That’s like one of my major issues, Han bounced back and forth from coward to Mr smug dude but never actually developed or changed…

I didn’t mind that because that’s how he was at the start of ANH, his arc is there, not here.

If he only has an arc in the next movie then why would you make this one? Like I’m not saying he should have the same arc twice but he has to be well written for the movie to work, right?

Agreed. I’m sorry but I kind of need to see our lead character have a well developed arc for me to be invested in the movie and I felt nothing with this Han in Solo.

It seems to me that complaints of this type usually come down to feelings, I didn’t feel this or I didn’t get that. Which is fine, that’s your right, but it seems to me that you’re kinda ignoring stuff that’s actually in the film because of it.

Basically like this:

I also want to hit on how Han Solo really has no consistent development in the movie. I did not see a big arc for him in the movie. And when he said “No, I’m a terrible person”, I was just flabbergasted. The whole exchange there was trying to paint Han Solo in this jaded anti-hero way, when really, in the context of his actions in Solo, there is absolutely no reason to see him as anything else than a good guy. Not even close to an anti-hero, or the roguish, jaded Han Solo that we meet in A New Hope. It felt like the movie was trying to shove it down our throats that yeah, Han Solo is jaded and not a good person!

And how stupid is it that Solo is basically the one who helped jumpstart the Rebellion at the end of the movie.

Sorry for my complaining, I genuinely understand how people enjoyed it, but many aspects of how they dealt with Solo as a character felt off to me. I’d love to hear how some of you guys interpreted things differently from me.

You misread what was going on. The movie wasn’t trying to paint him as a jaded outlaw, he was. In the text of the film he’s basically trying hard to be Han Solo, that’s the point. But he’s not there yet.

I still think it’d be nice to add a bit of the Imperial March to the scene when Vader arrives on the Tantive, though that would mean replacing a small bit of original music.

I already created a brief edit to show what that might look and sound like. It’s minimalist, but it works.

That’s simply perfect. It nicely fixes up something that always felt missing without disrupting the integrity of the scene. Also, it fits in quite nicely, well done.

I prefer the original audio.

Good for you, I guess?.. I am not sure why you would tell me this

Probably because that’s how discussion forums work. Just guessing though.

Leia is one of the most recognisable characters in cinema history, as is Lando; both of which are amazing characters who serve an important purpose.

Leia is nearly the only female presence in the entire OT and is also third banana to Luke and Han.

Go further forward and you have Padme, literal Queen of an entire planet and an extremely strong politician who’s integral to the story arc of an entire trilogy.

Except in ROTS, where her character arc is have two babies and then give up on them.

Race and gender have never been an issue in Star Wars, ever. Why we’re suddenly pretending it is is silly.

TPM has multiple race issues.

You’re welcome to respond to this (TM Ric Olie) but just be aware I’m not saying another thing on any of these (especially the last one) because it’s the wrong thread and it’s been beaten to death elsewhere.

Saw Solo in a almost empty theatre at 20h30, which doesn’t bode well for the box office. I liked it for the most part, although in the larger scheme of things it’s pretty inconsequential, which in it’s own way is sort of a sad state for a Star Wars film to be.

I don’t think it’s intended to be consequential though? There was never a side-story aspect to a SW film before RO, and even that one has big stakes that lead right into ANH.

It means everything you said was obvious. Ric Olie = Captain Obvious.

I was just mentioning the connotation in my country. It was obvious it had nothing to do with yours.

So… like your other posts in here, it was nothing to do with footy then. Right.

Seems you have the quite the knack for taking threads off-topic / derailing them.

It was tangentially related for one thing, it’s not like it came out of nowhere and it’s not like I posted something completely unrelated to anything that was said here.

Also I thought this part of the forum was going to see some relaxed moderation after the other part was split off? Or not, I guess.

It just seemed to be a step back after the steps forward from the previous movies. I don’t mean to say that the writers are actively sexist or anything, I just thought it was… well idk what word I’m looking for.

while I don’t agree it’s a step back at all, I understand why it could seem that way to some given that TFA and RO both featured the first ever female lead characters for SW.
