4K restoration on Star Wars

I would actually hate for Disney to "Special Edition" the prequels as what's good for the goose is what's good for the gander - we can't have it both ways and demand theatrical editions of one series and amend another.

Nobody here thinks that (As far as I'm aware).

We want SE and original cuts of both trilogies. At the moment we've got pretty much none of both. As long as the original PT is still available, then nobody is gonna have a problem with Disney creating a bonus alternate PT. It's if Disney decided to try and eradicate the PT from the face existance and try to make it impossible for anybody to watch it that people here would object.

Unless I'm mistaken?

the second half of the article dives straight into fantasy with the notion that the prequels could be deemed Legends and scrapped. As much as I personally would love that, there's not a snowballs chance in hades of it ever happening.

What you are forgetting is that Disney bought this property to suck every last penny out of it. The PT will be remade/rebooted (and in all likelyhood so will the OT) It's just a question of when really (I'm not saying the when will be anytime soon though).

After the ST makes more money than god they only have two ways to go for another trilogy. Forwards or backwards? Episode X, or Episode I? In the new Disney era anything can and will happen. In the Lucas era he did/didn't do things for his own satisfaction, now there is only money dictating the choices.

Doctor Who
Time

To stave off the pre-new-Who buildup excitement, this weekend I shall be mostly watching a 'Black Guardian Trilogy' marathon (Got the Boxset out of the trusty local library). 5 whole hours of fun! (Not including the hours of bonus features!). Not watched these stories yet, I hope they are good.

Digital is probably the norm in every film school, and eventually, I think the simple economics will win out :(.

Yes digital is now the norm and the economics have already won out but that's not the point. This initiative is about preserving the option to shoot on film, not fighting back against the digital tide.

I think it is the point. If you're entirely trained on digital, why would you chose to shoot film?

Because they watched a film from the last century.

It's only the last generation of filmmakers who're desperate to preserve it who've taken the interest.... the next generation aren't going to care.

only directors with the box office clout to shoot film are even going to be fighting for it

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Maybe a bit late for this thought but it occured to me today so here it is...

Disney is the only studio that could/can make the ST good.

The reason? They are the only studio that doesn't have to compete with Disney. The DC-movie-verse and Sony-SPiderman-verse have struggled and stumbled to try and copy the magic Marvel/Disney formula, instead of just being their own thing. Disney are the only studio that wouldn't want to copy Marvel as they already own that. What they wanted from Star Wars is a totally different property to diversify their portfolio.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

Here's a fantastic interview with two of the executive producers on Rebels, Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg.

Highly recommend it to anyone who still has reservations about the show.

Rebels character to make cameo in EpisodeVII, well that's the new movie ruined then :-(

All the Lightsaber talk was nice though.

What Went Wrong/What Can Be Avoided Thread

I hate how the prequels made fans think that Star Wars = Jedi vs. Sith.

SW: Jedi trains Jedi to defeat Sith. Sith kills Jedi

ESB: Dead Jedi sends Jedi to see other Jedi so he can battle Sith. Sith spends movie hunting Jedi and has phone call with other Sith

ROTJ: Jedi battles Sith and Sith. Sith dies, Sith becomes Jedi and Jedi waves goodbye to dead Jedi, Jedi and Jedi (And his sister was a Jedi)

Yes it was all the PT ;-)

(Only joking, I know what you mean... more blaster wielding space pirates!)

Random Thoughts
Time

Are Bingowings and DrCrowTStarwars using this thread to do an elaborate two-hander performance art piece in which they have each have adopted the same intractable views as the two sides in the conflict?

If it is, then it's a beautifuly constructed satire. If it's not, then it's somehow even more depressing than the news and I wish it would stop.

I'm sorry I posted a comment about this controversial subject in 'random thoughts' and started all this. Please take this debate to one of the other "toxic" threads like 'politics' or 'Controversial subjects'.

Then this can go back to being about random stuff... oooh kitten!

Back to the Future Part 2 tends to get bitched about for being dark and confusing when if anything it could do with being more convoluted and the usually loved part 3 is a bit of a let down from my perspective.

What bizarro universe are you from? I have come across very few who liked Part 3 let alone loved it.

I love it. How could you not love the charming way The Doc and Clara's romance plays out. Surely there's nothing more romantic than rescuing your beloved from an exploding time-train using a pink hoverboard from an alternate dimension?

Just realised! The Doctor and Clara oooooh timey wimey.
