Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Just looked at the most recent videos again:

  • The Lightsaber Fight- I know you did this awhile ago but the new version you made has such a great look to it. The lightsabers have a nice hand-animated look to them which I personally love. The colors are spot on. Vader's lightsaber, for example, looks very red. It was nice seeing it in good quality.
  • The First Dewback Shake Reduction with Ben and Luke- The second version is a decided improvement and comes our nicer than your original Despecialized version. I noticed that the color timing is different for the comparison. Which color represents your intentions?
  • The Dewback Shake Reduction with C-3P0 and R2-D2- I never was bothered by the Dewback in the original version, but I do see the improvement and you'be done a great job.
  • "I can't shake him" scene- Your new version looks great.
  • Melting Bars- I definitely never knew about this SE change but it's nice that you could restore the original.
  • Vader DeBrightened- It's more theatrically accurate, so it's a good thing to restore for me.
  • The Logos and Credits- These look crisp and fantastic. I love them! Great Job! It's most probably the best they've ever been seen (minus 70mm theatrical screenings).

I really do like your first Despecialized but the new version (2.0) looks like it's going to be even better. Fantastic job, Harmy!

Info: Digging up those blacks - using the STAR WARS Blu-ray for preservations
Time

You_Too, I definitely like your color correction. The lower contrast and warmer timing look very nice and evoke a retro feeling. In short, I like it in general. When Star Wars showed in theaters, it was probably a tad bit more saturated and cooler, but, as far as being aesthetically pleasing, yours look nice. Good job!

ANH:R - Stronger Vader edit: *** Released ***
Time

Joshua_Blue, that clip was pretty good. Having Vader be more distant does work. The only qualm I have though is: would it be possible to have a more Star-Wars-y transition like a wipe instead of the current crossfade? In any case, I think this will definitely be an interesting edit and I'm glad you started your own thread for it. After watching SW so many times, it's always unique to see a narrative change.

captainsolo, thank you for chiming in. That's good news that it's uncut. I wasn't completely sure. Being first introduced to the Road Warrior by the BD, I didn't know the color timing was off. That's too bad.

milw50717, do you mind just uploading the trailer from your DVD? Sorry if that's breaking forum rules. I'm just curious to see it as the website describes it as different than the one in the US.

Thorr's 35 mm Star Wars Trilogy SE Trailer WQHD Restoration (Part-Finished)
Time

Does it look the same on your computer?

Yes it does.

Are you saying the black level should be darker, or the image as a whole should be darker (ie the white levels are overblown)?

I believe that the whole image should be slightly darker. I altered your screenshot to what I approximately believe is right here:

Sorry if I'm coming across as picky. I'm not particularly apt in judging how dark or light something should be, but, just by how I see it, I think that it should look like this.

Hmm... that's interesting, OmegaMattman. I actually wasn't aware of that. Hopefully, they are planning a better edition, though I thought the current edition was all right (minus some minor cuts). :-) Hopefully, they won't come out with a DVNR'ed to death transfer.

In any case, a special uncut edition with alternate scenes from the TV cut would be spectacular.

Info Wanted: Abel Gance's Napoleon 1935 Sound Re-Edit - anyone have it?; NOTE: AVI of Full 1983 Brownlow Restoration Available
Time

Hello all,

Recently, I’ve discovered Abel Gance’s truly epic film Napoleon. By chance, I acquired a copy of the Korean DVD, though after doing some research, was thoroughly disappointed that it was missing so much footage.

Eventually, I stumbled across this thread on MUBI. It said that there was a bootleg of the more complete Brownlow Restoration floating out there. Apparently someone made a composite from a higher quality DVD than the Korean and a recording of the one airing of the restoration. Does anyone happen to have this bootleg?

Any finds would be most appreciated.

Info & Offer: Laserdisc, I have an X9 for use... if anyone wants to use it?
Time

Hello there, hiephoi. Welcome to ot.com. As said before, an X9 should be able to produce extraordinary results. As far as I know, Arnie. d already captured the JSC on an X9 but no one has taken him up on the offer of finalizing it.

However, the Special Widescreen Edition Trilogy has yet to be captured on such a machine. They were individual releases that preceded the Definitive Collection, which seems to be the trilogy box you describe. The SWE trilogy used an alternate master; msycamore recently preserved ANH but not on an X9. Unfortunately, the Definitive Collection really isn't of interest in being preserved because the GOUT DVD uses the master of it.

The lddb is really a good way to find out what you have. The individual releases could be the 1995 releases, which have Faces on the cover, or the Special Widescreen Edition, which have movie posters on the cover.

Hello everyone, apologies for bumping such an ancient thread, but I was just wondering if anyone still had some rare Road Warrior/Mad Max material. The Road Warrior TV Cut could be something to preserve.

Also, does anyone know if a completely uncut version (a longer version than the Blu-Ray exists) is available? Mitch spoke of such a version earlier in the thread but I was under the impression it was complete.

Rare edits of Mad Max would also be of interest. If anyone has these things but can't upload, I'd be more than willing to, provided someone sends me a copy.
