30 minutes left to go in Blade Runner 2049…

…and somehow there’s been three more scenes with completely unnecessary female nudity. While I disagree with the justification provided for the initial scene, at least I understand why y’all would make it. These three, I see zero reason for them and I’d love to hear you try to justify them this time.

And with 30 minutes to go, I’ll say that unless the ending blows me a way, I’m a little underwhelmed overall. I think it’s kinda the exact same issue I had with the original. It’s a good movie, no question, but people are going ape shit over how fantastic it is and I just don’t see it. In my view the actual experience has not lived up to the hype.

Here’s a fun picture.

From: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/trump-jerusalem-w520292

Though the Trump administration is celebrating Monday’s official opening of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, the move does not appear to have brought about any semblance of peace. An estimated 35,000 Palestinians lined the fence separating the Gaza Strip and Israel in protest, and at least 52 have been killed by Israeli Defense Forces. At least 2,000 have been injured, according to Palestinian officials and the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Also time travel implications.

Why is that political?

We could find out what Clinton would have been like.

I think we have a pretty good idea.

I think we’re not sure about that.

Well apparently you didn’t have a good idea what Trump would be like even though it was super obvious he’d be exactly what he is, so I dunno, maybe you’re just not good at this sort of thing.

Third parties have no hope whether or not we observe that they can’t win, until we change the political system to permit them to win. And voting for them really doesn’t qualify as changing the political system, it’s just easier.

This. And also it’s like the similar point above that “no one should vote, that’ll teach 'em.” Sounds great, won’t ever happen.

Hillary’s loss isn’t just Hillary’s fault. It is, but it is also the fault of the Democratic National Committee. A lot of people hated Hillary because of perceived corruption on her part, and the fact that the DNC railroaded Bernie and Hillary then hired Debbie Schultz afterward didn’t help such perceptions.

Yes, it’s her fault. And the DNC’s fault. And Comey. And the Fox News/Infowars/Breitbart ecosystem. And Russia. And Wikileaks. And Facebook/Twitter. And racists. And sexists. And on and on and on. And it’s all true, all of it.

The election was way too close to pretend there was one just one thing to blame, or even just a few things.

Just for you, Frink (and I guess Dom too?) I’m going to try to sum up the show as best I can:

200 years from now, humanity has conquered the Solar System. The United Nations on Earth and the Martian Congressional Republic on Mars are the two main powers in the system, each one hoping for dominant control over the other, while the settlers in the Asteroid Belt and moons of the Outer Planets are used and oppressed by both sides for the resources of the Belt, upon which both Earth and Mars depend for survival. As the Belters begin to coalesce and unite under the various factions of the Outer Planets Alliance (seen as a terrorist group by both Earth and Mars), a tragedy on a Belter ice hauling vessel Canterbury starts to bring the already built-up tensions across the system to a boil, while a Ceres Station police officer’s investigation into the disappearance of a well-connected Earth woman with ties to Belt sympathizers brings connections to the Canterbury incident to light. Both the survivors of the Canterbury (James Holden and his crewmates) and Detective Miller start to untangle a web of conspiracy and race to prevent a system-wide war, while an existential threat to all of humanity lurks behind it all…

I can’t take the time to read all that, can you just import the show directly to my brain?

I think voting for none of the above is a meaningful choice. Third parties have little hope if we must insist they can’t win. I get the pragmatic consideration of picking somebody who can win, who is even marginally better, but there are other valid ways of weighing who to vote for.

I’m fine with Frink or whoever else thinking it’s crazy, but in the last election I didn’t see a marginally better choice.

Do you still feel that way now?

The notion that everybody should obviously have voted for Clinton is nonsense. I think all of America should have refrained from voting in 2016.
