It’s mind boggling to me though as a late generation SW fan, that ESB was viewed as unoriginal. I could understand the audience feeling let down by the ending though. Back when fans weren’t sure if Lucas could pull through and release a third installment. In their minds basically, they probably thought, “Shit, this movie isn’t as good as STAR WARS, and this latest film brings up too many questions than answers that NEED answers, and now… now we might be stuck with only two films if this one doesn’t sell well!”
Long winded I know, but I’m just trying to imagine myself in their shoes if Star Wars was this new thing. For me growing up, I never had this fear since Star Wars was already so massive in culture. After Attack of the Clones, I thought, “Of course Episode III will happen! It’s a nobrainer!”
I kinda think it’s mainly an issue with the Emperor. As Luke points out, the Emperor’s overconfidence is his weakness. Plus, he failed to sense Luke was on Endor too. The old man was just waning from old age combined with his complacent view of his Empire that was falling apart.

I may not agree with most of your points, I found it interesting that you recognize it as a homage. I’ve seen/read comments of TFA being a homage is a good thing rather than a bad thing. I’m just saying I’m surprised you didn’t call it a ripoff or a ANH clone.
C-3PO’s barrage of one-liners spoken to no one, the sudden appearance of R2-D2’s rockets, and the notion that every single droid head is totally interchangeable coming in the span of five minutes are all much harder for me to swallow.
Don’t forget to include Threepio’s head magically being able to operate independent of a body when it was established in TESB that it couldn’t.

It’s a fair point in some regard. However, you could show that diversity in the universe via the Rebel fleet pilots. That would give more weight to the Rebel Alliance to show how this isn’t just a human fight for freedom, but every alien’s fight too.
Chewie would have something more to do as well in the story. Perhaps it doesn’t have to be a Wookiee planet, but a place where many Wookiee slaves are imprisoned there by the Empire, so with Chewie’s help, frees them and overruns the Imperials there. Introducing Ewoks in one and only movie has that issue of trying to tell their own story, their culture, etc when there’s so much already going on and slows down the movie too.
I’ve come to terms with Ewoks ever since I read these points:
-Endor is the Ewok’s home turf
-They are savages (they will try to burn live bodies and probably consume them)
-They ARE warriors and trappers (all those log contraptions were probably originally made for bigger game that lurk in the forest)
-They are difficult targets to spot (they’re short so they blend better with the ground, and they can attack easily from treetops as well)
With that aside, while I don’t have issue with how ‘teddy bears’ defeat a garrison of Stormtroopers/AT-ST’s, I do take issue to even have them in the first place. Mostly because I found the wookiee army more intriguing of an idea.

Why did the stormtroopers kill the jawas and then make it look like the sand people did it?
Huh? Luke assumed sandpeople did it. Then Obi-Wan said that sandpeople walk in single file to cover their numbers, and that the track in the sand are shown side by side, aka Stormtroopers.* The Stormtroopers didn’t even try to make it seem as if sandpeople did it. Luke only assumed that since it’s implied Jawa’s and sandpeople don’t get along.
*I probably am not relaying the words accurately, but regardless, Obi-Wan pointed out how sandpeople walk differently compared to Stormtroopers.

Bolded parts are the lines I changed. The original crawl had too much “Luke”, it should had made clearer that the Republic isn’t really being supportive of Leia’s Resistance, and it was lackluster in some areas. With this crawl, I wanted more impact and tension expressed. For one, I put “the last Jedi” at the end for more impact and leaves more surprise/shock that Luke is the last Jedi afterall (since one would assume that Luke would had trained Jedi during these 30 years); thus it’s the last line. To limit some redundant names in the crawl, I took out Leia sending a daring pilot and instead just threw in Poe.
For adding some spice, Leia is in desperate need of help, so in order to express that, I removed “With the support of the REPUBLIC” since that implies Leia is backed up with some major help. I’m not sure why the original crawl says the Republic is supporting the Resistance if Leia states in the movie how the Republic’s senate is too slow to get anything done and even sent a negotiator in hopes to convince the Republic to send its fleet for aid.
Overall, my aim was to trim, make some things clearer, and add more tension.

Edit: Also, to be fair, I think if say R2 did intentionally want the pod to land where it did, it was a smart move. If he had landed way too close to Obi-wan, then the Imperials would be RED hot on his trail. So instead, R2 made enough distance to get to Obi-Wan in a timely manner while also throwing off the Imperials temporarily.

I thought Holocrons stored recordings and other information. Snoke clearly isn’t a recording since he’s talking about real time events in TFA to both Kylo Ren and Hux.
I know disliking Starkiller for obvious reasons has been stated over and over, but it sorta hit me that if someone is marathoning Star Wars, there’s really no breather for when you see RotJ and then see TFA. Two mega laser stations getting blown consecutively up really does feel excessive. I still stand by my claims in previous posts that I think Starkiller made a significant stride over two Death Stars though.

A mind bending fun film! It gets points for keeping things vague enough to leave the audience with their own theories. The only thing I disliked was that it had some of those horror cliches where some characters are bred to be that asshole for the sake of being an asshole. Why not make them more likable? Other than that, I recommend it.
