STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

I found this Q&A article from 2010 by adywan. One of the questions he was asked was what would he change about the Battle of Endor and the Ewoks.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/swrevisited.wordpress.com/2010/11/04/adywan-facebook-q-and-a/amp/
If technology/existing footage weren’t an issue, what would you change about the Endor battle? Would you keep the Ewoks?

I’d make the Ewoks more vicious for one instead of looking like teddy bears play fighting and more troops during the ground battle. The choreography of the fighting wasn’t too good so i would reshoot most of the ground battle

Even though this is from 9 years ago, is the idea for the Ewoks being more vicious still being considered?

Originally, she was seen from behind and the side, and the swell of her breasts was drawn, but in the edited version, she is implied to be flat-chested.
Melody Time (1948) SF078-1214 - The later VHS and DVD releases were both cut and censored in the Pecos Bill segment.

How many good third movies in a trilogy can you name?
Time

Neglify said:

First off, here are two good movies that have yet to be mentioned…

Before Midnight (2013)
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)

Now that I’ve contributed positive content to this thread… what the frak is wrong with you people? Matrix Revolutions? Dark Knight Rises? Motherflipping Godfather Part III? Beyond Thunderdome? MOTHER OF TEARS? These are all terrible films that almost ruined good trilogies. Shame on all of you.

Tantive3+1 said:

Return of the Jedi
The Godfather Part III
The Dark Knight Rises
Matrix Revolutions
Mother of Tears

Looking at these film’s, why does mostly every director always make the third film of a trilogy the lowest point in the series?

These film’s were listed in bold because they were the lowest point (the worst) in the trilogies, not the best, and also to help start the thread off.

In the Rancor pit when the Rancor reaches towards the Gamorrean guard, it reaches for it with it’s right hand. But when Rancor grabs it, it does this with it’s left hand. Then when the Rancor eats the Gamorrean it’s holding it in it’s right hand again.

On Jabba’s sail barge, Luke gets shot in his mechanical hand. This leaves a large burn mark on the back of of his right hand. The wound is visible here before he’s about to swing to the skiff on the rope with Leia but in the next two images, the burn mark is gone.

When Han attempts to sneak up behind a Scout Trooper but steps on a twig alerting him to his presence the Scout Trooper quickly turns around and punches Han in the face. If you watch closely, you’ll notice that Han actually begins to recoil before the hit the even though the Scout Trooper never touches him.

During the Rancor scene, when a full frontal shot of it is shown as Luke tries to find a way out, you can see the puppeteer’s blue-clothed arm operating the Rancor on its left side (right for the viewer).

When Luke jumps off his speeder bike during the chase, you can clearly see him bouncing on a pad or cushion when he hits the ground.

When C-3PO gives himself up outside of the shield generator in preparation for the Ewok ambush, the Commander shouts "Bring those two down here". All shots below show that the Commander could only have seen C-3PO standing there as R2-D2 was completely out of sight from the Imperial forces.

So sorry for this VERY late reply as I had been away from my PC for a month with only my mobile phone and then had been very busy with other things afterwards. But all that’s been taken care of to where I can now put my full attention to this thread and will immediately respond to all posts with upcoming updates soon.

thatguamguy said:

The theatrical cut of “Blood Simple” was released on VHS (I would assume it was on laser disc but not sure). There was a DVD in R2 which restored some of the cut footage, but not all.

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=975
Added. It was also released on Laserdisc and the only thing missing in the Theatrical cut from the R2 UK Universal DVD is a dialogue sequence.

thatguamguy said:

Wes Craven’s (terrible) “Chiller” was released on a DVD which looked transferred from a VHS and was heavily cut. There was a German VHS release which was longer, though possibly still not uncut.

The original runtime of Chiller (1985) is 95 minutes. Besides the VHS, the only DVD release with this runtime is the R2 German united Video DVD release and while it’s the uncut longer version, it unfortunately only has German audio.

thatguamguy said:

“Hearts of Darkness”, the documentary of the making of “Apocalypse Now”, supposedly had a few small cuts made before Coppola would allow it to be released on DVD. The only specific references I have seen are that one reference to Harvey Keitel was cut, and Coppola singing “Anything Goes”. I’m hoping other people know more about this one.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0102015/alternateversions?ref_=m_tt_trv_alt
OK, added. But would anyone know if these cuts are the same for the Blu-ray?

thatguamguy said:

“Ishtar” might count – it’s only ever been officially released on DVD/Blu as a slightly shortened director’s cut, but technically the theatrical cut was pressed and a few copies trickled out even though the release was cancelled before the official release date.

The shortened Director’s cut was only released on Blu-ray while the full Theatrical cut was released on R2 DVD so it wouldn’t count.

thatguamguy said:

“The Muppet Movie” had a longer theatrical cut in the UK, released on VHS and nowhere else.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0079588/alternateversions
Added. There’s also a Laserdisc version.

thatguamguy said:

William Friedkin’s “Rampage” has never been released on DVD in region 1; the European version has had a DVD release, but the US cut is significantly different – I don’t know the differences, but I’m sure there’s some extra footage to qualify for this list. It was released on VHS, not sure of the LD status.

The US cut definitely qualifies. I’m currently working on a comparison right now with the original/european version. It will be added soon.

thatguamguy said:

Oliver Stone’s “Seizure” - DVD and Blu are the US PG cut, but there was a longer “R-rated” cut. There is a German VHS release, but according to movie-censorship.com it is very rare and might not be entirely uncut, though it seems like all they have to reference the what is missing.

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=28895
The longer R-rated cut was released on a German Blu-ray in a reconstructed format with footage from the German VHS.

thatguamguy said:

The unrated cut of Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” was only ever released on a Criterion laserdisc; supposedly, they’re working on a Bluray of it.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0091939/alternateversions

Added.

thatguamguy said:

Also, the “German cut” of “Psycho” is now being released on Blu-ray in a German box set, and the unrated cut of “Candyman” is being released by Shout Factory and Arrow, so those can be removed.

https://m.facebook.com/turbinemedien/posts/2618120658204239
https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/candyman-collector-s-edition?product_id=6876
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=29947
All have been verified, removed.

thatguamguy said:

Robert Altman’s “California Split” was cut for the DVD, but I’m not sure whether it was ever released in any format prior to that, so I don’t know if that would count.

The original version of the film was never released on any analog format (VHS, Laserdisc etc.).

When Vader’s shuttle exits the Star Destroyer in the beginning, it’s followed by two TIE fighters. The TIE fighters are far apartfrom each other, but in the next shot, they’re close together.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQB2NXfJev0&t=22s

When Vader arrives at the second DS and is talking to Moff Jerjerrod saying “Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them.” during the last two words Jerejerrod’s mouth is moving as if he were talking, but nothing is heard.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQB2NXfJev0&t=2m11s

When the Gamorrean guards take Chewbacca to his cell, you can plainly see that when the guard closes the door you can only hear it close. You can still see that it’s open.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRh5wPCq1DA&t=2m55s

When Leia runs to the shield generator in this scene as the doors are closing she fires a shot from her blaster. It smokes, but there’s no blaster shot coming out of the weapon or sound effect when it’s fired.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHf1HY2FN5k&t=2m53s

In this scene when Leia is shot, the burn mark is already on her poncho before she’s even shot.

From the inside of the rebel hangar it appears that the floor extends further into space than the roof as it goes past the walls on either side.

But from the outside, no such protrusion is visible.

In the Space battle when Lando says “Watch yourself, Wedge. Three from above.” then when Wedge says “Red 3, Red 2, pull in”, it is Green Leader who responds with “Got it”. Not someone from Red Group.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPZigWFyK2o&t=2m29s

When Lando says “Watch out! Squad at .06”, “Grey Leader” from the Y Wing squadron responds and destroys the TIE fighter. But Wedge (Red Leader) acknowledges this hit by saying “Good shot, Red 2”.

Here are some suggestions to work with now that the eyebrows has been settled.

Throughout the entire scene when C-3PO and R2 are in front of Jabba’s palace gate, overhead stagelights and the other side of the set are visible in the reflection of C-3PO’s head.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xas6vKJcZw&t=14s

Most particularly in this close up shot where not only the stagelights but also the film crew are clearly reflected from C-3PO’s head

When C-3PO and R2 appear in Jabba’s throne room, C-3PO goes down a flight of stairs with R2 following him but keeps on going. Then when he is approaching Jabba, R2 appears from the lower right corner.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xas6vKJcZw&t=2m21s

Also, when C-3PO AND R2 are approaching Jabba R2 has his third leg out; then when it cuts to the next shot it’s no longer deployed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xas6vKJcZw&t=2m21s

During the Sarlacc battle when R2 bumps into C-3PO you can see several wires actually pulling him as he falls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy85G-EuKQ4&t=2m15s

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/STAR-WARS-EP-VI-RETURN-OF-THE-JEDI-REVISITED-EDITIONADYWAN-NOW-IN-PRODUCTION/id/56441/page/43#1119336
The best solution would be to erase it. In this scene when Luke and Leia swing from the sail barge to the skiff, the birthmark is not visible here which shows that this is a stunt double.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy85G-EuKQ4&t=2m29s

When the Emperor arrives in the second DS and is speaking to Vader and says “Everything is preceeding as I have forseen” they are walking past a row of grey-suited officers. Then when it cuts to a wide-angle shot, there’re now in front of rows of stormtroopers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2F91Up9fT8&t=1m36s

When Han and Lando are talking to each other in the rebel hanger right before they depart, Lando’s gun belt across his chest changes sides during this scene showing that these shots were flipped.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWXVUJfSvDs&t=3m04s

When Han is running from the shield generator that’s about to explode yelling ‘MOVE!’, his reflection is visible behind him on what appears to be either a plexiglass or camera lens.

Theatrical

The matte for ANH:R was made to match closer to what Tatooine looked like in the PT.

No matter what kind of heated arguments this community can get into, I just wanted to say I love how we can have a civil, in-depth debate on the merits of keeping or removing a character’s eyebrows.

It’s about Ben and Luke’s father and Vader when they are young Jedi knights. But Vader kills Luke’s father, then Ben and Vader have a confrontation, just like they have in Star Wars, and Ben almost kills Vader. As a matter of fact, he falls into a volcanic pit and gets fried and is one destroyed being. That’s why he has to wear the suit with a mask, because it’s a breathing mask. It’s like a walking iron lung. His face is all horrible inside. I was going to shoot a close-up of Vader where you could see the inside of his face, but then we said, no, no, it would destroy the mystique of the whole thing.

So I guess it would make more sense for his eyebrows to be burned off.

Hi adywan,

As a suggestion for this scene I would say to use the original unaltered face of Sebastian Shaw without the eyebrows.
