I don't know 7 people on this picture, is that normal, or am I just getting old?

Oh, it's completely normal. After all, modern teenybopper crap is completely forgettable (unless they shove it in your face and try to force-feed it to you).

The only person (besides our beloved Stars) I'm sure about is Miley Cyrus.  And having been a late 90's Disney kid, I think I recognize that blonde girl on the left.

EDIT:  Wait a minute, those blonde kids on the right... is one of them the kid from Big Daddy?

Glad I posted that pic I found. Turns out trolling can be fun! (Evil laugh, throwing back of neck and rubbing of hands in glee)

I also only recognise the OT ancient ones and Miley but it was difficult to be sure if it was her because usually her tongue is sticking out (I'm starting to think she has some kind of medical problem that means her tongue is used to regulate body temperature like a dog).

But despite the joke I think the choices of costumes for the OT 3 are actually not too far off the mark. Luke would be better in black but Leia in a Mon Mothma senate uniform seems about right.

This started Mr. Lucas on the long trend of combining characters for narrative efficiency that eventually gave us (General  Vader+Prince Valorum+Starkiller=Darth Vader) and Leia as Luke's sister.

You know, I think I just realized the fundamental problem with the prequels...

The rushed time frames the scripts were produced in.

You need to have time for rewrites, because you need to get the script to that level of quality that comes when you revise it from the script.

You don't start the script in pre-production, you start pre-production once you've finished the script.

(for the record, I'm in the middle of a massive rewrite of my own script right now, and it's rather cleansing)

This is why I'm glad if the new movies miss the original planned release date/year (Despite having to wait longer). It shows Disney care more about the quality of the story than hitting a deadline. But that's waaay off topic.

Omnibus editions are fine these days, but with vintage material you lose all the ads and the letters page. A real snapshot of the time the comics originally ran in, and what was on the fan's minds.

Very true. I grew up reading 2000AD/Judge Dredd and loved all the adds and letters each week. But that had 5 or 6 running stories to keep you going and the next part of the story was only 7 days away. I could never get into the US model of reading a few pages and then waiting a month for the next few. My ideal is an Alan Moore size opus that you need a crane to lift and a couple of weeks to soak up ;-).

For example, I could never love Moore's acclaimed 'The Killing Joke' because it's so short. It felt like asking Michaelangelo to sketch a fresco on the back of a stamp.

Anybody know how long/many pages 'The Star Wars' is gonna be in total?

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)
Time

IMO McDiarmid was amazing in ROTS, note perfect in fact. But it was the terrible, terrible makeup, script, CGI additions to his eyes, CGI body doubles, soft lighting, CGI lighting, editing, plotting, Ligtsaber design, presence of Lightsaber, Lightsaber choreography, pacing, costume, sets etc etc that let him down (Let me know if I left anything out).

The voice had nothing to do with it.*

Go watch the long shots in Palps office at around 01hr18mins, where you can't see how bad the makeup is and it's damn good. You also have to remember that Lucas no longer has the ability to judge a good take from the bad ("You will know!"), all he can see is wether they are reading the lines out as he's written.

(*However, if you listen, Lucas completely f*cked with his voice in post-production too. Massively deepening it at points to near comic levels.)

The depiction of Palpatine in ROTS has really soured my opinion of McDiarmid's interpretation of the character over the years. There's no way in hell that over-the-top, pseudo-homoerotic bullshit would have ever come to pass if they'd stuck with a Clive Revill-styled Palpatine.

Yes a transgender Palpatine would have been much less homoerotic.

I'm gonna wait to get the DVD until they do a special edition with some extra features. I usually expect classic Who DVDs to be bursting with bonus content so finding out the current EOTW release has zero, was a disapointment.

I guess this is down to rush releasing it for the anniversary.

Episode VI: Return of the Ridiculousness
Time

Another Doctor Who idea... as the Emperor falls down the DS2 core the footage starts to rotate and it fades into the spinning Dr Who time vortex and music.

Also cut in the post credits 'Masters of the universe' scene just after Palpatine hits the bottom (But with Ian McDiarmid dubbed over Frank Langella)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6hCCPCkIg4

obviosuly you'd need to do a quick colour correct to turn the shot from pink to blue.

Any chance we can have the Speeder bikes redubbed wth inappropriate dirt bike engine noises kinda like the wrong engine sound from 'Airplane' or this scene...

Or just over the top car sounds like in this Python sketch...

Also can the door droid eye thing from Jabba's palace be a Dalek? For that matter can Palpatine be Davros?

Watching 'The Enemy of the World' at last.

If any newer fans are wondering where to dip their toes into the early B&W era this would be a good place as Patrick Troughton is so clearly the inspiration for Matt Smith's performance in this serial. I kept expecting Troughton to say "Timey, wimey" or something.

Has a great dark story, the photography and lighting is gorgeous, the sixties costumes look great (Especially on the 60s era babes!) and Troughton is awesome as the evil Dictator Salamander.

But if it was a set photo from some as yet unseen Wampa footage I'm trying to imagine how Luke would have fitted in. Did he have to do a bit of Wampa shooting between blowing up the AT-AT and getting to his rendezvous with R2 and his X-Wing?

This is specifically why I said that promotional photos can depict things that aren't in the film. Like, not even in the script. Just here's a gun, here's Mark dressed as Luke, let's take a picture.

 Obviously

That second photo is definitely Luke's costume from the medal ceremony sans jacket.

Yes but we never got to see him kickin' ass in those clothes or wielding a lightsaber in anger. Plus what does Luke's personnal firearm look like? I'm gonna choose to believe it looks like this when he takes it from the holster...

It also bugs me when people confuse "stuff" and "things", or "much" and "many", saying "I have so much things, I don't know what to do with it all," instead of "I have so many things, I don't know what to do with them all."

By the way, this episode of Graham Norton is hilarious as Miriam Margolyes corrects Will.i.am for saying "Like" incorrectly...

...bless him for taking it so well.

James Bond 007 Thread

^ That is a pretty "soft" definition of a reboot as you say.

In those terms, arguably Dalton's bond was more of a reboot that Brosnan. Dalton's bond was deadly serious (Yet still fun, unlike the Craig era) but Brosnan's bond always had a little of the old-skool camp and plumped-new-depths/reached-new-heights (Depending on your taste) of smutty innuendo.

Man, I wish there was some strawberry-rhubarb pie somewhere in the house.

Never had rhubarb crumble and custard? it's delish!

(I'm uncertain if we're posting euphemisms or are genuinely discussing rhubarb. Either way it's good lol)
