Random Thoughts

Sigh, the news on Gaza is depressing right now.

Last night on Channel 4 News, presenter Jon Snow was close to tears after the horrors he's witnessed in the last week and then during his live report Paul Mason looked physically angry and again close to tears. Then this morning, Al Jazeera had a UN official crying during an interview and again another UN worker was crying during a live interview on Radio 4.

When seasoned reporters and UN crisis workers are emotionally shellshocked, the slaughter of the Palestinian civilians must be truly horrific.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

skyjedi2005 said:I am hoping Hamill is just saying that to be kind otherwise i will see VII and not the other 2 films. It seams like a way to trick original fans into thinking the movies will star the original cast in new adventures only to pull the rug out from under them.

The roles for the big 3 but especially for Hamill and Ford better be substantial not walk on cameos like Nimoy Spock.

Concentrating on the OT cast can lead only to failure, because then the ST could never be better than or even equal to the OT. I'm looking forward to seeing a new bunch of faces who might be even better than the OT crew. It's unlikely but it is a possibility. So I'd rather go with the slim chance of the ST being superior, than with the certainty of it being inferior.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition coming to Blu-Ray

Apparently Peter Jackson said/joked at Comic Con that he's considering adding a few scenes to the LotR trilogy for the eventual Complete Middle Earth Set. Extended Extended Edition?

He said a similar thing a few years ago, when the first Hobbit was announced. But the new scenes shouldn't be added to the films, but shown as bonus features

He said it on the ROTK commentary 10 years ago. If I recall, he teased finishing/restoring the Aragorn vs Sauron smack down for a future anniversary release.

Will Fox prevent Disney from release OUT?
Time

I'm not sure about that. I could well imagine part of the deal involved not releasing the OUT. Lucas is fanatical about this, he's spent a lot of time and energy trying to erase the original versions.

I guess it depends how much he still cares. Hopefully he has just let go.

Disney paid 4 billion to Lucas, so I am 99.9% sure they can do whatever they want with the franchise at this point.

They could have paid Lucas 4 Trillion dollars, but if he doesn't own the rights the ball is still in Fox's court.

^^ Lovin' the upwards angle in the 4th shot and the lights in the last one look fantastic. Not only is model itself great but I dig the light up display base.

Is it kit-bashed from another SD model or is 100% scratch-built? Did you use fibre-optics? and is that regular SD to scale?

The Star Wars: The Lost Workprint (* unfinished project - lots of info *)
Time

Two months later, I'm back on the case (Other fanedits have kept me busy). Couple more test clips...

Here is the medal-ceremony/finale with Tchaikovsky's '1812 Overture' synched up. I had to make one trim to the music to make it fit both ends of the scene, I think it's invisible, if I do say so myself (Hopefully?). I think the 1812 works very nicely...

https://vimeo.com/101853544

(Password: fanedit.org)

- Soundmix and film damage FX, are as always unfinished

The bit I enjoy most about this project, is spotting where two scenes have been cut in half in the finished film and then putting them back together, like they probably would have been in the workprint. There are a few scenes like that that I've just edited and here is one of them involving Vader and Tarkin...

https://vimeo.com/101921704

(Password: fanedit.org)

- Two scenes joined back together (Falcon scenes moved to earlier in the edit)
- Almost every shot in the meeting has been changed in some way
- Soundmix unfinished and score yet to be replaced
- Visual edit complete but film damage filters still to apply
- 2 errors in the original footage fixed with minor FX tweaks (See if you can spot them, or the lack there of )
- Added wipe out of the scene to indicate the passing of a small ammount of time

(It looks simple enough but that ^ 1 minute took me hours to edit)

Uh, sorry but what a d*ck. He basically spent the whole first half of the video telling us why he presumably hates JRR Tolkien, while revealing his utter lack of knowledge about the past, farming and construction etc. If you're that dumb don't go on the internet and show everybody while being unrelentingly sarcastic and mean spirited. It just made me angry, there was not a single valid criticism in the whole video. Made me really appreciate the work CinemaSins puts in all the more.

Oh god that was only part 1 of 4 :-(

ST9: Insurrection

This low-key movie suffered from following the full-on action/horror of ST8 back in the day (My own opinion of it was luke warm originally). Frakes went the opposit way and made a film all about character and emotion (With hilarious comedy moments). When I watch this again now, it stands up with the best of the Kirk&Co films, also being strongly about family. Perhaps in it's small way it's the best NG movie.

Casino

As close to a sequel as a film can get without being one. Easily as good as 'Goodfellas' for me and perhaps a shade better.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

Far better than the first. It's funnier, more creative, crazier, chock full of pop-culture gags and ends with that crowd pleasing concert.

Gremlins II: The New Batch

After all the horror thrills of the first movie have faded it's the wicked corporate/media satire of the sequel, that has stood the test of time.

Army Of Darkness

I know this has many fans but for me it's so massively superior to the first two in every respect, that it feels underrated.

The Karate Kid, Part II

Far more heartfelt and emotional than the first, looking back on Mr Miyagi's sad past. The Tea ceremony scene is simply beautiful.

Short Circuit 2

I probably go on about this one but wow it's a near perfect romantic comedy for me. Joy on celluloid.

Hot Shots! Part Deux

Ludicrously silly with the jokes flying in all directions after they wore out most of the Top Gun gags in the first one but so good.

Er, think that's about all I can think of.

That's what I mean by torches. We must agree with you or it must be "trolling." But yes, I do get that distinct feeling you get when you wandered into the wrong bar. Should have known better.

I've never hung about on TFN, because from what I hear...

...where banning and locking of threads is the norm if you don't tow the party line. Not here, you just get disagreed with and/or ribbed, if you can't handle that then don't offer your opinion dude.

New Mark Hamill interview: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-28475959

Guess he's going to have that Alec Guinness look for the film. :)

Lizo did well to keep from geeking-out right there, I like that guy. Wow, wow, wow Mark's words were music to me ears "It's really about the new generation of characters... we're just there to lend our support". So hopefully EpVII will just be a little baton pass to a whole new cast of young heroes!

Rank The Muppet Films!
Time

1. Muppet Christmas Carol

2. Muppet Treasure Island

They aren't just 2 of the best Muppets films, they're 2 of the best Musicals, 2 of the best comedies, 2 of the best kids films and 2 of the best best adaptations of the source novels ever. Perfect in every way, I don't really care where the other films come in a list, as long as those two are at the top.

The key to making great madcap comedy, much like the Marx Brothers before them. The Muppets are at their best when they have something respectable to totally disrespect. For the Marx Brothers it was the Opera Il Travatore, for the Muppets it was two literary classics.

It's not the word "Padawan" so much, it's more that I was allowing myself the nieve dream that Disney-Star Wars was going to be a PT free universe.

That dream should have been shattered once you saw the Inquisitor. It was for me. Unless you've never seen ROTS. =P

You know, I'm just now noticing those guys in the far back. Could that be a hint that the Royal Guards are actually supposed to be Pau'ans?

Oh---From the few flash cuts to that character in the trailer, I hadn't noticed he was one of those guys. Now you've really depressed me dude :-(

Not that I disliked that alien in the grand scheme, as at least he wasn't CGI and was played by The Gyro Captain.
