No, I think you have me mixed up with someone else. The version I have is not anamorphic, nor am I asking $60 for it. BTW there is no email address listed above. Also, when you buy from me, you are not just paying for the discs; you are paying for the time involved with the project plus the risk involved in bringing you the set safely. The proceeds are also going to help fund a new dual layer ultimate transfer later this year, complete with all the bells & whistles plus as many bonus features as I can find. If this still offends you, I'm sorry; plenty of others want these movies in their true format on DVD, and are not concerned with minutiae or petty moralizing. I don't mean to sound condescending, it's just the facts.

I just now noticed you also post on thedvdetective forums, not sure if you have seen me there or not. Yes, I do buy legit releases also

I actually DID email about that set and I believe it was the guy that runs that site that told me about your set. I thought it was you who emailed me back (I posted the email above) and I was so disgusted by how much he wanted to rip me off for the set. I emailed him back and told him I would pay for the DVD-r's only and he never responded. I guess that wasn't you?

Yes...i'm on the dvddetective forums. Kinda just got on it. I have a good amount of imported DVD's but haven't used their services yet. Not too many that I still need. Mostly japanese releases.

an update: i got the supplements disc. VERY nice menus! I continue to be VERY impressed with this set.

These torrent files are the same thing as the aforementioned anamorphic versions, and they are good but not as good as the versions I have. I'm kind of surprised someone would spend so much time and effort making nice menus and authoring them in 16:9 with the original LD markers as chapter stops only to use a mediocre LD player (DVL 919) to transfer them with.
.

How do you know which LD player was used to make them?

And as was stated beforehand...the visual quality is very similar. Personally, I'd rather have nice menus, chapter stops, the commentaries (though they are sparse at best). Shows the person put a lot of effort into the presentation. And I'm really amazed at the quality.

Again...i'm very curious to know how much you are charging people for your set...IF you're not the poster that was mentioned above. Because that guy was ripping people off and I told him so.

www.torrentbox.com is back online now and they have all 4 files.

Yes I posted this above. I'm in the process of getting the other 3 right now. Can't wait! I already have some people lined up to trade copies with!

To Bossk:
A torrent is a small file that allows you to download via a p2p app called bittorrent. Basically you open the file and it downloads.. there's no gui or control over the speeds. Go to suprnova.org to see some of these files.

Hello again.. I just received the anamorphic version today and wanted to point out the differences between this set and mine. While the discs are authored more professionally (nice menus and more chapter stops), the audio has been compressed from the 448k PCM to 192k DD 2.0 and there is a definate sound difference: The low end is not nearly as present and the audio fidelity is not as sharp or loud, it seems a bit muffled in comparison. The picture is slightly brighter and more noisy than mine, and appears to be a bit softer as well. It also seems whoever made this set also turned the contrast up somewhat. It is very close in terms of quality to mine but not quite as good. It does have the benefit of possessing the audio commentary, which is nice but not essential. It is also correctly flagged as being an anamorphic display and the black bars are reencoded (not the LD bars), and the subtitles are different because of this. All in all a nice job: RowMan's review basically sums up the rest of the differences not mentioned here. I am now going to offer both versions and allow the buyers to choose which one they want: both will come with the 4th disc which is the same.

Sweyland, thanks for the review. There are some very minor problems with the discs, but they are minimal at best. The new DVD9 set, if/when it is produced, will not have any errors. As far as techincal details about the capturing/encoding, I can't answer them because I didn't make the transfer as stated above.

Thanks for the praise. I am planning on having the person who made the current artwork make a bonus disc cover better than the one I have currently, but thanks for the offer.

I may consider shipping internationally soon, but for now, Ive got too much on my plate to handle any extra projects. TR47, I took the liberty of redesigning the bonus disc cover art, if you are interested in it, I can send it to you. I basically got rid of "return of the jedi" across the top, and replaced it with "star wars". On the bottom, I got rid of "bonus" and replaced it with "the definiteve collection bonus materials. I am going to go one step further, however, and totallly new design of the bonus disc cover art.

Ive had a chance to look at all 4 dvds, and I must say Im VERY IMPRESSED. I had created my own DVDs with a Panasonic DMRE50 recorder, and those were great, but I think these may have an edge in the compression. These have slighty less digital artifacting, especially when it come to fast motion. I highly reccomend them to anyone considering.

Thanks for the glowing review. Anamorphic widescreen would be problematic at best to create as the original LDs were not made this way, and as Patrick & Mackey have already mentioned it tends to crop the picture. Later this year dual layer dvd burners are going to premiere and I have begun tentative plans to have a new transfer made by the same person who created the current transfer once the burners are commonplace. This time, better encoders will be used (hardware) and it will not be from DV format (meaning no vertical banding artifacts [red shift to the right]), it will be a direct capture with a similar adjustment of color/brightness/contrast as the current transfer. Also, better noise and anti aliasing filters will be used, a better LD player will be used (Pioneer CLD-99) and of course it will have the original PCM audio and most likely the commentary track since we will be using DVD9 discs. Menus are also planned to be included as well as numerous chapter stops. The creator might attempt an anamorphic conversion, but I have no idea how well that would work. This is all speculation so far; I will keep this forum updated of any significant progress of this ultimate goal, but please do not ask any more details as none are known yet.

Please contact me directly either by PM or here if you want more info. I do provide a disc with many different covers, insert and disc art templates to choose from. As for screen shots, I did a comparison of mine to the ones posted at the Star Wars LD to DVD Project page here. Feel free to compare them yourself, but they're almost identical (I think mine are still better, though). The transfers I have did not have the gamma increased like those did so they appear slightly darker. I have viewed the actual LD myself and the transfers I have are almost identical, there is no significant difference. I did notice the stars are there in the opening sequence but they're faint; maybe this is because of the slight loss in capturing the data..? Here are more screen shots, they are the same scenes as the ones at the link above (except the last one, which is for Phaedeus):

They're one disc a piece, I can't spread them out to 2 discs since I didn't make them. They don't really need to be, anyway. Once you watch them you will know why. Here are a few different shots:

hey TR47 is there anyway you could take a screenshot of another scene... i mean that ones nice and all but it makes the transfer look too dark what with the background and everything...

anyway could you get another done to show the contrast...
i dont know where the edge starts and stops...
thx in advance

i second that tr47. if you could scan a pic of the opening yellow text crawl so i can see what that's like, it would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. - i sent you an e-mail about whether or not you could put the movies over 2 discs per movie (as in one disc per side - or are there more than 2 sides for the definitive collection?) instead of all on one disc and never got a reply back. if yours are really from the definitive collection, that would mean you could put the commentary on the discs as well....or at least have more disc space to get a better picture. to be honest i'm not really sure 2 or more discs would be an improvement, but it would at least be a faithful representation of th DC laserdiscs.

just a thought.

btw - if anyone is interested in the preservation of the SW LD's on DVD, DVDR Help has a thread dedicated to help people create their own "backup" editions of the OT. There's also this site dedicated to transfering the best possible edition of the OT LDs onto DVD. He needs as much help as we can give him.

Hope this helps.

I hate to tell you this, but you got ripped off big time... if you compared my version to yours you'd want your money back from the ebay seller.

I must confess, I bought a copy of the SE bootleg sets over a year ago. I didn't want to spend a ton of money for the OT which they were going for at the time, so I settled for the SE sets. Was pleased with the quality, not over-whemled. Basically, this was a way to tied me over till they officially came out on DVD. Now I'm fine with the SE sets, though I prefer the OT. I just can't stand a few new scenes in them (the Han scene, Jabba, and in ROTJ the band scene. I like everything else though, but do prefer the OT. Lucas has really pissed me off with his statements towards the OT which prompted to write a letter in which I got a response (supposively) from one of his secretaries. I will most likely buy the official SE sets (there's rumors of other changes which I'm interested in) but I'll buy it second hand so he won't see MY MONEY.

Since he announced the release of the SE edition I was happy at 1st but a little mad later. Like everybody else I WANT the OT on DVD. I feel out of respect towards his fans he should release them. He obviously doesn't need the money he'd make from them, or else he would have done it a while ago. Hey George, here's an idea, since you hate the OT so much release them and give ALL the money to charity. I'm still hoping he will release the OT as part of the Ultimate Editions sets rumored to be released in a few years. When they were selling the VHS sets for the "last time" I didn't really think he meant it. Obviously he does.

So this prompted me to buy the OT bootleg sets now. I paid around $55 for the set, so I'm happy about it. Here's a link to the set I bought. Watched it over the weekend, the quality IMO isn't has good as DVD but pretty damn close. There seems to be pauses throughout the film, which isn't that big of a deal its only for a split second. The sound is really nice, I'm able to listen to it in 5.1 surround sound. So that's my take on my experience with the bootleg sets. Let me know if you have any more questions about the OT set I bought.

I sent you the details via PM. Please, do not buy anything from ebay! Most of them are nothing more than DVDR copies of the bad asian set which is about 4 years old.

Do you have any details?

Price?

Shipping?

Location?

Sorry if I sound rude or forward, but I'm anxious!

The cropping/framing is the same, they were taken in different file formats originally then combined into 1 JPG by me. I didn't capture the pictures so I can't offer any other info about them. I have seen every asian set of Star Wars in existence and they are terrible in comparison to what the actual LDs look like, especially the 2 non SE versions out there. The "5 star" version is ok but they cranked the brightness and contrast and because of that they look poor. Trust me, my set is far better than the one DCS bought. As far as extras I have a 4th DVD with all the extras from the '93 LD set, so it is complete. PM me if you are interested.

TR47, I've tried contacting you via PMs and email, but I've yet to recieve any reply. Shall I try again, or are you just not interested in dealing with a Brit?
