Maybe by the end of the year. Or the next.

It really shows how bad of a job they did editing this film seeing as how it's taking so long for Ady to fix all these errors. Oh well. ESB Despecialized 2.0 will hold me over until then.

They probably took a great deal of care but errors happen in all movies, with no relationship between the amount of errrors, to how great the film is. It's just that we watch these 3 movies a hundred times more often than other films, so we spot more. People are employed on film crews with the sole job of trying to minimise these errors.

That is true, but this project was started 6 years ago...I'm just saying it's sad that a fan is doing better at editing a film than people in the industry.

I guess you mean more the SE team, than the original ESB team. Even so, I thought Adywan wasn't changing a single edit (As far as I'm aware?). The editing is and was perfect IMO.

Episode VII Cast List Announced
Time

For ease of working (And since I didn't immediately find another website that had done it yet) here is a quick gallery I did of the new-ish faces (Or those faces who own less famous names)...

(Assuming the OT cast, Serkis and Sydow aren't new to anybody here)

Daisy Ridley - Don't recall seeing her in anything?

John Boyega - Pretty good in 'Attack the Block'.

Adam Driver - Seen the face but not anything that face has been in... but I like the face.

Oscar Isaac - Amazing in every film he is cast in (Even in the bad films). Awesome sauce!

Brian Gleeson - A very memorable performance in 'Dredd' 2012.

This cast list really fills me with confidence and there isn't a single wtf?!? casting choice in there...

...wait, what? No Billy Dee Williams? WTF?!?

Mixing in alternate footage and alternate dialogue in the lead up to Mos Eisley right now (The Cantina extended-mega-cut next!) and I was wondering if anybody has any links to decent-resolution alternate/unfinished/unused Mos Eisley canyon matte shots?

(Note: This is the original, so anything that differs from this image)

Nice idea, but as you said we need someone for the voiceover.

Dangermouse did a great voice for my Doctor Who edits. Might be worth a PM.

I agree! I thought you somehow nabbed a real BBC announcer for a moment there. ;)

(Beginning to derail Frink's thread a bit but...) Yes he did an amazing job and he gave me 2 or 3 alternate line readings and different dialogue choices for each bit! A couple of times I spliced together multiple takes George Lucas style ;-)

It would be funny if you did a "Sith Lord break" towards the end of this edit, like the "Werewolf break" in 'The Beast Must Die'...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i1faQGGFXE

"Have you guessed who the Sith Lord is yet? Is it Steve Grievous, Dexter Jettster, Palpatine etc etc... you have 30 seconds to give your answer"

It would hinge on somebody here or over on FE.org being willing and able to do a similar spooky Vincent Price-esque voiceover. Probaby placing it just before Anakin himself realises, would be funniest.

On a more inspiring note,....new EU....

Yes, this new book cover has given me a full on nerd boner ;-)

Surely it's impossible to look cooler than Luke does right there ^.

However, that cover does deeply worry me as it's a post ROTJ book. Because JJ hasn't fully written, or even filmed the 3 films that come after this book, then he can kiss his creative freedom goodbye, as anything in that book will be canon and forced into his script/films.

(Oops, my apologies. After some googling it seems it's set after ANH. I should have guessed by the blue saber... slaps own face --> Go new EU LOL)

As I said on another thread its a pity they didn't jettison the CW cartoons also,.....(Darth Maul....back from the dead....with Robo-Legs is canon???)

J

That came straight from the mind of George, so yes.

The general gist was that they are gonna pick and choose which bits they want and which bits they want to ignore. "Maul back from the dead" is still in CW, but they don't ever have to mention him again if they don't want to.

The only even slightly strong reaction I have to this news, is wondering if this is a final 'closed door' on the animated film version of 'Shadows of the Empire' (Voiced by the original actors) that I thought might've been possible now.

45 mins in and just finished recutting and slightly extending the scene in Ben's hut (Again). Added alternate shot, swapped in new establishing shot, reordered dialogue, added extra line and used a final shot of Ben that puts a subtely different spin on his character ;-)

Next I need to do a wipe from that, into the deleted 'Darth Vader Widen's The Search' scene. I'm glad I moved all the imperial footage forward in time, as it's allowed this scene to fit in so much better than it has in my previous attempts at this project. Just the right moment after Tarkin unveils his plan and before Mos Eisley gets locked down.

What Went Wrong/What Can Be Avoided Thread
Time

I was watching the 'Pacific Rim' behind the scenes extras last night. One featurette was on the SFX and I noted that they were created by ILM and shared a few of the same faces as the PT team (Including one of the head guys, I forget his name).

It was a stark contrast to seeing those same faces looking depressed, unengaged and most notably confused during similar Star Wars PT featurettes. But for 'Pacific Rim' Del Toro was leading them, giving them guidance and offering encouragment. When they asked questions, he answered with a simple yes or gave them a clear no followed by a description of exactly how he wanted it to look. He was in control of every facet of the shots, from how he wanted the creatures to move, their movement speeds, the skin textures, the fight coreagraphy, the camera angles/moves, lighting and shooting styles. But in the PT featurettes, time and again you see those same people hurridly mocking up hundreds of possible ideas only for Lucas to casually say something like "I like these three (random ideas)" and offer no reason why. Cue shots of crest fallen and bewildered ILM employees.

I'm not saying 'Pacific Rim' turned out perfect or anything (Though the VisFX turned out damn near perfect IMO) but it was amazing to see the effect a confident and enthusiastic leader can have on motivating a creative team.

(It also made me really want to see what Del Toro would've done with The Hobbit too.)

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

It still surprises me that Shatner is that old. He looks like he's in his sixties, not his eighties.

Yeah, it's funny that, considering all of the Star Trek movies revolve around the central theme of him being too old and the constant jokes about the cast being past it, that he has aged so well.

Here is another rough test from the first act.

Rogue-theX was kind enough to send me some battered old film material and I've used a bit of it here. This also shows one of the ways in which I've reordered things (Probably back to the way they were shot) and how I've used some of the alternate footage. Replacement music for this sequence is something I'm still experimenting with, so consider it temporary (It's hard to find the right piece for Vader's entrance).
