I think the idea of a deserter Jedi other than Anakin could have been interesting, but they didn't play with the duality nearly as much as they could have.

The guy does have the distinction ONE Sith who doesn't go absolute batsh*t when he duels. At least, in comparison to his cohorts.

You know, the prequel trilogy had too many characters. Especially antagonists. Had Dooku been the only one, apart from Sidious, this might be a different conversation.

Tru dat. He would've been more interesting if they'd actually gone with the moral ambiguity they hinted at in AOTC, and had been sincere in his plea to Obi-Wan in prison. They basically threw ambiguity out the window once he started talking smack at the Jedi in the arena.

He'd have sort of an arc throughout the trilogy:

Ep. 1 - Dooku (instead of Sidious) appears as the mastermind behind the villains' army. Years ago he couldn't substantiate his claims about the presence of the dark side in the Republic, and the Jedi fear he is mentally unsound and may have fallen to the dark side himself.

Ep. 2 - Dooku's forces appear to be preparing for war. When confronted by the Jedi, he insists that he will save the Republic and the Jedi from the evil they can't see. Now convinced of his madness, the Jedi attempt to subdue him, and he reluctantly fights them as he attempts to make his escape.

Ep. 3 - Dooku (instead of Grievous) is on the run, growing more desperate as his forces clash with the Republic. At last Ben has him cornered - only for his own troops to barge in and attempt to kill them both. It seems Palpatine has convinced the public that Dooku never really left the Jedi Order, but was secretly building his army for the Order so they could make a power play. Both realizing they'd been played, Ben and Dooku together try to rally any remaining Jedi for a final stand. Dooku finally falls in the ensuing battle against Vader and his troops.

That would be great! I honestly don't know why Lucas didn't go with THAT!

Surely this might have been a little easier than creating a different antagonist each movie, each one basically filling a position that the last could have.

Happy New Year!
Time

I'm over an hour in.

I will remember this year as the year I discovered Benedict Cumberbatch, the year of the first government shut down in a while, and the year I discovered that Avatar: The Last Airbender Season One is nearly impossible to adapt into a successful movie.

Look forward to seeing what 2014 has in store.

Also, the year that Fox assured us that Santa is white.

A New Hope DVD Color Correction (*unfinished project * - a mass of information)
Time

Neverar, you have no need to apologize with work like this! This is easily the best color correction effort I've seen, since I love the look of the Senator projection so much. The warm feeling just looks great on the footage, and is such a great contrast to the cold, red look of the GOUT which I'm so used to.

Keep it up.

Give Star Wars a break for 6 months or more...watch with a critical eye

It's been a while since I watched Star Wars....so I watched Harmy's excellent Despecialized work, I must say I was still very impressed with the movie, the original despecialized elements looked great.

The only thing that did jump out at me was the wobbly sets on the Death Star,....they really did spoil the experience for me.....enough for me to post this.

The fast door that Luke shuts as he entered the hanger control room....you can see that it bounces or settles weirdly as though it was made of plywood.

The Trash compactor scene looks off because the walls move in non-mechanically, you can tell that theres a group of guys pushing the walls in....

....anyway.....Seasons Greatings

This isn't watching with a critical eye-

That is pure nitpicking.

By critical eye I thought you meant plot-holes or flaws or things in the story that don't make sense.

Anyone can watch a film and pick apart the little visual flaws. If we judged films by all the things that look fake, Star Wars would be on the bottom 100.

The reason people like it (or did back then anyway) is because of the memorable characters and well-paced story.

What I'm saying is, bad effects or flimsy sets shouldn't ruin an experience for you.

Star Wars special edition VHS restoration (* unfinished project *)
Time

Wrong section. Also, how's this for a better profile. An attention getter. Something to really inform and hype what you're doing. Something like-

A number of us here at OT.com, while liking the original versions, also have a soft spot for the 1997 cuts of this ever-so-special trilogy. However, the continual edits from Mr. Lucas meant that several changes were enacted for the 2004 DVD. Now, there do exist several high-quality versions of these cuts, but some of us have overwhelming nostalgia for the original analog formats they were released on. Thus, I found it necessary to work on a preservation effort of the original VHS tapes.

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)
Time

Honestly, the harder they try, the less imposing the villain'll be.

I find Sauron in the 1978 version to be far more imposing than Sauron in the Peter Jackson version, and you know why?

I find Sauron's design over-the-top trying to be scary. What with the spikes all over his uniform, and the over-the-top death.

In the 1978 film, however, he's never seen, and carries more of a presence because of it.

That's why I think the Emperor works. Two films of buildup, and his design isn't too over-the-top (even if his voice is), but he's still imposing when he shocks Luke with lightning from his fingertips.
