Info: DVNR smearing in GOUT not in the master...? Or is the 1995 release a different master altogether...?
Time

Looking at your screencaps... that's no good. I guess that the LD resolution really just makes smearing less visible. :-(

If the LDs simply blur the smearing then I suppose the digital broadcasts are actually better. They must have applied a shoddy amount of DVNR for the 1997 telecine. Ah well.

In any case, watching over all the digital broadcasts, the amount of smearing seems less visible in some than others. The G'Kar really looks awful while the TB and Flunk seem better. In any case, the higher resolution of the broadcasts really is better it simply shows the smearing more.

Star Wars Prologue - Epic Prequel Edit (Released)

What's really sad is that this could have been a neat edit.

I understand why the guy would want to start his own website, and more power to him.  But why not also stick around and get input from more than the four sycophants that are active members over there?  When you are trying something ambitious, you really need other eyes on the work - and critical eyes to boot.

It's a shame, really.

This.

You're right. Antimatter did have potential although with the power to create without any abandon, he made this. With refining and input from others, it could have turned out into something we could have all enjoyed a lot more. One can easily get caught up in their own art and refuse to take criticism (*cough* Lucas *cough*). He did have some technical skill after all, as proven by the Jar Jar removal which is only now being explored again by Spence.

Doctor Who
Time

Wow. The finale was not as insanely complicated as it seemed. I did enjoy it. It was a good old-fashioned Doctor Who story, and, on the whole, it made sense. Honestly the one think that irked me just a bit was the end. I felt it a tad bit of a cop-out though not nearly as bad as a less skilled writer could have made it. Overall it was pretty satisfying.

One (maybe) plot-hole though, how could the Doctor be regenerating...if...? You'll get this if you watch the episode. Anyway, I found the oldest question to be quite amusing and as described, very obvious, in retrospect. It's even in this post... :-)

Confused Matthew, who I usually disagree with, weighs in on the Blu:

I like that he call BS on George's "critics always hated Star Wars" routine.

I'm not quite buying the Joel Schumacher>George Lucas argument, though.

I normally don't like Confused Matthew's Reviews but that letter was okay. I do hope RedLetterMedia makes a video about them. After all there was a little section in one of his reviews where he does trash the Special Editions...

OFFICIAL: Library of Congress had original prints replaced with 1997 SE
Time

Agreed, Pennsylvania! I too was relying on the prints in the Library of Congress. It's completely disappointing how insanely hypocritical GL is. I always thought he was holding the originals back, only to eventually release it to gain cash; however, his absurd "seek and destroy" method suggests otherwise. I do hope prints survive. It really does seem like a pretty bleak horizon.

Also, about bkev's idea of GL putting it in his will, that's completely plausible. In fact, I believe his will specifies that Star Wars 7-9 can never be made, so preventing the originals from release could also be something there. The only question is would it be binding when the copyright expires?

In fact, I suppose it's now that I really see the value in the Legacy project. If a 4K Restored Version exists somewhere for future reference when GL has less power, then all will not be lost.

EDIT: I suppose Nosferatu is an uplifting story. However, think how many films from back then were completely lost due to ill preservation. Various original cuts of The Phantom of the Opera and the sequel to Birth of a Nation are movies that will most probably be never seen again... Star Wars may one day become a lost film, replaced by a hamfistedly edited version.
