Star Wars Prologue - Epic Prequel Edit (Released)
Time

Watched like 40 minutes of it, and while it first started as a refreshing and bold fanedit, it quickly became a mess.

For example: maybe I'm a bit slow between the ears.... but why rotoscoping out Jar Jar in the scene where he goes in the water (the one with his big cartoony jump)... if you keep the splash? Why the fucking splash is left here? I tried and tried to get an answer to that, but came with nothing. If someone can explain, I'd like it.

And you just can't have OB1 and Quigon entering the water for no reason (although just maybe to hide from the Federation, all right) and in the next scene with them, they are at the Naboo Palace. Going from underwater in a forest to the Palace needs an explanation. I like movies that let the audience do the thinking, but there are limits.

Too bad because I thought the begining of the edit was pretty interesting (although a lot of weak sound and music transitions). There are some clever cuts in the first 30 minutes (even if it felt more like a Clone Wars episode than a movie. But I like Clone Wars!), but then the following minutes completely destroyed the thing for me: random short scenes to lead the audience to the flashback ("13 years earlier" text above the picture).

Maybe I'll give a try to the rest of the edit, as the first minutes showed some bold and refreshing ideas like starting in the middle of the war and trying to hide Anakin's indentity, but I really think the faneditor got overwhelmed by his vision.

What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)
Time

In fact a prequel trilogy without Yoda, but with the Jedi constantly refering to him as the "big boss" of all Jedi would surely even increase the surprise of the puppet in ESB.

Having a chronological order should not be a problem for a good storyteller, to preserve surprise and play with the audience. On the contrary, it should have been the strenght of the prequels:

Can you imagine the fun of a father showing the prequels to his son, and his son saying to him "Wow, this Yoda guy they all talk about is surely a powerful warrior! Hope we'll see him!". You know what I mean.

Instead we, well, we had a powerful warrior Yoda, indeed... and the fun is gone. I'm sure the kid from my exemple would prefer the "size does not matter" lesson without having in mind: "Size does not matter: because even small you can always jump everywhere twirling your lightsaber and throwing force lightning at your ennemy's face. Having high Midichlorian count in your blood is a plus".

I know that for a child, action in movie is fun. But A child is a learning machine, he always prefer to learn something. Lucas somehow forgot that. He wanted to make the prequels for children, but it's not even that, IMO. As some other said, there not for child, they're childhish. At the OT time, every child wanted to LEARN  the force. When you are powerful, because you have more midichlorians in your blood, the fun is gone, specialy for kids.

Oh, and kids do not always like kids to be the main protagonist. When I was young I surely would die to be Short Round, but in fact I really wanted to be Indy, not the kid beside him. So yes, Starting with Anakin as a kid was not a good idea. Even for a movie "made for kid".

Jesus, that was a long time I did not write that long about the prequels. I guess I can remain silent a while now. :)

Star Wars Inconsistencies
Time

Something that always bugged me in Star Wars are the holographic transmissions.

For some reason the "hologram person" often looks right at the eyes of the person he speaks to. And this is not always possible.

Let's suppose Obi is speaking to the Jedi Council, shown by little hologram in front of him with all the members. Once we see the scene FROM the council chamber, seeing Obi Wan turning his head right and left depending to whom he's talking to is not possible. Because Obi don't see the council members as big holograms all around him.

I know Star Wars is not pure Science Fiction, and this is a way to not loose the audience too much, but it's wrong, continuity wise.

Interesting prequel critique

Darth Bizarro said:

The prequels didn't ruin the original trilogy.  If you don't like them, then don't watch them.  It's as simple as that.  Alien 3 doesn't ruin Aliens for me, because I don't watch it.  I don't let the Jaws sequels ruin Jaws for me nor do I let the Matrix sequels ruin The Matrix.

While I agree with your arguments, don't forget that you can't watch the original trilogy in good quality without at least some bits of prequels inside (Hayden in EP6 for example). So I think I can understand someone saying that the prequels ruins the OT for him. It's not just the fact the prequels exist, it's the fact they are now mixed with the OT.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

LFL were so anal about the french dubbing that, in the PT, they changed back to normal some characters names that were different from the old dubs made for the OT.

You could say it's a good thing that C-3PO is now really called C-3PO and not Z-6PO in the PT, but in france we knew 3PO as 6PO (sounds better than 3PO in french). So you end with two trilogy of movies with some characters that are named differentely. Now that's really dumb. Specialy for the droids. I'm sure some people did not realize immediately that 3PO was... 6PO

And now I fear new french dubs for the OT to make everything in line with the PT and removed from our french memory some characters names that we were used to.

Strangely, in the PT, Darth Vader is still called Dark Vador, and all the Darth are "Dark". I guess LFL somehow thought that "Vador" is a better known name in france than 6PO, so they changed 6PO and not Vador in the PT.

Damn, their logic is complicated. I need cigarette.

Let's get back on topic on the blu-ray box set which deleted scenes are you most looking forward to the most? For me it's Luke putting together his lightsaber from ROTJ and the wampa attack from ESB as well as the endor bunker scene from ROTJ as well as any of the deleted scenes from A New Hope and the prequel films.

Thanks for getting us back on topic lets see. I guess Im only loking forward to just a little bit on the disc like all 6 movies and the deleted scenes from the prequel films as well as A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back and especially Return of the Jedi. I cant wait to this complete blu-ray set comes out on its release day September 16, 2011 with DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1. Nah just kidding theirs really not much I'm looking forward too.

Beat me to it.

So you pretty much want to see everything eccept the sand storm scene, Ken.

Why the hate?

SDCC Star Wars Deleted Scenes Montage!!

Does "The War of the Stars" ring any bells? :P

Think TMBTM will ever reconsider re-doing that with these new deleted scenes? They still seem grindhouse-y but just in color. Then he could have a chance to improved the aged film effect that was absent on the Interactive Boardgame clips.

That's something I can think about. Although I don't particulary like making "version 2" of my fanedits (exept for the silent Star Wars versions).

But considering I made a mistake in letting white lines effects above the black bars at the begining of my edit, maybe it'll be an "excuse" to fix everything.

The thing I could not change (I think) is the black and white intro with the camera zooming to luke.

I imagine all of the training and experiences he's gone through until that point.

Agree, but the thing is that it is pretty explicit in ROTJ that he never saw Yoda since he left him at the end of ESB. ("promise to an old friend", him asking about Vader being is father, Yoda being surprised that Vader told Luke about it, etc...). So everything he learned to be close to the Jedi master level, he learned by myself.

Joe Johnston wants to make a Boba Fett movie
Time

Put this story after ROTJ. Like in the comic books, make him escaping the Sarlacc.

Add Mark Hamill's  cameo when Fett is finaly captured by the alliance and then he force them to not put him in jail because he knows hidden places where Empire's Troops are Hidding.

Add a twist with an old Mace Windu also not dead (with a hook in place of his right hand. Or better, a light saber directly connected to his brain) So Fett could have his revenge for Mace killed his father.

Or not...

what are you sourcing from? i heard the dvd movie had a just  one channel for music, which would be handy if the series was the same.

I’m using the Blu Rays.  So far the primary dialogue and sound effects are on the center channel with the music and secondary sound effect on the right and left channels.

If only the trilogies boxset could be like this.
