying an immediate suggestion to ban can come across as very abrupt. If you think someone is trolling, look at their profile first.
I too look forward to Indy on Blu-Ray, probably having fine grain, stellar audio, and no changes, but, Klingon_Jedi, you do know that there's an HD Raiders already available with the original non-CGI cliff shot restored, right?
Mverta, thank you for updating us. Best of luck. This appears to be a comprehensive restoration. I do look forward to following it on the Star Wars Legacy site. As much as I would love a copy of this, I do understand your reasons for keeping this private. If you having the only copy was the condition to getting access to these materials (i.e. film scans, software, etc.), that would make some sense, but, if ever those conditions change, please share.
At least if all else fails and Lucas has preserved no copy of the original version, your 4K version will still exist...
I do have two questions though:
Quoting a Film.
Star Wars Revisited in 1080p (using color-corrected 2004 master as basis) or Star Wars: 1977 Theatrical Version (fully restored from best materials possible with original audio tracks).

Never knew about the characters in the upper frame, is it letters or some sort of time code or is it static throughout the film?
It's completely static through the whole film.
That's because it is a blended frame.
Ah I see. Gotcha.
Yay. I'll be interested to see what you eventually come up with. Thanks for the update.

Agreed.
Dark Side of the Moon.
Which is worse: Hayden in ROTJ or "Nooooo!" in ROTJ?

Aluminum Falcon, would you happen to know what those cut off characters said?
I was actually going to ask you that. Honestly, I can't read them since it's just the bottom of the letters. They are present throughout the entire film though; it maybe something added during the mastering to VHS tapes because I don't see it on the laserdisc.
Audiences back then might not have been able to see it because the TV overscan would cut it off...
It's on my personal transfer of the NTSC 1982 Rental VHS, as well.

never heard of it before, the framing/cropping is quite different from the '82 LD.
It's odd that it looks so different and doesn't have the burn marks. It is odd how the burn marks were present originally but then disappeared, certainly not due to DVNR back then.
In any case, for some reason, to my eyes, the Rental VHS looks cleaner than the laserdisc (which looks to be overcropped and oversaturated). Look at the detail on R2 in the second shot, the VHS seems to be clearer. Interesting...

None, what is this "1982 Library Starkiller Preservation"? never heard of it before, the framing/cropping is quite different from the '82 LD.
I believe it is the 1982 Rental-Only VHS. Starkiller made a transfer of that. I would definitely guess that this is it since on the upper left hand corner, you can see these static things, which also appear throughout the movie on my copy of the 1982 rental VHS.
none and msycamore, if I'm wrong, sorry for giving out misinformation.

Well, we do know for sure that the Leia/Tarkin-dialogue now uses different audio elements. All lines in that scene are now clear as day, whereas a lot of Cushing's lines had that "crappy ADR"-quality to them before.
They don't sound like different takes, though, and I doubt they were able to somehow mess with the original tapes - those lines have sounded tinny on every release up till now. I wonder if they were somehow able to clean up the original on-set dialogue?
Interesting. I was under the impression they didn't really put that much work in the sound mix. I wonder how they cleaned the dialogue up...

I, personally, would go with the unrestored 70mm version. That way, at the very least, we'd get the authentic Six-Track Audio and better source material to base our preservations off of. Besides, there are members like Magnolia Fan who can do the restoration.
Just an observation: The situation Marty McFly describes is very much like the Blade Runner DVDs. The first DVD was 70mm which did retain a film look but has LOTS of dirt, and the other DVDs were restored versions of the 35mm masters... Still, I probably would have gone with 70mm as it would be interesting to see differences in ESB and ROTJ; the grain would be like an old friend.
In any case, I repeat my question: Blade Runner with or without voiceover?
Sounds like an interesting idea. After all, people have loved how TMBTM grindhoused Star Wars and Jaws... you might even consider using that for some ideas on how to make a grinhouse version.
In any case, the B&W to Color transition, as well as aged film, sounds interesting.I vaguely recall there was a special feature showing stop motion dinosaurs in the DVD. Maybe you'll want to include those in some scenes to replace the stunning CGI? It would be understandable for grindhouse producers to suddenly lose money and have to resort to stop motion for a few dinosaur scenes.
Interesting that they would go to the effort to put another sound element. I wonder if there are any other alternate sound takes within the movie we haven't noticed.

The main reason for me wanting to do a second attempt at some point is the ugly chroma noise and aliasing. If I did, I would also restore the original opening and do some color correction, tweak the colors/contrast in certain scenes. So it wouldn't be a straight preservation of this LD that way.
Ah a second edition! That sounds exciting... I look forward to whenever you can do it. I am very happy with this but a second one with less chroma noise and color correction could be an exciting project.. certainly a different experience than watching the GOUT.
I suppose if you do that this first edition could still have some use as a straight transfer/nostalgic edition.
EDIT: Just had a thought, msycamore, will you color correct the sunset scene in the eventual improved edition?
Blade Runner.
Blade Runner with voiceover or without?
This does sound like a great fan edit. It's always cool to see alternative cuts of Star Wars. This would be a curious form of Star Wars with some extended scenes. How do you plan to refine the effects?
I do have one suggestion. For Jabba, you should most definitely use the 1997SE version, as opposed to the updated one. Some motion degrading and it could make a believable stop motion creature.
The US LDs did indeed have a 5.1 mix. In any case, there is at least one rip of the trilogy floating around the forum, which is in true 5.1. It was used for Lee Thorogood's laserdisc and dark_jedi's unreleased 1997 V2s. If I recall correctly, either Darth Editous or Adywan made it. Of course, I do understand it will be awhile before these but just thought it could be handy info.

1984 or Animal Farm?

On a personal note, I had intended to try a preservation and 16x9 upscale of the '97 NTSC US Laserdiscs...but there's some weirdness with the framerate. While the bulk of the movies are in NTSC Film (23.976 fps), the closing credits are NTSC Video (29.97 fps). So, making solid progressive-film presentation where the credits don't look like junk is a bit of a puzzle I've yet to solve.
Still, it's something I'd like to try when I've finished some of my other projects. "Rebellion 2: Lightsaber Boogaloo"?
Hmm... That sounds like an epic project OmegaMattman. A preservation of the 1997 Laserdiscs is long overdue. Would you try to upscale it to HD or just have a plain anamorphic widescreen DVD? In any case, I'd be happy to see the thing in NTSC and true 5.1 surround sound.
